Today Vicky and I head off to the SantaPod raceway for a spot of drag racing. Unfortunately, it does not all go to plan.

Those jet dragsters are the most unnecessary yet necessary thing ever. Santa Pod is an awesome place to go btw. Would recommend for anyone who's a petrolhead or likes fast things

I absolutely love Santa Pod. I've been there a few times and enjoyed it every time! Nice to see someone go there.
Buddies and I used to go to races all the time. In fact, several of us had cars we ran. Always a blast regardless of what was running, though I understand being disappointed if you're going out with the explicit expectation of seeing a top fuel run. Most tracks don't run those willy nilly though. Just during set heats. Oh, and False is buying nametags at 5 for 16. Expand your bookshop stock, Mr Fisherman. ;)
One of the only events I didn't get to do this year that I wanted to due to work... Damn... Top Fuel is insane when it runs, you get car alarms going mad all around but they cut their engines like that if they have the slightest doubt that something will go wrong. Try looking into the Summer National's next year, weekend of camping, top fuel and burning rubber!

My dad used to have a drag car. It was super loud. We never took it drag racing, though. It was just a project car.

So Mumbo, from the vlogs you have done it looks like you really like drag racing. I can totally see why and I really want to go see some drag racing some day. Ever tried any other motorsport. If I remember rightly you live in greater London, so maybe you might want to check out some short oval racing at Wimbledon while you still can. There are meetings every sunday up to December 11th starting at 17:30 and on Boxing day and New Years starting at 14:00. The track is at risk of being closed so you might want to go now before you have to go further to see oval racing. If you want any more info I'll be glad to provide.

I think that a big part of it is doing something no one else does. (Of course I haven't made a big youtube channel, so this is just speculation based off the successful channels, and what I've seen them do.)
Stuff like minecraft is really popular, but you have to compete with so many people that are already popular, and known for minecraft. So with something like that you have to be very personable, or do something no one else does. If you can make amazing redstone, or incredibly beautiful builds you'll get more views, but its still a challenge with so many people doing things about Minecraft.
A better alternative is to do something that is popluar, but doesn't have much in the way of content for it. If you can find a game you enjoy, and that would make for good commentary that would be a great way to draw in viewers. Its always easier to get customers when you have a monopoly.
Of course these are just the observations of someone who watches, and hasn't made a channel, but they're what seem to have worked for the big youtubers. Be unique and interesting, find something that is also interesting, and then make good videos about it. There is of course a lot of luck, but being interesting, and unique can't hurt your chances.
