there is another decay phase besides the dry corpse, if you go far enough and wait a few days (of the game) come back and you will see that the mummy is now a skeleton, this is for both animals and humans. Also if you shoot again to a bullet wound it will be deeper
The character responses and detail for the wounds definitely elevated my experience with RDR2. Killing anyone who wasn't explicitly hostile like bandits actually made me feel bad because the injuries looked genuinely painful and actually made me want to play as a good character. It's always good when mechanics like that actually influence your experience.
don't kill them, just shoot them, take their guns off, then with the machete dodge him and instantly hit them with a non-lethal counterattack; after they are totally full of wounds knock them out, tie them with the rope and drag them along the river, nobody dies (if when you point them with the gun and the point is red, it means they are still alive) and we all have fun.
Random Madness you missed so many aspects. Blood dissipates in water. Your character gets cuts and bruises when falling, animal legs can be dismembered, arrows go all the way through the body, animal bodies decay, animal fur burns off, hair burns off slowly, the euphoria engine automatically has people flip over railings or fall off ledges when shot, the bruising in fist fights is fully dynamic, there are multiple levels of damage if you hit the area a bunch of times (first there will be a bright pink bruise, then red, then purple, and then gray), if you tackle someone into the water, you can drown them, knocked out NPCs will wake up after a while, you can see veins and stuff after skinning an animal, the skinning is realistic, smaller animals such as snakes and small birds will explode into a blood puff when shot with a shotgun or explosive ammo, horse manes and tails are burned off, if you shoot an animal in an artery, it will run away bleeding before dropping down (like the humans) and you will get an option to put it out of its misery, alligators and bears will eat people if you put them near them, trains dismember limbs, cops will carry away dead bodies after a shootout, windows will get stained with blood, when someone grabs you by the neck and starts punching you in the back, other enemies in the fight will begin punching you in the stomach, if you shoot someone who was hanged, the body will sway around, and you can also break the rope if you shoot it, if you shoot someone in the head while they’re screaming in pain, they’ll immediately become silent, high velocity bullets pierce the arteries more easily, characters get soot on their body when dynamite blows up near them, people will try to dive out of the way of explosives, feet can get stuck in stirrups if you kill someone on horseback, you can still fire your gun after death (provided your gun has ammo), hats can be shot off without wounding the person, bullet holes will stay in clothing after the wound on your character heals, hats will permanently have a bullet hole, and small game arrows take a bunch of hits to kill someone. By the way, if someone throws a Molotov at you, your inner organs will instantly be fried, so the reaction IS realistic.
Omega Synth Well he isn’t wrong, the body damage decals all look the same and the shotgun body wound is the worst one by far with that blurry undetailed texture, there should’ve been textures that show clothes tearing along with knife slashes since it doesn’t make since for you to get injured by a knife slash to your body if your wearing layers of clothes. TheSpacedIsland I did a similar thing. I shot a guy in the hand who was holding a shotgun. As he dropped it the butt fell first causing the barrel to face upwards towards the guys head. Once the shotgun hit the ground it blew his head clean off.
There was some stuff I almost missed, like the blood trails for severed head and such. Really a great deal of detail, and with some tweaks the experience can be even better.
I remember once during a side mission set inside an abandoned house, two bandits jumped Arthur, one going into the room I was in, the other staying in the other room that lead to the exit door. Arthur pulled a knife on the first due to the close quarters struggle, then after I hastily dispatched him I drew my shotgun, and slowly rounded the doorway into the other room. The second guy was unexpectedly quiet, and I wondered if he ran off due to the brutality of what happened to the first guy. Suddenly he rushes me from behind the broken staircase to my right. I had only just enough time to line up the shot before he was on me, and I ended up pulling the trigger right was we connected. Instead of canceling the shot, or having it hit scan strike the other guy like most other shooters would, the gun went off as it was pushed sideways during the grapple, blasting a hole into the wall near the top of the stairs. I pushed him back off of me. He stumbled back, tripping over a wooden beam on the ground and almost falling. I quickly racked a new round, and dropped him with a blast to the chest. This whole confrontation happened in the span of 30 seconds, and I remember thinking to myself not how someone playing a game would, but how someone in that situation would. I could feel the shock of the gun going off in an unexpected direction just as much as if it I was there and it was putting me in mortal danger. I could almost feel the way Arthur fumbled to pump the shotgun as I panicked tapped the fire button to load the new round and shoot this guy while he was vulnerable. I had never felt so connected to a game on an immersion level before that moment, and it was all because Rockstar implemented the simple feature of "if you press the fire button while holding a loaded gun, it'll fire, period". The little mechanics is what really sells this game for me.
Dude I've had the same experience a as you too. Especially on acid, oh my god I felt like I was feeling EVERYTHING in the game, the emotion in the sorry was too much to bare at some points
@@uncle7215 I don't recall the name of the mission or most of the specifics at the moment, but I believe it was the one where you investigate an abandoned house to recover the deed for a destitute relative of the former owner, or something to that affect. after checking every day for over a month, it is finally here, i’ve been watching since your darkness 2 review and this one that i’ve really wanted you to review, just wanna say thanks for providing sadistic entertainment for the majority of my time in school
Seems like this has one of the highest points for gore in a while. I agree with the points that you brought up. (Especially the fire, huge disappointment, especially because the burned texture looks so gross, and the slow crawl of fire, guess mods will fix that I'm sure.) Over all? I feel like this game has a lot of badass features, other game companies should take note, a d improve/expand.
Victor I never understand that though, if you’re blowing a head off you’re blowing a head off, so what if it’s modern day. GTA V lets you go on mass shootings, a little gore shouldn’t make it any more controversial.
about mods, from the looks of things we will be able to adjust almost every single aspect ofthe gore sysem. like dismemberment activation iirc, blood of course etc. so i think with mods in the future RDR2 will get a few points more
That’s Rockstar Games for you, putting a lot of detail in every aspect of it's games Another detail is that horse's balls shrink when they are in a cold place
Great review! I wish the bodies didn't disappear, I've never seen anyone decompose because they disappear almost immediately. Also you're right with the burning animation as they die way too quickly
Awesome review! Nothing better than almost half an hour of detailed video game gore I think you forgot to mention how blood looks like it should when it's spilled underwater, tho :p
The funny thing about it is that the effect will directly follow the character, and when one is being flushed quickly in the river it looks a little comical. But yeah, it's just one of those things I chose not to include in this video
21:38 I’ve actually had this happened to me multiple times. Can confirm that it’s a Euphoria-related thing and doesn’t have a set chance to activate is relied only on physics, environment and angling.
Just a note about your critique of the length of the reactions to fatal gunshots - I don't know if you've seen it, but there is a youtube video of an ER doctor analyzing the gore in the game and he mentioned that the animations for fatal wounds were incredibly realistic. Unlike Hollywood movies where people will writhe around for extended periods of time after a fatal wound, in real life the ER doctor makes a note that people die/bleed out insanely fast from fatal wounds. Just thought I would mention that
12:27 actually there are other factors: how much time the body is there, example: if you shoot an alive person/animal will expill more blood then when you shoot an dead person/animal, the position where you hit, and if you already hit the same place
One can only appreciate the gore in a game, after watching Valentines review on it. Thank you for being so thorough. This game is a breakthrough in many gore mechanics. You should definitely check the mods created for gta v, based on this game.
Imagine if GTA 6 has this level of gore but it's expanded so gore is on every form of NPC with new types of brutal wounds and injuries. like blood trails type of gore but dumbed down to half.
I got so happy when I got the notification. Amazing work as usual! One of my favorite things to do is to hogtie someone and drown them. They have a animation of them trying to breathe as well.
You dont even need to hogtie them. If you fight with a character in a river, its possible to grab him, put him on the ground and then you can press the "strangle" button. Arthur will push the head under water xD
Quality content as always! I would love to play a game that's had your input and direction for the gore aspect, it would be realistically and fantastically brutal :D
One thing I noticed when playing is that sometimes Arthur would get a large gash from a knife fight and when talking to random people, they would ask him if he is hurt or needs medical attention.
There is a thing where when you kill someone, they can shoot their gun as they fall, And when you die you can keep shooting as well when the screen goes white.
Fuck yes, saw the video in my feed this morning and was looking forward to watching it all day. Keep up the good shit man! You also missed some cool features such as environmental kills like bashing heads into walls and throwing people out windows, you can also drown people by strangling near water. You can go repeated deep stabs for a more brutal effect sometimes when grabbing characters standing with a knife and pressing stab rather than execute. The bloody water effects are pretty well done as well. Another cool feature is that hogtied people with lift their heads to try and struggle to stay above water. The amount of detail in this game is absolutely insane
Something I didn't know about until recently apparently there is another stage after the dried corpse stage where there is just bits of a skeleton left and if it gets to that stage they actually become a permanent object in the game world and wont despawn over time so you might see an upper body skeleton lying around like rib cage skull and an arm i believe there are 2 varients of skeleton
I think great thing about RDR2's gore is that all the npcs feel like real people and it adds so much to the psychological shock which I also consider to be another kind of "gore".
You didnt mention that if you kill store npcs, they will return, with bandages appropreate for where they were shot, as well have appropreate lines to say to you for shooting them
When you use explosive rounds, such as in a revolver, a massive amount of blood appears, but the arterial hit, pissing blood thing is my favorite form of damage too. I don't understand people finishing them off when they trigger this. I watch them all the way to the last convulsion if possible. Also, I think the beading on parts of the trail from arterial spray makes pretty good sense, because it either sometimes or always isn't a totally solid stream. There could also be splashing from the puddles creating some of it in cases when it's in close proximity to a puddle, etc. I'm not saying this is necessarily adequate to account for it, but it helps me to enjoy playing the game. Furthermore, that dried and decomposed corpse model looks so much like an actual decomposed body from a Vox documentary on UA-cam on decomposition that it cannot be coincidental.
RDR 2 tops SOF 2 with a score of 67 vs 62 ! Awesome. Thanks for the review. This was hotly anticipated. As expected a very critical, stern and fair assessment. I agree the game needed just a little more blood. But certainly will go down in the books. When mods come out I will probably play the game through for a second time. What a great story and a great protagonist. I will also probably play through the second time as a psychopath - I was 'good' the first time just because of how much gravity and immersion they were able to pull off with this title.
Talking about 21:34, I was messing around with Ped spawners when one of the npc's I shot stumbled and shot one of the unconscious guys on the ground I knocked out earlier.
@Random Madness I figured you would deliver and you did 😂👍👍👍👍 That is a top review on a top game. Gore mechanics alone, personally I think it's actually better then Killing Floor 2 for response I'm glad you mentioned the cinematic kills. Personally I think that's worth a point somewhere (even in the feel) purely for how entertaining it is when it appears. In my 3rd play through that still doesnt get old. Top review man.
Thanks! I do think the slo mo cam would look better without the filter, there were a few moments I had that would look so much better with just full color
I remember one day I was going on a rampage in black water and checking the gore out and my lil cousin had started crying because he was terrified of what he was seeing
Although you will probably not do this. Rdr2 has made a few good and bad changes to wound and injury affects, for example, the explosions of dynamite and more will now dismeber and also at slightly longer ranges you will see burnt bubbles on the flesh. They also increased the burning animation and shrapnel from molotovs and such. There are many more effects as well. So if you can check that out!

The funny thing about it is that the effect will directly follow the character, and when one is being flushed quickly in the river it looks a little comical. But yeah, it's just one of those things I chose not to include in this video
finally rockstar games back putting gore in their games
*Manhunt 3 confirmed*
@@chillcult1613 I hope so... it would be fucking amazing if they release a manhunt 3
@@chillcult1613 never gonna happen.
@@Hopium500 how dare u Obama....im gonna tell ur mom!!!
And putting Euphoria Physics.
21:38 I’ve actually had this happened to me multiple times. Can confirm that it’s a Euphoria-related thing and doesn’t have a set chance to activate is relied only on physics, environment and angling.
Saw several comments about that happening. Guess just no luck with it on my end
Just thought I would mention that
Would you happen to remember where you saw this?
@@thebigcapitalism9826 it's from buzzfeed iirc
RDR2 has the best gore ive seen
egree
TLOU 2 bruv
12:27 actually there are other factors: how much time the body is there, example: if you shoot an alive person/animal will expill more blood then when you shoot an dead person/animal, the position where you hit, and if you already hit the same place
Honestly, it's really a shame that the blood disappears so quickly. Thought it would stay as long as you were around, like gtav or rd1.
One can only appreciate the gore in a game, after watching Valentines review on it. Thank you for being so thorough. This game is a breakthrough in many gore mechanics. You should definitely check the mods created for gta v, based on this game.
Yeah, definitely planning to look into GTA V mods later on
Imagine if GTA 6 has this level of gore but it's expanded so gore is on every form of NPC with new types of brutal wounds and injuries. like blood trails type of gore but dumbed down to half.
Oh yea I was waiting for this!
Review points 100 out of 100
Thanks!
"Sir, you're leaking"
"Nah it's just a flesh wound"
Very professional reviews, you've earned a subscriber.
Enjoy the vids man, lots more to come
I got so happy when I got the notification. Amazing work as usual! One of my favorite things to do is to hogtie someone and drown them. They have a animation of them trying to breathe as well.
Love the hogtie feature
You dont even need to hogtie them. If you fight with a character in a river, its possible to grab him, put him on the ground and then you can press the "strangle" button. Arthur will push the head under water xD
Damn, that's something I've never really tried
@@Ceeed100 nah, he will push the head into the water even if you don't choose the choke button
Body decomposition is an interesting mechanic ive never seen in games before.
this dude makes sure his video has subtitles big respect
Cheers man
i been waiting for this for over a year!
I assume there will be more coverage of RDR2 with mods
@@RandomMadnessChannel can't wait :)
Keep at these videos they are great and you are the only one on youtube who reviews gore. And gore is a deciding factor in purchasing a game for me.
Response on the receiving end matters quite a lot
An entertaining review a half-hour long just on Cowboy video game gore. You definitely are “The Mad”
Thanks!
Quality content as always! I would love to play a game that's had your input and direction for the gore aspect, it would be realistically and fantastically brutal :D
I'd be down to do that. Advising response, particularly to Rockstar would be a fucking dream
One thing I noticed when playing is that sometimes Arthur would get a large gash from a knife fight and when talking to random people, they would ask him if he is hurt or needs medical attention.
That too I guess. I was mainly seeing characters disapproving of me coming towards them with a knife in my hand and a mask
YES! I've been waiting for this!!
BOOOI the background soundtrack is kickass especially considering you recorded it yourself
Thanks! All those tracks and some more are in this playlist:

Oh jeez i was actually waiting for this !
YES! I've been looking forward to this
Something I didn't know about until recently apparently there is another stage after the dried corpse stage where there is just bits of a skeleton left and if it gets to that stage they actually become a permanent object in the game world and wont despawn over time so you might see an upper body skeleton lying around like rib cage skull and an arm i believe there are 2 varients of skeleton
Yep, heard about that, think I've seen a screenshot too. Wasn't able to get that personally in my testing
9:49
"It's just a dead body with blood, nothing wrong with it."
*Dead body decays instantly*
"Oh my-"
Been waiting for this one
I think great thing about RDR2's gore is that all the npcs feel like real people and it adds so much to the psychological shock which I also consider to be another kind of "gore".
You know you've gone down the rabbit hole when you find gore reviews
Omg I've been waiting for this thank youuuuu
Yesss, Valentine is truly the master of gore. Every-time you upload a video it's like Christmas for me XD
Almost 30 mins of Christmas this time. Enjoy dude!
At 2:05, Valentin utters the famous catchword that instantly tells you you're watching his channel. All true fans know this word.
I've been waiting over a year for this
You didnt mention that if you kill store npcs, they will return, with bandages appropreate for where they were shot, as well have appropreate lines to say to you for shooting them
Now that's a thing I did miss, sounds awesome, gotta check it out later
4:53 OMG IS PRECIOUS
It's good to see you back on the meat & potato front.
22:34 *shoots shotgun* "What? It was obvious, he's the red spy."
Thanks Tyler! Really looking forward to seeing where modders will take it
21:32, it happens in GTA IV but it's very rare.
0:51 I like how he is just spewing blood and just decides to lean over the rail instead of going to a doctor 😂
I am really looking forward to see more gore improvement mods happen in RDR2
Yeah, can't wait
Talking about 21:34, I was messing around with Ped spawners when one of the npc's I shot stumbled and shot one of the unconscious guys on the ground I knocked out earlier.
lol
@Random Madness I figured you would deliver and you did 😂👍👍👍👍
That is a top review on a top game. Gore mechanics alone, personally I think it's actually better then Killing Floor 2 for response
I'm glad you mentioned the cinematic kills.
I cant tell if the butcher is scared or anxious to dig in
Everyone was harmed in the making of this video.
This guy should be hired for gore in games
The way characters respond to getting shot of some of the best I've seen in a game
Nice been waiting for this thanks!
Been a massive project, happy to finally have it out
Been waiting for this one 💯 good shit bro
6:22, if RDR2 had a zombie mode, this man could run into a bar bleeding everywhere, SO BRUTAL!
very cinematic take on gore which i like.
he forgot about how blood from wounded npc react to water, how tied npc tries to keep their head above the water and horse rotting/dimemberment
I remember one day I was going on a rampage in black water and checking the gore out and my lil cousin had started crying because he was terrified of what he was seeing
Glad you did this. Now I can stop hitting F6 every time I shoot someone to try and get a perfect shot of what exactly is going on
It still is a fun thing to do. Game can deliver some great screens
the bleeding in this game it s pretty cool
Another great video! However there are...No issues with this video. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks!
Damn sometimes i wish devs had a gore advisor like they had on soma, would make so much more games better
thanks for finally making a review dude.
Glad to deliver
Finally you come back you mother brother
I actually have seen an enemy shoot himself when falling over. It is a rare occurrence but it is possible
happy i found this channel
With a few mods this will become one of the best gore games of all time
Absolutely
Although you will probably not do this. Rdr2 has made a few good and bad changes to wound and injury affects, for example, the explosions of dynamite and more will now dismeber and also at slightly longer ranges you will see burnt bubbles on the flesh. They also increased the burning animation and shrapnel from molotovs and such. There are many more effects as well. So if you can check that out!
the butcher in the beginning is absolutely scarred
