In North America, only the horned lark occurs, while Australia is home to Horsfield’s bush lark. Larks inhabit various habitats, often favoring dry regions. When the term ‘lark’ is used without specificity, it typically refers to the Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis).
Similar to many ground-dwelling birds, most lark species possess elongated hind claws, providing stability when standing.
