- The Vancouver Police Department is rolling out its body camera pilot project.
Global News is getting an early look at the body cameras some Vancouver police officers will be wearing.
Const. Katie Ranger is among 84 patrol members wearing them in the coming days following training sessions.
That will rise to 100 officers in the weeks ahead.
As Catherine Urquhart explains, their implementation has been years in the making and follows recommendations from a high profile inquest.

All public servants and politicians should have to wear these all the time.
Especially Justin , we need to know what he does every day...
Protect yourself by recording police that won’t be redacted or turned off when it matters most.
All these corrupt cops should have them
I think it's okay to turn them off, but if an officer "forgets" to turn it on during an interaction, then any charges stemming from that Interaction would be dismissed..

@@fabienneisore7831 at the beginning it says they can be turned off... But if they don't turn them off then they shouldn't be allowed to claim you resisted arrest cause they say so.. Turn them on and get your collars
Nice and all, but these Cameras shouldn't be able to be shut off, if anything the camera should be live streamed to the station where the officer is from.
You'd be cool with your boss having a camera on you your entire work day?

@@winstonsmith4108 this gives them even more power. Watch some cam footage from the states. They blast someone dead and are cleared instantly due to the cam. Their footage is always taken over citizen footage too :)

Possibly a storage limitation. If you want a good quality video it'll be pretty sizable. Fine for recording various interactions, but not a whole 8+ hour shift

Body cams should be a STANDARD piece of police equipment and all uniformed on duty officers should be LEGALLY required to wear them.

They should not be able to turn them off . Luckily you can film them all day every day in the course of they’re duties .
Who makes these decisions? Is there a table of stupid people? Why would you want cameras only on when the police officer thinks it should be on how about on when you get to a scene and on when you pull somebody over or if the officer doesn’t want to turn it on, then don’t answer, any questions that’s my thought on it. Wake up Vancouver, what a joke

Every constable needs one. They need to be on 24-7 365. Waiting for the snowflakes to scream abuse of rights. Its the world we live in. Sad.

@fabienneisore7831 courts always look at police evidence more credible than civilians. It's a fact, and that's where abuse comes in
