He uses the NM scenery as if it's a character, too,, the way Tony Hillerman did. I like his series a lot. It's in the library. Take a look!

I loved roadrunners and quail along the roads, watching dust devils moving across the areas of dust and getting out of the way, agettes and turquoise hunting, making noise to keep the rattle snakes away, going across the boarder to the pink store, Mexicans that couldn't speak it -really-. Sunsets. Yes, I miss New Mexico.
