I absolutely love this! The one thing I would add is one or two scenes in the beginning where the kids are being reckless (like the sleigh scene in the original) and get hurt. This would tie in with the importance of fear and Pitch's return later in the movie
That's a good idea, maybe you could add spirits too. It's implied that there are other spirits who aren't guardians so we just see them in the background from time to time or maybe Jack has a view spirit friends from before being a guardian
That could make a good rivalry between Jack and Pitch, too. Jack encourages kids to take risks by having fun whereas Pitch hates that. Honestly this makes me think that Pitch's pre-guardian self might've been an overprotective parent or something of the sort. They discouraged others from taking risks, others got hurt or died due to ignoring them because they weren't afraid, Pitch dies too as a result, Moon goes "naw that ain't fair and he had a point here wake the hell up Guardian you've got kids to terrify".
A parent or grandparent runs outside and starts scolding the kids for 'trying to get yourselves killed?!' and 'nearly gave me a heart attack'. The scolding continues as we see that they left the front door open and there's a table in the front hall/room with a tired Pitch shaking his head in a 'Why do I try?' sort of way as he slips into the shadows, the scolding stops only a few seconds after Pitch leaves.
Fear as a form of inducing safety. What the heck, that idea is SO COOL. I always loved Pitch as the antagonist, because his goal was effectively the same as Jack's, but I always wondered how it would even work cause, you know, he is the boogeyman, fear, yadda yadda. But if he is SAFETY, meant to teach and give people instincts...Holy shit. it's brilliant. I adore this rewrite so much. And that freaking third act with Pitch saving the kids cause he is safety and the kids staying with him....my heart
I love your take on Pitch. Fear is necessary, and honestly I think him adopting Halloween would make sense. I think this version lacks the "finding your core" character arc Jack goes through, but it could be easily included. It's seen as a counter to Pitch's fear in the movie, so focusing on Pitch and Jack's dynamic would naturally bring up the balance between Fun and Fear, like Sadness helping Riley feel again and then turning to being forward Joy.
I love the Halloween ideas as a team up for pitch and jack but there are plot holes like would they create Halloween or what because the O.G movie starts in like 2012 so if they created Halloween the we would have to push it’s back to like 1971 because that was when Halloween was officially created (according to Siri) or would they adopt it if they adopt it then what about the spirit of Halloween does he just become job less or does jack, pitch and the Halloween spirit team up to make it more popular but then jack would be the spirit of snow and Halloween.pitch the spirit of nightmares and Halloween so how would it work
@@lexi1031 my thought would be Pitch adopting the holiday, maybe not as his own in its entirety, but as his "day of play" if you will. Fear is used to protect and keep kids safe, but one night a year he gets to use it to bring joy, maybe even strengthen his believer count. The holiday would still belong to the Spirit of Halloween, but Pitch would simply add to the festivities where he can. Much like Jack helping out North by making it snow on Christmas.
I feel jack's hoodie sorta shows how he's more in tune with the world, like how he'd change his tops to suit the time but is trousers basically stay the same because you know trousers rarely really change anyways. I'd just love to know how he got the hoodie, would have been fun to see like the wind blow away some teens blue hoodie and Jake just being like "Yonk!" And grabbing it for himself. This could maybe happen during spring rather than winter were you can still get a pretty cold wind but it's not super strange that someone may take their hoodie off.
I had an idea for Pitch's backstory. He was a very strict father due to his protectiveness he had of his kids and his wife. This led to his relationship with his two kids getting strained, but he still tried to be gentle with them when disciplining them because he didn't want to scare them. Their conflict led to the kids rebelling by playing with fire in the house late at night when their parents were asleep. They accidentally start a fire which spreads quickly in their most likely wooden house for the time(???). Everyone ends up dying, Pitch last. And when he became a guardian, he made sure he had learned his lesson.
kratos inspiration, the dark dream sand is ash from pitch's nightmare that mix with regular dream sand. sandy can separate the two because the ash doesn't haunt him the way it does for pitch
Ehhh, don't really like the encouragement of scaring kids 'for their safety' I like the overall idea, but I think it'd be better if instead he simply tried to keep kids from being afraid of things like fire by telling them that fire is good actually and leaving out how dangerous it is
@@lightningqueen1145 that doesn't make since with his backstory because his whole is fear anyways and if his kids died than why would he tell them not to be afraid? Telling them not to be afraid of styff like fire would just cause worse consequences anyway.
Rise of the Guardians has got to be one of my favourite movies ever, I am so happy to see that people are still enthusiastic about it! I love the Pitch redemption arc as well. It always rubbed me the wrong way how the personification of fear was basically demonised, because fear is actually a good thing to have! (In healthy amounts of course)
especially cause some of the virtues of each guardian can easily turn bad if in excess! ie holding onto memories more than looking at the present and future and getting stuck in something that is over, excessive fun directly leads to recklessness and forgetting other responsibilities
the books have an interesting history and lore that wasnt really used (much if at all other than as inspiration for the movie) that explains pitch's relationship with manny and how he became the boogeyman.
@@blaizegottman4139 i mean, it’s not like it’ll be official anyway. Rewriting an existing story (even if it’s amazing) is a cool way to explore how characters could go in different directions or try out new ideas (like Alternate Universes or fanfics)
I think just making Pitch more like his book counterpart would’ve made the movie much better. Corrupted father turns monster and maybe they try to save him and restore him. And maybe play into the boogeyman role where he eats kids when they get to the point they actually believe in him, see and feel him, and can be eaten by him. I think he was more of a lovecraftian monster too so it still fits and they can have a part where he can’t bring himself to hurt his daughter but everywhere he goes a part of his mind feels guilty for disturbing her because she’s literally Mother Nature, she’s everywhere.
I'm not going to lie, Jack and pitch's designs are hot. But I really love the idea of pitch representing safety, which is always important. And it kind of makes sense that he does it by scaring the kids because that's the same way parents make sure that their children are safe. They tell them how scary the outcomes of their actions could be.
I'm gonna be honest this the rewrite i didnt know I needed The third act is honestly perfect imo, it wraps up everything in a way the movie couldn't! The open ending is amazing too, it could either be an opening to a sequel or a great way for kids to just add in their own guardian self insert I'm not good with critique but you can tell I really love this video, keep up the good work mushterri :)
Thank you for this comment!!! 😤😤 I’m glad you liked the third act, I wasn’t quite sure of it! And also, I never thought about the ending being good for kids to make ocs, that’s a great observation! I always appreciate long comments, so thank you so so much 🧡
same @ the first part bc i was like "i dont think there's any huge problems with the movie?" But then watching this i was like ahh all this makes a lot sense Edit: i should be clear i don't remember much of this movie anyhow so ofc i didnt have any opinions on it 💀
My characters actually have a saying. "The dark may seem scary at first, but even the dark has kindness and it's own fears". The ying yang represents that you can't have one thing without the other. You can't be good without being bad and you can't be bad without being a bit good.
I absolutely LOVE this rewrite. It'd be cool if there was a part two where you make a sequel movie that shows more of the other characters in the books. I haven't read the books but I'm sure there are more guardians there, Mother Nature perhaps?
@@Elmushterri It was Mother Nature, who was Pitches daughter, Mother Goose was a girl named Kathrine who became Mother Goose. I'm not sure if this is the case but I'm currently reading the books and I'm half way through Book 4 and I think she gets turned into Mother Goose at the end, but I'm not sure. Also I enjoyed this rewrite. I like the fact that there was more to Pitch that just " I'm evil because I'm evil" and that you instead gave him a reason to be a good antagonist, and that he was committed to his goals as an antagonist while still caring for the safety of children sence he is still a guardian. Also the Sandmans spaceship idea is great, and also a great way to refer to the books.
I like thinking Pitch was meant to be the guardian of bravery. Like… His purpose should be the one who helped children overcome their fear by finding their internal bravery. And the name Kozmotis Pitchiner are somewhat also something i connects with a good Pitch, so in my world his name was Kozmotis before he became Pitch. 🖤 But otherwise do i totally agree with this!❤
I love this! I like how Pitch gets redemption arc and all, this was a really nice remake. If I were to remake it myself if I got a chance to I feel like Id make Jack not join the Guardians at all and be more stand alone possibly (even though I do like them joining up and all) and maybe even play villian for a lil', maybe like to defy the man on the moon in a way idk, anyway this isn't a critique as I think your rewrite wrapped up the story pretty well and the designs were pretty cool, I just wanted to share some o my thoughts.
Honestly i love the origins given to the guardians, russian for North, indian for Tooth and aborigen for Bunny. I would love if they make a second movie and a show with more legends from around the world like Krampus as the rival of North. We need to know the backstories of all the legends
Not gonna lie, I love this rewrite and designs. They're much more interesting and the story is something I'd go along with more than the original even if I love it too. I like the idea of Pitch here actually serving an importance and having a reason for existing in the first place unlike the movie counterpart where it's just, "Oogie Boogie- Let me scare again please, it makes me happy.. Where did I come from? I don't know." and the idea of a Pitch being a Guardian just warms my heart up. He's like a father figure and I love it.
The idea of Pitch being a guardian of children via caution/fear is one of my favorites because in a way it also sends the message that too much of one thing can be bad, but you still need that thing in moderation. Too much wonder, too much fun, can be just as bad as too much fear. I love your redesigns as well, though for a second I really thought that Pitch was being given long hair and I was there for it. Still liked his design though, and the explanation that showed itself later with how he changes in the end. This was beautiful, and as much as some would complain about how redesigning a work defeats its purpose or be seen in a negative light, you show that you have an appreciation for the original work and that this really was just a way to express your care for it. As much as Rise of the Guardians was a great animated movie to watch, there was just something about the ending that always troubled me. It wasn't until I was reading a fanfic from another fandom that did an au that it brought to mind how fear is a necessity in life, in proving that something may cause harm or be dangerous. But this was a wonderful adaption of something I truly love. Thank you!
I've always felt that Pitch was a necessary force. We need fear to survive. Like you said if he had been around to give fear then maybe jack and his sister would never have ended up on that thin ice. We even see that the main group of kids do unsafe things like climb on the roof looking for eggs and playing in the street. While the gaurdians definitely are mostly about protecting children, Pitch has a role that protects everyone ( If done properly). Not to forget that the books version of Pitch is actually a soldier who got taken over by fearlings. They could have done a story of saving him from them, or him overcoming them and using them for good. I always wished the ending had been the gaurdians and Pitch learning how to work together to better protect everyone.
This is literally the best thing I have heard for rise of the guardians, I love how Pitch isn’t just a scary baddie, and he ends up saving the kids at the end. 👏 LISTEN 👏 TO ME 👏 PEOPLE 👏 If someone drops everything to save a few kids, that is PEAK best boy material. I would give pitch a thousand hugs if he was like this 🥰
I like how you acknowledge that fear is an important part of our lives and changed Pitch to a genuine guardian who fell from grace with good reason. As much as fear and nightmares terrify us and we may wish to not face them, they are good for us. They help to protect us by recognizing danger or even understanding when we are emotionally or mentally stressed. I could honestly go on a whole psychological philosophy about this, but I think you guys get the point. I myself have been playing with the idea of a boogeyman protagonist in my own fantasy series. While they do still have nightmare powers, I also thought it be nice to give them good dream powers, too. Basically a combo a Pitch and Sandy. I really like the idea as it shows both the good and bad of dreams and how important they are.
Pitch is supposed represent bravery to kids Pitch brings fear to kids (or adults), but they can forget about him by feeling brave, like at the end of the movie Maybe that's why he was chosen Maybe in his youth he scared people for fun, by telling them scary stories or bullying them, but the people would feel the need to stand up for themselves and not be afraid The movie movie never specified The man in the moon only picked good people to be chosen Pitch is supposed to bring people stand up for themselves to stop being scared, to feel stronger about themselves As well as survival for them, to have them second guess when in danger so they don't do anything brash, like fear from inside out So I like how you portray him, it's accurate
This is super interesting! The reason Sandy has sand is because he was a star, and that sand is the remainder of his star after he was shot out of the sky. Pitch was possessed by monsters called Fearlings who lured him in by copying his daughter’s voice, which I’m sad this isn’t mentioned in the movie because it shows that Pitch has a kinder side. (His daughter becomes Mother Nature too so that’s fun.) I do love your idea of Pitch being the guardian of Safety because you’re right, fear isn’t bad, it’s necessary. The fact that this concept isn’t used in the movie is quite sad. Bunny is an alien called a Pooka that is actually a shapeshifting warrior tribe. Bunny is the only one left, and this is why Bunny could talk. That was the only reason he could, or he would have been a normal bunny. They remove such beautiful characters as well. Katherine and Nightlight and Ombric-Father Time-and Mother Nature-originally Emily Jane, eventually Seraphina. (Also MiM isn’t exactly benevolent.) But yes, your idea is BEAUTIFUL! How have I not seen your channel before? It’s gorgeous.
Honestly, guardians was filled with both good character design but also Daddy energy. I don't know a single friend who didn't have a vicious attraction to one of the guys
In love with this concept and your art lmao I also really love little Victorian lad Jack, and just the idea of him using phrases or speech patterns from that era when particularly upset is kinda funny me Fantastic video tho :D
I feel like the one thing that I would pick at is Jack being the guardian of fun - I feel more like he’d be the guardian of bravery, since during the moment where he died, he tried to make his sister be brave by using a game. Also, as in the movie, when people are under the effect of his magic they tend to take a lot more risks and are a lot bolder than usual (like the sleigh scene in the movie). But, I still really love the idea of Fun! This is an amazing video and I absolutely adore your story boarding and character designs
15:47 I saw this frame and I lowkey want Jack and Pitch to have a sort of father-son dynamic. Just fun reckless and slightly selfish child/teen and his over-protective slightly grumpy and morally questionable yet well-meaning dad. It'd fit the parallel of fun and taking risks vs safety and fear like rebellious child vs helicopter parent. Especially if Pitch shows his more caring side when showing Jack his memories, creating a sort of parent-shows-they-still-care-for-the-child-even-when-they-have-opposing-views vibe. It'd bring them closer than with the other guardians as Pitch is sympathising with Jack rather than kinda telling him to suck it up and protect the kids like the other guardians and additionally, it could pack more of an emotional punch during the fight in act 3 where Pitch tells Jack they could've been on the same side. (I also want to imagine North to be like the Jolly and tough, gives the children beer kinda uncle that'd be fun)
A cool idea for a sequel movie with your rewrite would be a Cupid/Valentines day spirit for love. Over the sequel it would be the current guardians figuring out with the Valentine’s Day spirit that love isn’t just romantic and it can be platonic, for animals, for other things such as objects, shows, music. It would be a way to show people how to love too. Like loving people you find strange *COUGH* LGBTQIA+, DISABLED PEOPLE, NEURODIVERGENT PEOPLE, POC *COUGH* and how to accept and love everyone even though it’s only for a day and how Valentine’s Day can affect the rest of the year and can increase love for family, partners, teachers, friends and more. The main conflict would be the current guardians not understanding how love should be one of the guardians and how it can already exist with them. A secondary conflict could be the guardians seeing them in a darker light if they saw a couple fighting like 1-4 days -ish after Valentines put them together (They’re like Cupid in a way). She would be cast out similarly to Pitch and Pitch would be one of the main characters to resolve the conflict with them. They could be different minorities to show how to love them and other people for who they are instead of what they are like they could be a person of color, neurodivergent possibly or even disabled in a way. They could have little dove like helpers similar to Tooth’s humming birds to help make love letters, chocolates and even have a giant rose and flower garden in their guardian lair place.
I love this! Pitch’s design is so cool and I am in LOVE with that scene where he saves the kids and when he explains to Jack what his real job is with fear. I would change just one thing. That scene between when the gaurdians lose their powers and fighting with pitch. It’s just that it feels too forced compared to the movie? Like, if all the guardians were getting weaker, how was Sandy able to regenerate? In the movie, the kids turned all those nightmares into dream sand until there was enough for Sandy to regenerate. So I feel like there has to be a trigger. What I think would happen is that sometimes at the beginning of the movie, something happens that causes Sandy to basically ‘explode’. Like he’s hit with something (either pitch or while he and the others were fooling around) and Jack is horrified and screams because he thinks Sandy just died. But then the dream sand comes together to form him again and Sandy calms a panicking Jack and explains that as long as there is enough dreamsand, he will always reform. When Pitch kills him, he turns the dream sand into nightmare sand, there was no ‘dream’ sand left for Sandy yo regenerate and no Sandy yo make more. Maybe Jack could even ask about that before Bunny angrily tells him that he can’t regenerate if there isn’t any dream sand and nightmare sand doesn’t cut it. So when the guardians lose their powers, they basically give up and Jack is trying yo get them yo keep going but they tell him it’s no use. Bunny might even say it’s over before he loses the ability to speak. And Jack is frustrated and goes off by himself and is just flying aimlessly until he sees the kids with the present and how they turn the nightmare sand into dream sand. Jack walks in and the kids just pass through him but for once, he ignores it and goes to gather the dream sand in his hands and remembers how as long as there are dreams, there is the sand man. So he takes that small piece of sand with a bit of hope in his eyes and rushes out. Then he rides the wind and travels all over the world, looking for any tiny pieces of dream sand under beds, besides gifts and photos, and anywhere he can look. Then he gathers it all together and his silently whispering “please work please work” over and over and it does and Sandy regenerates (and is ready for a fight and might accidentally punch Jack before realizing he’s not pitch and looking apologetically at him) and then gives Jack a look to explain what’s going on so Jack goes into a rushed explanation of what happened. And Jack breaks down feeling horrible because he doesn’t know what to do, and he is still basically only a teenager (since he doesn’t age mentally if he’s frozen in time) and Sandy comforts him. Then he explains that all hope isn’t lost yet. (Sandy is old and wise so he knows what to do). They may have lost the presents but that wasn’t originally what Christmas was about. It was about being with family and the wonder you felt at that time. They don’t need gifts, they need wonder (as it is North’ center) and Sandy explains that Jack is the only one who can do that. Sandy and the other’s can’t because they are too weak. The most Sandy can do at that moment is make a few charade symbols to speak. He can’t even hover. And Jack is wondering if they chose the right guardian but Sandy convinces him that he can do this. So they leave with Sandy basically riding on Jack’s back since he can’t fly himself right now and I think it would look hilarious is Jack was about to leave and Sandy just jumps on him and when Jack terns to look to see what he’s doing, Sandy just gives a look that says “well? Get on with it!” So Jack travels around the world as the sun rises on Christmas Day and covers the whole world in white and makes ice sculptures of each of the guardians, maybe making a few of those living frost rabbits like in the movie, and ice sculpture presents as well as basically just decorating the world in themes of Easter, Christmas and with tooth fairy and sandman decorations. (I am giving Jack this role since there needs to be a reason he was chosen now. And I thought it could be that he wants to help kids and isn’t affected by nonbelievers or that he is the one who wants to give Pitch a chance) then they arrive back to that town with the sleepover kids and as they are flying by, the other guardians see them and are like “I don’t believe it” and the guardians are getting stronger as people are waking up and seeing the decorations. Sandy just waves. He also starts getting strong enough to fly so the guardians (including Bunny) are there to see when the kids wake up in this town and see the decorations. Also, by this point, Jack is dead tired and leaning on his staff for support. (Sandy is now strong enough to fly on his own). Sandy also explains to Bunny what really happened with Pitch and Bunny apologizes to Jack. So the guardians see the kids eyes fill with wonder and start having fun. Then they see the guardians who also join in to greet the kids and Jack smiles sadly at the scene, thinking this is how it should be. But Bunny sees this and says that he wants the kids to meet a friend of his. Jack Frost. He’s right over there (and Jack is frozen in shock) and the kids say they don’t see anything so Bunny says that this is because Jack is a bit of a prankster. So they should close their eyes (he covers a kids eyes with his paws and says to imagine what he looks like and starts describing Jack. He has black hair, blue skin, a bit of a mischievous smirk, outdated clothes (Jack says “Hey!”) he loves pulling pranks, and brings the snow. And then uncovers the kids eyes and asks if he can see him. And suddenly the kid locks eyes with Jack and say yes! Then more and more people start seeing him (and Jack wants to cry but is doing his BEST to hold it in). (I want to add the guardians introducing Jack because Jack has been alone for 300 years so I feel like this should be it’s own special scene) so now Jack is believed in and he is made a a guardian and everything including the fight happens the same as in your story. This is just what I would Change but again, just my opinion and I do LOVE your rewrite.
Santa Claus with the naughty and nice list tattooed on his arms is peak character design and the only thing that can top it is the tooth fairy being a hummingbird. Also Pitch had a backstory in the books he was a soldier for the moon who was in charge of watching over these little shadow things called fearlings and they talked to him every day until he let them out and they took him over.
This is perfect! I always hate how fear is antagonized, it is in fact a necessary and important thing and stops us all from dying of doing stupid crap like jumping out of planes without a parachute or trying to pet dangerous animals, sure some people still do that but if there wasn't fear a lot more people would do so. So in short, fear needs to be used as an antagonist less!
I absolutely loved Rise of the Guardians when it came out (I still do honestly) and I think that this rewrite just elevates the movie and makes it even better. The Pitch redemption arc was so well thought out and I absolutely loved the end!
I always liked the idea of pitch or a boogeyman or whatever being an entity that scares people so they can learn to deal with and overcome fear. Like it would have been really cool if that part in the movie where the kids stand up to him if he'd been like "oh hey cool. No, seriously good on you kids GG." lol Also the point that spooky stuff is fun. Halloween is fun in principal because it's kind of scary... well if you do it right anyway. Seeing your neighborhood at night, going places you don't usually go. It's dark, and that makes everything feel bigger than it really is. I think it's also worth mentioning that whimsical stuff is more fun if you add just a pinch of fear. That extra touch of uncertainty takes it just a little farther from the waking world. Also I really like your rewrite and the way you took it, antagonists being evil for the sake of it can be fun but it didn't feel like like fit the original movie. Tl:dr scary stuff is fun and I like your rewrite and narration. 10/10 really good work!
Coincidentally, I just finished watching the movie, went upstairs and put on UA-cam. I saw this on my recommended and watched this. PLEASE FULLY ANIMATE THIS ITS AMAZING
I love how you rewrote pitch, I've dedicated a ridiculous amount of headspace trying to figure out how pitch could've been depicted better. The guardian of safety works really well!!!
this is so funny since I was just thinking about Pitch the other day and how weird the plot holes were 😆 I totally agree with you, I think that Pitch's center wasn't to strike fear into children, but to act as a figure for redemption or safety. Because historically, the only time the 'Boogie Man' gets brought up is when a child is being naughty. Pitch is used as a warning for kids to be good (In the same vein with the tv show 'Lucifer'). I think Pitch was chosen to be the Guardian of Protection. Thank you for rewriting this, it's just what I needed
Tbh I was skeptical at first and whilst I do think there might be some pacing issues (especially with all of the scenes which I expect would be montages of the guardians just working like the tooth collecting and xmas prep twice) I really like this concept Pitch. He’s so much more interesting and relevant and it makes the rest of the guardians relationship with him so much more interesting too
I'm really glad you made Pitch sympathetic, I always felt a bit bad for him growing up lol. I really like this rewrite the ending is way more satisfying imo, and the redesigns are super cool, also I'm glad you gave Sandy more development (just bc he's my favourite lol)
I think the reason it feels kinda clunky is because if Jack is the main character, it would feel more natural to end the movie after he gets his ice palace.
a really great rewrite! i love that people can just take stuff they love and basically do anything they want with it, most of the time really great stuff is created that way. obsessed with the layton ost btw
Thank you! And yess, you might be able to tell from the channel, my favourite thing to do is rewrite stories 😤😤. Also, glad someone noticed the Layton!! It’s actually from the game Layton Vs Wright (from Ace Attorney, it was such a terrific crossover).
10/10 love this and your other rewrite videos!!! This one, the PPG one, and the MLP one are my favorites! I think my only critique would be throwing in more examples of Pitch being redeemable throughout to balance the bad he does, for instance maybe instances where children that are fearful during some points in the movie end up staying safe, the guardians being reckless and Jack noticing/Pitch pointing that out, Pitch feeling genuine remorse for what he did to Tooth/Sandman and what will happen once no one believes in the guardians anymore, etc. It would make his redemption more cohesive imo, but that's just my thoughts. Overall love the story and the video!!
Omg I LOVE THISSSS!! Pitch as safety is AMAZING! And kinda shows the two types of fear - rational and irrational: rational (fear of falling when standing next to a cliff) is what keeps our basic human instincts from going out the window; and irrational, which is what most people jump to when they hear the word fear - this is your more spooky monsters and fantastical . Pitch would naturally be a mix of both but people would almost always sadly assume he’s irrational fear and therefore evil. It’s just the first thing that comes to mind because fear in any form (as you well put) isn’t something pleasant to experience, so we naturally try to avoid it. But the man in the moon would have chosen him because he also is a key part in keeping the world safe. I just loved this video so much omg
In the books Pitch was actually a noble alien space warrior named Cosmotias Pitchna.(I AM NOT JOKING, I SWEAR TO GOD THIS IS HIS ORIGIN IN THE BOOKS) He was a noble warrior who faught against creatures called fearlings. The fearlings killed his wife and presumably killed his daughter. He locked them up on a prison planet but they imitated his daughter to manipulate him. He opens the prison volt and gets possessed by the fearlings. Transforming into the Pitch Black the Nightmare King.
This is amazing! I LOVE how Tooth's design is inspired by a dancer's, because it's so light and flowy (and she flies so it must look SO PRETTY when she does). And the idea of Jack's "new outfit" being STILL inspired by the colonial times, and being a suit? MASTERPEICE! But Pitch actually being good in the end is the BEST PART (in my humble opinion, ofc). We NEED less Arab-style bad guys, and I love how you didn't make his culture his entire personality, if that makes sense. And the timeskip idea, especially skipping like 10 years, can show the 4 sleep-over kids as adults, with kids of their own, telling stories about the Guardians. This is the type of remake we NEED nowadays.
This is amazing. I feel like this could lead to a second movie which could be the guardians dealing with forces of nature like for example mother nature, the man in the moon, helios maybe (the man who rules and runs the sun), and more. They could be feuding and the man in the moon fearing the chaos it may cause to the humans assigns a new guardian.
"Didnt come out perfectly" miss GURL DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF?! I didnt know i needed this version of the movie until i saw your video HOLY FUCK i need this in move theaters NOW this is amazing! Wonderful video!
Hearing you talk about how Pitch's design reminded you of disdachas (we call them thobes here in Saudi Arabia, so the name was new to me) was very interesting, and I loved seeing a bit of Arab flavor on more characters.
I really love your spin on the Guardians, it's a refreshing take seeing more thought and care into Pitch's story as well as the others getting screentime together. Not to mention the rad designs you updated them with (I love what u did with Tooth, she looks so gorgeous) Also also- I gotta say that it's so thematically sweet and perfect if Tooth is the first one of the original Guardians to apologize to Pitch and want him back in the group. Like she has every reason to hold a grudge since she was the first to be sabotaged and had all her helpers stolen from her. But I think bc she learnt of his life before, she can humanize him and see how genuinely hurt he must have been after they kicked him out.
I really like pitch, and I enjoy the thought he comes around Halloween (going off of Christian holidays cause that’s what is happening in the movie), and I love the thought that while he brings fear he also brings courage Edit: also autumn stuff
This sounds like a much more satisfying story than the original one, the parallels between jack and pitch line up better and the story centers on the main cast instead of making it feel like these random kids are playing a big role in metaphysical powers that they in no way should be worried about because hey they’re kids and don’t need to be a part of that. You tied up the plot holes I hated in the original (where pitch came from being the biggest of them) and created a charming story that improved on all aspects. Wonderful!
I really love this rewrite! I love the movie, but I definitely didn’t think too hard about the flaws in the movie until seeing this rewrite and how well it patched up the holes. Seeing how everyone’s roles are important and how Pitch gets redeemed because we can’t live without some fear of danger, really pulls this rewrite together. I love the attention to detail and how well the rewrite is crafted with the ending and the third act. Maybe a few more scenes of Pitch coming around to being a guardian and making up for almost making the guardians fade out existence would be nice before the epilogue to really hit home the redemption. Other than that, it’s really good! I’d like to add one thing for the scene where Jack remembers his memories. It’d be cool to see him experiencing those memories as if he’s standing on the side seeing his younger self play out the memories if that makes sense. It’d start with him being a newborn baby and seeing his parents first in a cabin (maybe they grew up in a place that’s always snowy, so the other seasons aren’t familiar to him). Then the scene would shift and we’d see him meeting his little sister. He’s probably excited to have a new sister and blabs about all the things that they could do together. Cut to various scenes of the two growing up, getting in trouble, Jack playing pranks on his sister, etc., but ultimately having a super close bond. Present-day Jack is definitely happy about the memories as his reaction in the movie is until we get to the scene with the lake. Present-day Jack doesn’t realize this is his last moment he was alive and so the gut punch will come when he see his past self fall into the lake. So it starts off with him and his sister wanting to go ice skating, and forgot to check to make sure the lake was thick enough which is where the scene plays out just like it did in the movie. I interpreted it as Jack trying to keep his sister from panicking because if she freaks out and tries to run or shift more then she’d fall in, hence why Jack was acting silly and making her laugh. Jack falls in the ice because he stood straight up instead of distributing his weight across the ice as you should, and the rest plays out about the same as the movie except Jack’s mood is more bittersweet than inspired. He’s happy for the lovely memories, but definitely is sad that he didn’t get to live out his life and see what happened to his family. But it helps him see his purpose, be responsible, and see how Pitch’s role is caution and safety through fear.
I loved this, filled a Rise of the Guardian hole in my heart I didn't know existed. Also that ending leaves plenty of space for fans to thrive through ocs or fanfiction or a sequel to be made.
4:40 ARE YOU ARAB TOO!? YESSS Edit: Just watched the whole video and DAMN!! I love how you made the connection between pitch and jack MUCH better, this is literally great and I could not think of better way to tell the whole story. Great job^^
I loved the original movie myself but this made the movie so much better! ❤ I love the viewpoint of Pitch being a guardian. It makes more sense than the way the movie described.
I would love to see a re-design for Pitch's daughter, Emily. She took on the role of Mother Nature in the lore so the flower crown was really cute to see!
I want this and like a throwaway comment of "I was almost late for exam, but I had a nightmare about being late for my exam so I set an alarm" or something like that.
Omg I love this! Rotg was one of my fave movies growing up and I think exploring more that pitch being a being a fear/safety would have really brought the original movie to another level. I love seeing content like this that builds on the original’s shortcomings while also very much paying homage to what was great about it. Love this
I don't have much to say i just love your version of Pitch. He's the best and i love the good end you gave him! And the design too, he looks amazing!!! This made me very happy, amazing vid :]
I really really like this rewrite actually! The story while mostly told in broad strokes in this vid, I'm really intrigued with the concept! Also the designs are really good! I love how shapey you made them, especially in the little doodle sketches throughout the vid, especially Jack's little poofy hair which is too friggin cute. ALSO YOU DID PITCH SO MUCH JUSTICE I AM DELIGHTED AND HIS DESIGN IS *CHEF'S KISS* it's very cool and very nice.
I absolutely adore the designs, the rewritten plot, and everything you've added or changed! I especially love Pitch's design, it adds to much more dimension to him as a character even without words. However I am wondering how and if Christmas was saved at all, like if the gifts were remade by the yetis or if they really could do nothing about it at that rate. This is truly a great rewrite of a wonderful movie while still sticking to its source material, and the source material of that even! I appreciate the time and effort put into this, and the fact that you put a TON of drawings to show each scene you're describing? Absolutely the cherry on top!!! 💕
If only there were enough animators interested to make a reanimation of the movie with this script. It wouldn’t have to be great animation, even be an animatic of sorts. It would be cool to see.
OMG THIS IS SO- I JUST- I CRI EVERTIM 😭I wish this was the real one, cuz omg it just makes so much sense and it's SUCH a better story!! Pitch needs all the love, he's a precious bean and he must be protected!
oh i absolutely love pitch's redesign. You did a really great job with him uwaaa I also really liked how much more you emphasized the importance of caution/fear with him. tis very nice. As well as the horror Jack would feel from learning about his death. :'''D Enjoyed the video a ton! thank you for making it!
I think it would be cool for an alternative universe in which sandy is corrupted instead of killed. He could be 100% indifferent to both sides, but technically helping pitch since his imagination is still intact. No more horses everwhere! Sandy would attack the guardians eventually, since they would start destroying the nightmares, which are now his again, not pitchs. Pitch would get real mad about that. I also like the idea of santa getting swarmed by creepy dolls. Jack would be the one to realize sandy is 'kinda' still the same when he randomly comes up and shows him his most recent work. Like "look what i made 😊" it's of course something along the lines of a screaming skull. And he would be brought back the same way, but still remain partly nightmarish, with a cool swirling pattern in his tunic and heterochromia. He would become in charge of both dreams and nightmares.
Absolutely amazing, I loved how pitch gets redeemed here and I love how it’s a moment of reflection for the guardians that they were in the wrong for their past mistakes and how it all gives the moral of it’s ok to be scared and feel fear. I love the design changes to tooth jack and pitch, their designs were always so simple to me and for pitch and jack it really shows through in their personality changes (maybe jack’s isn’t actually too changed, just gave me a different vibe). My only problem with it is how easy it was to get the kids to believe again as well as Sandy’s revival (which also annoyed me in the original movie) I feel like the children believing could have been done similarly to the movie where jack himself gives up his selfishness to make the children believe. But this is still really good, if the actual film was made like this it’d be my 1st or 2nd fav from 3rd fav beating out into the spider verse and maybe the 1st pirates movie, thank you for making me sad this version doesn’t exist outside this video
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 never before have I been so offended by something that I wholeheartedly agree with, but yea, I basically just watch animated movies because of the great animation, i usually like to interact with the story and thus play video games
@RockmanGaming I feel there's some stories that can only be experience passively and some that would be better suited when you can control them. Videogames still see story as a dirty word so Iunno what you're talking about there lol.
@@Elmushterri My family and I watch the original all the time and it never gets old but I love how in your version we get a different view and perspective of the characters I’ve always been curious about Pitch’s backstory and the bed(?) And we never get a clear view on that but in this it’s completely different and I’m actually satisfied with the ending this time xd The original is more rushed and doesn’t take its time to “appreciate the little things” but here we have a compelling backstory, bonding moments, character development, The👏Redemption👏Arc👏 It’s got the whole package I now kinda wish the original was made like this lol Anyway I love your videos they are always super interesting and entertaining to watch I enjoy writing and your videos help me understand characters better and how to make a plot more interesting etc... I believe that what you are doing is really cool and I can’t wait to see more of your videos 💕
Ok ok, I was recommended this video by UA-cam and I'm glad. I really, really, really like this rewrite. I love your version of Pitch and his complexity. I also love his new backstory. In the context of the movies Pitch doesn't really make much sense but I did learn about the books and his origins but yeah. Anyways I love love this rewrite
OURGHH DUDE!! This was amazing and I adore the new designs you've done!! now i'm super sad this isn't the actual movie because this would've been so much fun, and i really like the ending you chose!!
I love the Pitch redesign! The details are a huge improvement compared to his Canon design. Also love the rewritten, your Pitch feels a lot like a strict but protective father.
I think instead of an ice palace, it would be cool if it was juts a really dope snow fort, like the type every kid who lice somewhere with lots of snow wanted to build; since he's the guardian of fun, it would make more sense than a palace
I absolutely love this! The one thing I would add is one or two scenes in the beginning where the kids are being reckless (like the sleigh scene in the original) and get hurt. This would tie in with the importance of fear and Pitch's return later in the movie
That is an INSANELY good idea! I shoulda put that in, it makes so much sense! Thank you so much, and I’m happy you enjoyed it! 🧡🧡🧡
OMG! Mate, that's genuis!!!!
Reminds me of Anxiety in Sander Sides. He might seem bad but has a function too
@@lorettabes4553 exactly, was just about to comment this, Virgil is my favourite side, without him we've seen how Thomas is
I was gonna say Fear from inside out 😆
Yess
I love your take on Pitch. Fear is necessary, and honestly I think him adopting Halloween would make sense. I think this version lacks the "finding your core" character arc Jack goes through, but it could be easily included. It's seen as a counter to Pitch's fear in the movie, so focusing on Pitch and Jack's dynamic would naturally bring up the balance between Fun and Fear, like Sadness helping Riley feel again and then turning to being forward Joy.
Pitch and Jack would make the best rollercoasters. Terrifying enough to be thrilling, but safe enough that you don’t die.
*deep breath* VIRGILLLL
(Sorry if this is cringe, I just was *so* reminded of his character ark)
Ohh I love the halloween idea, maybe Jack and Pitch can host it together- the main thing on Halloween is having fun from getting scared
I love the fact that jack's design gives off "sassy victorian child" .
I love this idea (°▽°)
That could be at the start when it's the snow day
I had an idea for Pitch's backstory.
And when he became a guardian, he made sure he had learned his lesson.
ohhh this is actually good, this can be a good emphasis on this scene 8:00
I just watched it yeah this fits right in
kratos inspiration, the dark dream sand is ash from pitch's nightmare that mix with regular dream sand. sandy can separate the two because the ash doesn't haunt him the way it does for pitch
Ehhh, don't really like the encouragement of scaring kids 'for their safety'
I like the overall idea, but I think it'd be better if instead he simply tried to keep kids from being afraid of things like fire by telling them that fire is good actually and leaving out how dangerous it is
@@lightningqueen1145 that doesn't make since with his backstory because his whole is fear anyways and if his kids died than why would he tell them not to be afraid? Telling them not to be afraid of styff like fire would just cause worse consequences anyway.
The whole idea of turning pitch from fear to safety was BRILLIANT
Rise of the Guardians has got to be one of my favourite movies ever, I am so happy to see that people are still enthusiastic about it! I love the Pitch redemption arc as well. It always rubbed me the wrong way how the personification of fear was basically demonised, because fear is actually a good thing to have! (In healthy amounts of course)
especially cause some of the virtues of each guardian can easily turn bad if in excess! ie holding onto memories more than looking at the present and future and getting stuck in something that is over, excessive fun directly leads to recklessness and forgetting other responsibilities
@@Pichi-lv6yx Yes exactly! Wanted to say something like that in the original comment, but I didn't know how to word it lol
the books have an interesting history and lore that wasnt really used (much if at all other than as inspiration for the movie) that explains pitch's relationship with manny and how he became the boogeyman.
So then what's with the rewriting and why is it necessary
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that
I'm gonna be honest this the rewrite i didnt know I needed
The third act is honestly perfect imo, it wraps up everything in a way the movie couldn't!
The open ending is amazing too, it could either be an opening to a sequel or a great way for kids to just add in their own guardian self insert
I'm not good with critique but you can tell I really love this video, keep up the good work mushterri :)
Thank you for this comment!!! 😤😤 I’m glad you liked the third act, I wasn’t quite sure of it! And also, I never thought about the ending being good for kids to make ocs, that’s a great observation! I always appreciate long comments, so thank you so so much 🧡
same @ the first part bc i was like "i dont think there's any huge problems with the movie?" But then watching this i was like ahh all this makes a lot sense
Edit: i should be clear i don't remember much of this movie anyhow so ofc i didnt have any opinions on it 💀
@@sleepy.timaeus.arts. me too! Now I want this alternate movie!
just now noticing what u said about guardian ocs omg. that wouldve been lovely. ur making me excited about it :D lol
I don't think that's necessary
My characters actually have a saying.
"The dark may seem scary at first, but even the dark has kindness and it's own fears".
The ying yang represents that you can't have one thing without the other. You can't be good without being bad and you can't be bad without being a bit good.
11:07 Damn my phone has great thematic timing. As soon as Sandy came my screen got brighter, but when Pitch turned the sand black my screen got darker
Haha! This makes me happy, that’s fantastic! The Nightmare King is influencing screens now.. 💅
I absolutely LOVE this rewrite. It'd be cool if there was a part two where you make a sequel movie that shows more of the other characters in the books. I haven't read the books but I'm sure there are more guardians there, Mother Nature perhaps?
I do know of Mother Nature, actually! I think in the book, it was either her or Mother Goose that was Pitch’s daughter. Also, thank you!!! 🧡🧡
But otherwise do i totally agree with this!❤
I love this!
That is a good idea! Having Jack stand alone does make sense too, though I do love the found family trope. Your ideas are awesome! 🧡 and Ty!
There was a HUGE missed opportunity with ROTG Santa. The swords. They could've, and should've been candy canes!
Thank you!
i love jacks redesign, im glad you added to his staff stick cus before it kinda just felt like a stick
Thank you! I didn’t add much, just a spiral and some ice 💅🧡
@@Elmushterri and that was enough 🤝😩
I would give pitch a thousand hugs if he was like this 🥰
I am now accepting this as the new canon as everyone should. Thank you for blessing us.
Pitch is supposed represent bravery to kids
Pitch brings fear to kids (or adults), but they can forget about him by feeling brave, like at the end of the movie
Maybe that's why he was chosen
Maybe in his youth he scared people for fun, by telling them scary stories or bullying them, but the people would feel the need to stand up for themselves and not be afraid
The movie movie never specified The man in the moon only picked good people to be chosen
Pitch is supposed to bring people stand up for themselves to stop being scared, to feel stronger about themselves
As well as survival for them, to have them second guess when in danger so they don't do anything brash, like fear from inside out
So I like how you portray him, it's accurate
I love the design for Pitch, his head piece I don’t know what it’s called but it adds to the whole shadow theme with how flowy it is
25:36 WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT’S THE EPITOME OF PERFECTION
This is super interesting!
The reason Sandy has sand is because he was a star, and that sand is the remainder of his star after he was shot out of the sky. Pitch was possessed by monsters called Fearlings who lured him in by copying his daughter’s voice, which I’m sad this isn’t mentioned in the movie because it shows that Pitch has a kinder side. (His daughter becomes Mother Nature too so that’s fun.)
I do love your idea of Pitch being the guardian of Safety because you’re right, fear isn’t bad, it’s necessary.
(Also MiM isn’t exactly benevolent.)
But yes, your idea is BEAUTIFUL! How have I not seen your channel before? It’s gorgeous.
Honestly, guardians was filled with both good character design but also Daddy energy. I don't know a single friend who didn't have a vicious attraction to one of the guys
In love with this concept and your art lmao
I also really love little Victorian lad Jack, and just the idea of him using phrases or speech patterns from that era when particularly upset is kinda funny me
Fantastic video tho :D
I love it! It still has that childlike wonder, but it feels more complete.
You are a great writer and artist, this is a masterpiece
Being called those things really warms my heart! You’ve made my day 🧡🧡 :D!
I absolutely ADORE Pitch's redesign like yasss gurl what a glo-up!!
I LOVE THIS! it also fits with the book lore where pitch was originally a good guy that got corrupted
Literally obsessed with jack’s hair, like so Floof, so dramatic?.
And then jacks new hairstyle?? So fab, so frosty boi??
No, seriously good on you kids GG." lol
Also the point that spooky stuff is fun.
“Nice Smile- Pitch addition” *PFFTTTTT-*
love how u kept nick and sandy - those dudes were always my favs :3
Coincidentally, I just finished watching the movie, went upstairs and put on UA-cam. I saw this on my recommended and watched this. PLEASE FULLY ANIMATE THIS ITS AMAZING
I feel like we got robbed because we could've had this version of Rise of the Guardians but we got the original version.
We need this rewrite for a whole new movie.
I can see it in a Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood-esk style animation. 👀
I love how you rewrote pitch, I've dedicated a ridiculous amount of headspace trying to figure out how pitch could've been depicted better. The guardian of safety works really well!!!
this is so funny since I was just thinking about Pitch the other day and how weird the plot holes were 😆
I totally agree with you, I think that Pitch's center wasn't to strike fear into children, but to act as a figure for redemption or safety.
It’s hard to imagine pitch saying damn 💀
HEHEH NO YEAH, that’s just me paraphrasing the idea of what he’d say in my movie! Most of this is hehe
I’m just imagining him saying « Damn bro, you got mad skills. »
I really want to see this made into a real movie it would great to watch
Not to mention the rad designs you updated them with (I love what u did with Tooth, she looks so gorgeous)
Also also- I gotta say that it's so thematically sweet and perfect if Tooth is the first one of the original Guardians to apologize to Pitch and want him back in the group. Like she has every reason to hold a grudge since she was the first to be sabotaged and had all her helpers stolen from her. But I think bc she learnt of his life before, she can humanize him and see how genuinely hurt he must have been after they kicked him out.
I really like pitch, and I enjoy the thought he comes around Halloween (going off of Christian holidays cause that’s what is happening in the movie), and I love the thought that while he brings fear he also brings courage
Edit: also autumn stuff
4:40
ARE YOU ARAB TOO!? YESSS
Edit: Just watched the whole video and DAMN!!
I love how you made the connection between pitch and jack MUCH better, this is literally great and I could not think of better way to tell the whole story. Great job^^
Bro Pitch kinda looks like how I imagine hades in this part, 23:30 with like Persephone's crown.
I loved the original movie myself but this made the movie so much better! ❤ I love the viewpoint of Pitch being a guardian. It makes more sense than the way the movie described.
On the tiny chance that u didn’t already know, I believe that this movie was based on the book series guardians of childhood :) it’s a great series
Love this
Of fear/safety*
I don't have much to say i just love your version of Pitch. He's the best and i love the good end you gave him! And the design too, he looks amazing!!! This made me very happy, amazing vid :]
I honestly really love this so much the framing that pitch wasn't bad because his idea didn't feel that way just kind of messed up this is real good
I really really like this rewrite actually!
Rise of The Guardians gotta be one of the movies ever
It would be cool to see.
you might think the act 3 is not perfect, but i think the whole thing is so amazing and i love it
I never know what to comment, but I love your art style and how dynamic everything looks :)
Aww, thanks!! I’m happy that you think they’re dynamic 😭🧡🧡💅
You did a really great job with him uwaaa
I also really liked how much more you emphasized the importance of caution/fear with him. tis very nice.
As well as the horror Jack would feel from learning about his death. :'''D
Enjoyed the video a ton! thank you for making it!
Think you need more film experience
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 never before have I been so offended by something that I wholeheartedly agree with, but yea, I basically just watch animated movies because of the great animation, i usually like to interact with the story and thus play video games
@RockmanGaming I feel there's some stories that can only be experience passively and some that would be better suited when you can control them. Videogames still see story as a dirty word so Iunno what you're talking about there lol.
OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS
I adored the original movie but this....THIS....
This Is A Masterpiece
A masterpiece? 🧡🧡😭😭😭😭 I appreciate that so much! Thank you!! I also adore the original.
@@Elmushterri My family and I watch the original all the time and it never gets old but I love how in your version we get a different view and perspective of the characters
I’ve always been curious about Pitch’s backstory and the bed(?) And we never get a clear view on that
but in this it’s completely different and I’m actually satisfied with the ending this time xd
The original is more rushed and doesn’t take its time to “appreciate the little things” but here we have a compelling backstory, bonding moments, character development, The👏Redemption👏Arc👏
It’s got the whole package
I now kinda wish the original was made like this lol
Anyway I love your videos they are always super interesting and entertaining to watch
I enjoy writing and your videos help me understand characters better and how to make a plot more interesting etc...
I believe that what you are doing is really cool and I can’t wait to see more of your videos 💕
This fandom is so strong I love you guys
Jack frost's look in this video makes me think of Neil gaiman's dream and death. I think that is just wonderful
The "that's rough buddy" made me think of zukko 😅 but I love this so much! I honestly was really hoping this would happen in the movie
I love the Pitch redesign! The details are a huge improvement compared to his Canon design. Also love the rewritten, your Pitch feels a lot like a strict but protective father.
This is so perfect. I love the original one but like you said it's OK to see it's flaws. Your take on it is so good can one please realize it!
I like Rise of the Guardians and I like people reworking stories so I came here randomly and now I'm in love cuz this is my type of Comedy
i really like this and it sort of explains why fear is important for safety and why he has his own globe in the movie
I think instead of an ice palace, it would be cool if it was juts a really dope snow fort, like the type every kid who lice somewhere with lots of snow wanted to build; since he's the guardian of fun, it would make more sense than a palace
This is lovely!! I am very happy ROTG is getting new fan content like this
Also your version of Pitch is so pretty, lovely design
