    I've had this treatment done at my local physio. I can honestly say its pretty painful. However it did rid me of my IT band issue on my left leg after a couple of treatments. I bought myself a kit of ebay from China which was pretty much identical to the one used by my physio and at a cost less than the cost of a session with her. That's not to say that you become an expert and that you stop going for professional advice :)

    Cupping already practised 1000 BC in India, it was done by horn of cattle in olden days and known as (SRINGA). it works very well in many cases of musculo skeltal cases and myalgia, fascitis, muscle injuries, etc.... but in my openion herbal decoction fomentation with steam works much better in this types of cases. As being an integrated sports medicine specialist, we are doing combination of Modern physiotherapy, traditional Indian herbal combinations, for internal and external use. .
    Intra muscular needle stimulations works much better in acute conditions and pain relief can be achieved quicker than modern analgesics in cases like plantar fascitis, tennis elbow, achilles tendinitis, tenosynovitis, etc

    Nice.
    In traditional Mexican medicine those are called ventosas (in Spanish) because they suck the air with warm air.

    Hey Dr. Goldfarb, I've been struggling with ITBS for a couple years now. I have noticed my motor control in my left hip is off. When squatting I have definitely noticed this. I am a PTA and have history as a personal trainer as well. I am curious what your favorite unilateral stabilization exercises for the hip are?

    What would be a good treatment for IT band pain for a non runner? The pain started 2 days after knee replacement and has not gone away 4 months later to date.

    My it band has atrophy from 6 months of non use after a bad knee surgery. It snaps hard at the knee when I bend it. If you touch the outside of the knee, it feels like a bone is jumping. Current physical therapist says it's not an issue and will go away with exercise. He is wrong. I had to tell him to treat it and he did the painful rolling job. No results. I'm stretching the heck out of it hoping to free it.
    How much does that cupping kit cost. I'll do it myself. Thanks

    Should you take anti inflammation meds after? Or does the inflammation help the healing process?

    How long do you wait between treatments? 3 days? 5 days? What do you do on those off days when she comes in to PT? Do you perform other modalities as well?

    I can't bend my knee straight out only half way till it really starts hurting therefore I have to stop @ that point. therapy is going very slow for me I can only do so much my knee started with the outside area of the IT band as it felt a knife going into it that happened 6 months ago & today I need a walker to get around it's not easy...

    Great video. But the cupping would onjly be available at a PT clinic right? I like the Thomas Test stretch. Great idea. Great video and rationale. Question about scar tissue formation. Can a person live with it and be fine? I would think so, considering once you get scar tissue, not much you can do about it. It's an, "It is what it is" scenario, IMO. Anyhow, I like the lengthening aspect you mention here. I will definitely continue prehabbing and ARTing my IT bands. Thanks!

  • @DawzeyJ
    @DawzeyJ 11 років тому +11

    The IT band itself will not lengthen... it's type 1 collagen, probably important to mention that you are simply trying to un-adhere the layers of connective tissue and not actually lengthen the ITB.

      JDawOfficial is right, and a 'Doctor of Physical Therapy' should know that. A foam roller will do the same as these cups. It's interesting that he seems to be applying the cups higher than where the IT band is. It is the muscles that connect to the It band that you want to stretch not the It band itself. He talks about the IT band being scarred as if it is carpel tunnel in someone’s wrist...

      Ironbuket and more evidence of the value of the created doctorate of PT. 🙄 and FYI, this dynamic cupping is what created the severe inflammation in my IT band and has led to pain. Really.

      How is thousands of successes. Try it yourself for $10. Be your own researcher alexis. Don't limit yourself to valuable therapies that seem strange cuz your/were ignorant to them. Ive used cupping for my athletic clients when success was slow with even greater success.

    Dr Goldfarb, You indicated the pathology leading to the chronic ITB was a lack of unilateral, lateral hip proprioception. I am all about finding the cause. Please tell me how you determined this. Thank you in advance for your reply.
