Dynasty Warriors 5:XL - Battle of Mt. Qi | Jiang Wei

This battle...kinda sucks. You immediately have to do some luring, which is always so fun when you have to stick right next to the enemy general, and then do it for your allies that can't seem to do it right on their own. Then after your entire army retreats you get some conflicting orders. You get a message to "push back" the Wei task force and it warns you when they're approaching the southern encampment, as if you need to keep them away. But if you try to fight them to keep them away, you get spotted, the plan fails, and then Zhuge Liang orders you to solo the Wei army and doesn't bring back reinforcements. Also the enemy officers go into hyper mode, all of them.
And if the plan does succeed, you don't even get that much of an advantage as your allies can still get killed fairly easily. So it'd have ended up about the same if your army just charged instead and you racked up kills to boost morale.

Man I loved failing the strategy on purpose then screamed "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" while I cleaned the whole army myself. Such good times

Fun fact: This is the battle where Zhang He was killed by an arrow in the knee.
In this stage, after succeeding Zhuge Liang’s strategy, if you allowed Zhang He to seize the summit and then defeated him, he will give out a special quote implying that he died.

My only memory of this battle was failing to execute the plan everytime and having to clear out the map alone which made me feel sad as a kid.

This map leaves a very deep impression due to the fact it's so hard to avoid the Task Force. I only managed to properly clear it once! And the old battle movements are so good. No fanciful gimmick, just purely hack n slash!

If the strategy fails it would be more difficult (especially enemy officers goes hyper)

I actually managed to successfully execute the plan in more than two playthroughs. It's hard, but pretty fun.
Btw, try to play as Liu Bei and fail the plan. xD

Xaldin007 it’s very easy to complete. At the bottom left corner of the map, there’s a tent that you have to stand next to. Just stay there and don’t attack anyone. They aren’t gonna notice you. Sit there and wait for the army to come back.

This battle actually returned in DW7 Xtreme Legends, used for Wei Yan’s hero scenario. But it didn’t involve any withdrawing strategy.
