- A devastating incident unfolded in Kuala Lumpur last Friday when a massive sinkhole near Jalan Masjid India swallowed a 48-year-old tourist, Vijayaletchumy from India.
The sinkhole, reaching a depth of eight meters, appeared suddenly and without warning, leaving rescue teams racing against the clock to find the victim.
Let's take a look at what causes sinkholes and find out whether Kuala Lumpur's urban safety is at risk.
Anyone who has lived in KL, or even visited could have told you the lack of maintenance is a concern. For decades.
And it wasn't without warnings, the nearby seats and street decor of the 1st sinkhole were already sinking for quite a while.
Come on, as if no one told us that Kuala Lumpur means "Muddy Ditch" so certain measures had to be taken for the space to be liveable.
Add to the fact the corruption and nepotism of the old administration for their buddies in "construction companies" and you got a recipe for disaster.
Agreed, Kuala Lumpur is a third world city.
100% boss
Every time after a contractor digging and repaving a road, will the DBKL go & check properly? And there are so many ongoing developments in KL & Selangor, is there adequate study before approval given?
this is nothing but a knee jerk reaction for poor maintenance and mapping of underground facilities so far....
Yap Ah Loy warned us years ago when he named this place "Kuala Lumpur"
Dah nampak lubang je.. Dah urgent urban safety concerns pula.. Direct tender buat duit tutup lubang dengan pasir.. 😂😂😂
A certain PH minister said we should take example on how China build things. We took that Tofu Dreg construction method seriously.
Congrats Madani.
Good part about tofu dreg construction is it that disaster won't happen so soon. It will happen decades later when everyone already pocket money and left.
Dunno y u blame madani when all these construction and planning happened wayyyyy before it. U paid comment kah????
build more high rise building in city centre, dont leave a single inch of empty lot, every square metre of land be it swamp area, landfill, graveyard must be utilize to build more apartment condo shopping mall..... its all money.....more money, build more and higher is better can make more money for the pigeon hole size home to sell at lucrative price
Sign of lack of preventive maintenance and low level professionalism. Stop blaming heaven or geology. Cement is made from limestone. Do normal buildings melt from rain? Also, she fell into the drain. Was there no pipe or cement roof? If yes, why did she fall through? It's not safe anymore to visit if they still don't take accountability
Hopefully our local authority can take swift action to save our beautiful KL land and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.❤
Truth be told, these are the effect of using substandard contractors who stinge on the rebar. From using super thin ones and the gap size is just too wide. Not even going to go into discussion of the concrete being laid is from the factory or just mixed by the worker at site.
Could this be due to lack sewage maintenance? Of course investigation is ongoing
Ramai sgt pati....
"The city is definitely safe" Mayor tried to save face and not to cause public distress
I do it my way whether the way it is constructed, how it is maintained, how it is reported and all the hows because nobody cares
Where's the Indian womon? how could such a big person not be found? It was incredible. After a week of searching, she was still not found and people began to worry that mayb might never find her again. It was a truly regrettable event.
Are you crazy ...... Is this safe? It doesn't show its maintenance working process.
If there is Nothing to Hide , Persuade Agong to do RCI & make Report Public… Agong’s Failure cannot be Our Failure 🙏
The next place that the authorites need to look at is Pavillion Damansara. The roads are narrow, and the drainage looks under designed with so many buildings around. The urban planning team needs to be responsible.
money talk....every inch square feet of empty land is money, so none left behind, as it will be a lose of money...even if they can build another building on top of another building as long as it bring in money, then why not?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When nature is environmentally friendly, due to human negligence as a result.?
Looks like the whole city of KL will sink. Many areas are "opening up". Hope the high condos & housing area will not be affected.
God bless ❤😂 us
Water be it underground, rain and leakages via water pipes or sewerage pipes or other utilities are the main cause of this sinkhole. It happens overtime and suddenly appears like some cancer cases. Sand or silk will slowly wash away towards the river and this will create a void.
The lady was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She was very unfortunate. I feel really sorry for her and the family.
This problem is not easy to resolve especially in a bustling and compact city like KL. This sinkholes will appear at any moment. It is like a booby traps. Fast and correct action is needed
Agree on the wrong place and the wrong time because they just bring two excavator 🤣 at the sinkhole area ...it clearly is more about the structure underneath the sinkhole have issue. If it was a drainage. It maybe resulting from the drainage structure itself.
Tgu je twin tower tumbang kot baru celik manusia ni
