Origin in the top-left is an extremely common convention dating back to the earliest OS and CRT monitors. This most likely comes from the indexing of math matrices which starts top-left. I suspect Apple later moved the origin to the bottom-left to match how people prefer to think about coordinates, but older APIs do not have wrappers using the new coordinate system yet.
The new feature seems like something I could like very much! I mean most of the time I have mostly 2 windows anyways on one monitor so making it more easy and satisfying to snap the windows onto eachother looks to me like a cool addition. I really like your projects, thank you for the frequent uploads!☺
i'm 25 and i'm working on shifting careers to software engineering. so many doubts and about-to-give-ups along the way but your videos keep me motivated to keep pushing through. thank you so much & keep it up, i'm rooting for you!
You can do it, I shifted careers from construction when I was 25 to Software Engineering, now I’m 27 and I just received an offer for my second role last week. You can do it!
Hi man, greetings from Czech Republic --- 35 yo ex-energy consultant. Just be humble and openminded. You can do it. Mac users: build custom window manager Windows OS Users be like: just drag and drop bro I much appreciate marko's effort in side projects, very inspiring.
Hey Marko, How many months ago, I stumbled upon one of your videos and another one, and another one... I feel comfortable watching and started learning how to create iOS and macOS apps because of you! and I applied to be an intern to become a ios developer and got accepted. 3 months later,I am not an intern anymore, I am now a full time iOS Developer :)) Thank you 1!
Amazing work Marko! I have a suggestion for the window manager’s behavior on vertical monitors; Now the window manager snaps to either the bottom half or the top half but it’s not possible to snap to 1/3 of the screen like in rectangle. I think more people would like this feature 😊. Ps keep up the great videos and love from 🇳🇱
Just a side note: how good Marko speaks? He has a very good command of the english language and his thought process is also deep. Not boring at all to hear him.
Hi Marko, I just wanted to express my gratitude to you. Your video has been a great source of motivation for me. I recently graduated from college and am currently job hunting, and watching your video has been a source of encouragement. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi, Marko! It’s a pleasure for us to watching your videos and you make a great content! You should make a video where you will talk about technologies. Topics like what programming languages you are using, what programming languages you recommend for people for front-end in back-end. Some things like these. I think a video about these topics will help a lot of people! You’re a great guy! Keep going! ❤
make sure you always have that accent, because that's how we know you are @withmarko! loved the window manager idea (although i don't use mac) and seeing you in honeypot.
The new feature seems like a real game changer for me. I was really okay with the "default" window management of macOS (well actually I was just not super convinced of any after market solution) but now I will definitely check your window manager out in my setup. Thanks for the software and the vlogs :)
I just saw your video in my recommendations, and I must say, I'm truly inspired as an aspiring web developer. Your content has been incredibly motivating, and I'm excited to learn more from your videos
I love it! Thanks for share this essence on the video bro just amazing and by essence I mean the feeling and by the feeling I mean the emotions that this video make me feel. Love it.
The app that is needed the most !! Yesterday bought my first mac and needed this type of customization ! really looking forward!will be the first to get this implemented👌
I love these videos. They're always so relaxing and genuinely give me something to aspire for. I hope to one day spend my time just sitting in a coffee shop programming. Thanks for the great content, Marko! Much love
Thank you for sharing this with us. I feel better everytime I watch your videos. Could you please share you're daily schedule. Would like to know what times you work or do leisure activities.
It would be HUGE if you could resize windows together when they share a border (like what it happens with IpadOS or even the built in fullscreen split view in mac OS), both vertically and horizontally. That being said, great job!
Nice, I use Rectangle and one thing annoying which you might consider implementing is that you can put your windows∂ underneath the dock. I hide my dock for this reason, if I could have the dock work in front of my apps without an ugly space either side that would be pretty cool. Excited to see when it's released
Coordinates buttom to top (ltr) are familiar to mathematicians. From top to buttom (ltr) is the direction that the text flows - makes sense for app devs and designers. Probably 2 different teams made 2 different but reasonable decisions...
It's interesting, Apple works so hard to make their apps "intuitive" that they forgot about convention. Experienced UI web or app devs had to work hard to unlearn the academic coordinate system and visualize in the "top-left=0,0" convention. It's the same in Android Studio, Qt, Flutter, Xamarin, all of the industry leaders. Changing the coordinate system to behave in Apple's own unique manner for "certain" parts of development but not others is like changing arrays to be 1-indexed rather than 0-indexed. kinda silly lol, kudos for working through that
I love how you just proved what I've been telling to every Apple fanatic for a long time: the window management and coordinate system is absolute garbage.
Hey, you got it! 😃 Thank you for the comment! What kind of gaming content would you like: I personally quite like watching Hollow, would you like to watch videos in that style? 😃
When I saw your coffee near your laptop, I remember my Macbook. Lesson learned for me. My M1 Macbook got damaged because I spilled liquid on the keypad. I also don’t have Apple Care so yeah, I’m waiting for the total cost of repair lol.
Oh no! I'm so sorry for your laptop! I damaged my old one by trying to clean the screen, and there was a bit too much cleaning fluid and the display was permanently damaged, so I feel your pain!
@@withmarko oh I didn’t know about that. So no fluid for cleaning the display. The Apple store just called me 2 days ago and my repair is around $2.4K in CAD.
For the raycasting edge case, I thought of maybe doing a flood fill algorithm to find windows, and then calculating the space. But now that I put that in writing, it seems slow.
Hey, you have a misspelled "crips" word in the Waves Wallpaper description c: And these wallpapers are awesome Also i wish that someday you will add a custom keyboard shortcut feature for your OneMenu app
hello! massive thx for the app, using it, love it :) the other day i thought it might be a good idea to let user decide proportion which screen is being divided. for example, default value is 50/50, but sometimes i want, say, 30/70... etc.. i hope i write it the right way so at least someone could understand my idea))
Was a Mac User for a few years (never enjoyed it...) and I will say Dell's technology has not slipped up XPS i7 9315 is faster then probably the latest Mac M1/2 chips lol.
What if just make a hotkey, that will make current window width = available_screen_width - previous_active_window? And make previous window at 0,0 coordinates, and current window previous_active_window, 0 ?
Honestly, Apple has really useful APIs and great documentation on some of their software and then there is stuff like the coordinate system that make me question Apple Engineers` intellect... I spent weeks trying to debug a layout problem when I tried to use ARKit and Computer vision stuff...
Great content as usual. If I may ask, what's the tech-stack you used to build your One Menu app? I have been using it for quite sometime time and I'm really enjoying it.
Damn, yet again a banger video from you, love what you are doing with the OneMenu! A small detail that kinda annoyes me sometimes, is that i can't snap the window onto one side of the screen by simply dragging it to the edge of the screen like on windows 🤔 Combined with the feature you are working on in this video and I would gladly pay it😂
Hi, Marko. I had some case with your window manager. What if I I want so put a window in the center of the screen, but I don't wont to maximize it? Looks like it's impossible now. But anyway, thanks for this manager.
Hi Marko , can you make a video about IOS Developer how hard it is for the new IosDeveloopers xd , you have big experience and for me its good to hear from you a good advice about Swift , have a good day :)
What is the software that you're drawing all the shapes on? :) It's quite nice. Also, are you doing the sketches with just a mouse? No digital tablets/using an iPad?

The biggest feature I miss from windows as a new mac user is being able to extend the divider between a split screen and have both apps resize!
