  • In this video we remove builder drainage and install much more effective drainage pipes. We also improve drainage by removing wood chips and grading the soil away from building.

    It is always interesting watching an older crew work, they have figured out so many trick to just get it done easy. A guy is holding pipes on one end and could just drop them, but he can see the other guy doesn't have a good grip and set them down instead. Real alert and heads up workers are the safest and most efficient while talking smack all the way. You do not have to check after them to make sure the concrete does not have dips or water stops in the wrong place.

      I still wonder at what kind of idiots general contractors must be. They are building in a heavy rainfall area and never plan to manage the water. There is no way to leave a "Retaining Wall" where they did unless it was one trully ginormous boulder in which case they should have taken a day to chissel a decent clearance across instead of hiding it with a "Retaining Wall" instead of carting the rocks off into the woods 50 yards away.

    You should have put some Riprap under the end of the pipes to prevent erosion...
    When you showed the system in use after the storm, you can already see channels being dug into the hillside from all the water slamming into it from the pipes...

    Great work GCFD crew! Ronald is a trooper. A great example for younger generations. If they see and acknowledge such aptitude at all! No need for popup at the end of the line? All I see is rodent making a timeshare resort there. Also wouldn’t piece of french drain tied into the rest of the system be able to pickup all the left water issue where you did grading along the garage? Hope you don’t mind my rookie questions here. 😜

    hey sean great job like always! just remember next time you got to leave at least 6 inches of clearance from the ground so the siding wont rot as fast and get worn by weed wacker. also try not to cover vent holes arround brick walls. Ive learned that from construction over the years. love your videos by the way cant wait for the next one.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  Рік тому +6

      Six inches of clearance is idea but sometimes we can't get it. When making decisions about raising grade or having drainage concerns, sometimes we go with raising the grade. Pest control and making sure to keep organic matter from building up are then stepped up in those areas. Great comment Raul!

    @Gate City Foundation Drainage i wonder if there's a way to use some soil to hide the ends of pipes, not from all points of view, but just from the POV of the house?
    the mega-rich country estates of England used to use ha-ha's (trenches) instead of fences, because they wanted to block entry onto the grounds, but without the visible signs of fences. the trenches would drop vertically on the house side, but gradually slope up on the far side, so the trench was much less obvious to the eye.
    maybe a speed bump of soil rising about 6 inches on the near side would hide the end of the pipe, as opposed to leaving the ground flat all the way over the pipe?
    also, this is all probably more trouble than it's worth, ha. all visual, no function

      We definitely could have done that. The customer wanted to keep grass and plants there though so we went with grading and eliminating the gutter water from the area. So far it's working well.

    I’m surprised you didn’t put a couple inches of river rock at the end of each of your drain pipes??

    Can you open the swale so water drains down the drive way instead of back towards the concrete slab?

    Would it be a good idea to put some rocks where the pipes exit, so it does not wash away the dirt and make a hole.

    That turned out really good. I can see why the owners are happy with that job. You'd be surprised you're on top of the hill and you got all that water around your house. But no great job. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

    Another great video Sean and crew!! Why didn't you add your signature splash box with stones and pavers on the outpipes?
