- Sugar Foot the dog had a lucky escape after a hawk swooped toward her in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia.
Her owner, Natalaya Hines, watched as the bird approached the dog before swooping upward. Sugar Foot continued to run, happily oblivious to the danger.
Hines was recording Sugar Foot in slow motion when the incident happened. She told Storyful that she was "trying to catch priceless moments" of her 17-month-old pup.

They sound like crows. They are known to warn other animals and people of danger nearby. Very intuitive and intelligent animals.

@firstthings_first9828 Used to hate crows and their obnoxious caw.Then I raised 5 Blackrock hens.Lost 2 to a raccoon and a hawk.Crows are a chicken's best friend actually.They warn the remaining chickens to take cover now.
Hawk retreated when got close and noticed the dog was to big pick up.. Also the crow's are talking to each other they have there own language and tell the other's when there's danger around crow's are smart....

Had the same type of scenario happen yesterday walking my puppy. Swooped down twice and pup on leash picked up pup and ran home.
OMG SAME THE SAME EXACT THING HAPEEND TO ME TODAY I HAVE A 8 month old frenchie and today a vulture swoop down twice and tries to get it it was coming real close so I booked it and ran home with my olive (olvie is the name of my dog)

Had that been my dog I would’ve thrown my phone at the bird and ran jumping over my dog to cover it then picking it up and my phone leaving,
There’s no reason to ever stand there filming while you or your pet is in danger

My yorkie almost got taken by a hawk, my mom and her were playing outside, then a hawk was about to take her, so then my mom came running to save her he saw her running to save her so he flew away

She snarfed at me 😡 & here came the Hawk🐕🦅 swooshing in.
Lucky she had the leash on him (but wasn't holdin it).... I ran & had to dive to get that leash.
When I did that, the bird got scared & let him go. "So so Lucky".... Thank God it was just minor injuries.

Hawk knows his limits
No way could that hawk have picked up that dog and carried it away. When it closed in it realized the dog was too large to tackle and veered off. Would have been interesting to see the result if it had tried though.
It was a young red tailed hawk based on the colors it was probably just inexperienced. Even adult hawks could only take the smallest dogs like chihuahuas
Maybe not pick up, but it could definitely destroy it. I just saw a video of a golden eagle demolishing a wolf.
@@Free_Snooki golden eagles are absolute units. A red tailed hawk has tiny feet in relation to its size going on raptor standards. They aren't made to kill large prey. A golden eagle has massive feet and talons well suited for larger prey. Even a yorkie worth it's skin would destroy a hawk if it tried to grab it.

Never had a problem, they come around for wild birds and animals but between my huge rooster and Guinea fowls they were pretty safe. The rooster was an araucuna and not supposed to be so big, the hens weren't very big, but he grew larger than my Jersey Giants. He got along with the Guinea, they would sound the alarm and he'd come running.
This happened to family puggle in nyc. was never so grateful for his overeating tushie in my life!

Yesterday I was walking my chihuahua in her favourite open field.
I looked up to notice a huge hawk circling us.
I grabbed my dog & he kept circling and flew away.
I put her back down & he was at it again.
I yelled to no avail and carried her again.
It sucks so much bc she lives for running in that open field.
Just had one hit my back door netting as it tried to take my puppy! This was in germany and happened less than an hour ago, it was a buzzard. Never in my life would have thought one would attempt this but it did, it then laid on its back after hitting the netting and stared at me before flying away. Poxy thing, last time Leonard goes outside alone that is for sure.

i've had hawks go after my dog . my dog looks like a rabbit when she runs shes 8 lbs but shes very light to pick up . their favorite prey are jack rabbits. shocked they went after a black dog. that could also be why. they crows are very territorial and will call 50 billion of them for 1 hawk. i have it on video.
That is not a Hawk, that is an osprey and they eat Only fish. Maybe a nest was close by.
You are correct, it is an osprey. Ospreys primarily eats fish, but have been known to eat small mammals and even birds. The dog may not have been small enough.

A 1.5kg red tailed hawk could never carry anything above its own weight let alone a mid sized dog. They are built differently than large eagles which can carry prey equal to their weight and heavier.

Also my dog is still really really small for her bread but her weight is fine she’s only 8 months one
@@tylanguevara4440 If you live in the US, the only vulture that fits that description would be the turkey vulture. You have no need to be worried. They don't hunt and only consume carrion. Their talons are weak and unable to grasp anything. I'm not sure why it swooped your dog, but do be wary of other potential predators.
Eagles have the same constraints. From a dead stop, an eagle can carry about half its weight. A big female Golden Eagle is about fourteen pounds. On UA-cam, a rehabber took a video of a golden eagle with a big crop. The eagle couldn't fly out of the brush it was running around in. The rehabber kept the bird overnight and released in the morning.
If that hawk really wanted your dog it would already have it (but not fly away with the dog). It looked like it was trying to scare the dog away because it's too close to its territory/nest

Yes. An abandoned eagle nest in a park nearby had several pet collars in it with some cat / dog remains.

It's not just that I live in a area where there are alot of stores and restaurants my 12 lb dog is a service dog and I don't drive and she rides in my power chair with me to n from places and vultures have been killing animals and small dogs left n right in my area had to resort to a dog carrier for her to n from places

There is absolutely no way that hawk could have picked up that dog. I don't believe it was even trying to. It looks like it was swooping down, as a threat to get it away. Please do not set the tone for others to think all hawks can carry away a dog. Our neighborhood is in an uproar over one tiny red shouldered hawk...thinking it is going to attack their pet. The hawk is in an area where there is plenty of natural food and is in no way in danger of starving. Only then would a hawk MAYBE attack a small dog but highly doubtful. Most hawks do not want to risk being injured for a meal. I feed the red shouldered hawk rats that are 6 oz THAT IS A BIG RAT and it can barely fly away.

IMHO - That means the Hawk population is doing great - maybe doing too great because hawks are territorial; consequently the hawks that are in big populated cities are there by choice or got push out of the wide open country by other hawks! Hawks are welcome to diet on the rats and only if they stay away from pets! That is my humble opinion.
