One thing that I disagree in the video... Despite what Blue and Yellow thought, Pink grew up. She was thousands of years more mature than the time she was throwing tamper tantrums. But, like any parent that has a hard time acknowledging their children as actual adults, Blue and Yellow failed to recognized the drastic change in mindset and maturity that Pink had ever since that time. The scene where she was begging to Blue Diamond shows nothing but maturity. A child would proudly raise their voice and cross their arms, but only someone humble would bow before someone who, by all accounts, should be their equal. It's likely that Pink only got the right to have her own planet after she was deemed as "mature enough"... But, when Pink discovered what gemkind was truly doing... Pink had a perspective that neither Blue or Yellow ever had. She was presenting concepts that were alien to the Diamonds. Caring about other life forms isn't supposed to be on a Diamond's "programming". Just like "imagining" wasn't supposed to be a thing that Pearls should do unless they were asked to do it. It's not that Pink wasn't being clear, it's just that, for the Diamonds, caring about organic lifeforms was basically inconceivable at the time. Just like, not too long ago, many humans thought that animals had no soul and were irrational or unable to think or feel... Actually, a lot of humans thought babies felt no pain.
Honestly, I feel like this story is partly about Pink Diamond maturing... and that's she's more in the process. Pink Diamonds behavior and situation makes me think of when children know or face a reality that the adults do not, and feel helpless and desparate as a result.
David Tristan Lamis That depends on what you consider a "better rebellion". If you're talking about effectiveness, than it's not maturity that she lacked, it was power (either physical power or persuasion power) and knowledge. If you're talking about results... Then, as messy as it got, the current result was probably the "best" case scenario... An outcome where Homeworld would've left the Earth alone would only be possible if Blue and Yellow had listened to Pink when she begged to leave. But no other Diamond took their time to see the life of other "inferior" beings the way that Pink did... That was only possible because Pink never had the sense of superiority that the others did. She was an annoying brat demanding a colony at the Jungle Moon but thousands of years later, she was humble enough to treat Pearl as her equal by the time she got the Earth. She even literally grew up in size! Pink was simply using Rose Quartz as an argument to try to convince Blue and Yellow that further investment wasn't worth it and that they had no choice but to leave. Sure, by all means, it's a very harsh and unlikely plan, even for a Diamond. But I think they made it pretty clear that she was been driven by rage and despair with no other options available. What else she could anyway? Not to mention that when Blue and Yellow said that "All you want to do is get rid of it". Pink wasn't telling the other Diamonds that "You should leave the Earth alone" she was saying "WE should leave the Earth alone". It's clear she REALLY wanted to have a colony, but it's clear that she LOVED the Earth MORE, but was still willing to let it go for the sake of others rather than just thinking about herself. That's not something an immature person would do. I'm not sure what else you want me to say but, by process of elimination, Pink couldn't have possibly be as immature as she was in Jungle Moon or else none of her actions make sense.
Personally, I don't think Pink's frustration had much to do with the fact that she didn't have a colony yet specifically, it was more about her wanted to be seen as an equal by her fellow diamonds Of course, she still had interest on having a colony of her own, but her anger and temper tantrums were more because of how little respect Blue and Yellow diamond had for her as another supposed authority figure
Hell they aren't even temper tantrums, they're emotional breakdowns. People acknowledge how good this show is for its handling of HBTA topics, but always seem to forget how it handles subjects like abuse and mental illness.
I don't remember pearl outright saying that she didn't know yellow pearl, just that not all pearls know eachother. She didn't say yes, but she never said no.
you know, she could be telling the truth. it's not like we ever see her interacting with those other pearls in any way. you don't 'know' someone just because you've silently stood in the same room as them once or twice
Right?! She just cleverly avoided answering because she couldn't as it would imply her being associated with Pink, and she couldn't talk about that back then
Honestly, I'm on Pink's side, not only did Pink tell Yellow and Blue directly that she did *not* want to continue colonizing the Earth, that she explained to them why (her love for the unique organic life on Earth). Pink being on her knees before Blue in the later's Palanquin goes to show how much of a power imbalance there was in place between Pink and the others. Pink was *never* an equal, and the others commissioned the human zoo to just shut her up. She would at least have had to have confessed to sneaking to the Prime Kindergarten to have been able to see the organic life on Earth up close. She had the makings of a loving, caring Diamond for Homeworld, but the others had no interest in trying to help her grow as a leader and nurture her potential, they just basically trapped her up on the moonbase with a Pearl playmate to keep her company and have her watch Blue and Yellow do all the work from a distance. That's just shit parenting, and when the Diamonds finally get to Earth and Steven tells them the truth, I hope Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl point that out and show that Rose's son who was so much like her grew up to be a better person *NOT* because Rose was a bad person, but because they could parent circles around the Diamonds!
True! Blue and Yellow Diamond Never Really Cared about those Humans! they wanted Pink to Kill as Many as she can Right Off the planet! But Pink wanted to Defend it ! ! ! ! !
I love this comment and wish they would’ve painted Pink Diamond in a better light by the end of it all. Roses VHS tape which is the first time we see this character is the finale of her character arc after all the development. Then we work backwards from there to see how she was before she became a better person. I love this character. She was the first of her kind to shatter the norms and break the cycle and when your the first at something as complicated as that (and a literal alien to it all) you are going. To make. Mistakes. She’s character development personified and it’s beautiful.
I also don't think Pink Diamond could've fought back like you mentioned... Not only Pink didn't even had a way to fight with them, but even if she did, it would've only seem all the more childish and it would just be an instant loss. The only statement that we had is that "she did everything she could as a Diamond". Which, even if that sounds vague, the crewniverse is basically covering thousands of years of historical events and character development... Of course they're going to skip most details. On the other hand, Pink, as Rose Quartz, didn't had to fight the entire armada, she just needed to make enough of a scene for Pink to convince the Diamonds that, because of the Rose Quartz, further investment in the colony wasn't worth it. Sure, by all means, that's a kind of a dumb plan, but Rose, as good as a tactician as she was claimed to be, she was never portrait to be the best planner for the long game... She WAS a good "thinker" but was always more of a "feeler". ...Not to mention that, honestly, I can't think of anything else to do in this situation if I was in her shoes... I get the feeling that this episode just showed that Pink was a much more simple character than most fans are assuming her to be. The crew seems to be trying to show that her actions were natural responses with no other alternative for her. In an attempt to convince the fans that think she was evil (like how Sapphire interpreted it) that she simply wasn't evil.
P & Jay True. You know what if the pearls were not allowed to communicate or look at each other directly as it might be a rule the diamonds had for pearls as pearls would be regarded as servants as it was an unspoken rule. I don't know I mean they followed the orders of the diamonds and are not free to speak or interact with each other. That is merely a theory.
What is more telling about Ruby's feelings is HOW she wrote sapphire.... It's like she wrote her cutesy nickname first and changed it to a more proper form to distance herself from those feelings ......
How ruby signed her name n the letter is also telling. It looks like she might've started writing the first couple letters of "Garnet" and then scratched it out realizing that shes just Ruby.
tbh i wouldnt really blamed pink diamond for changing her mind. she could of changed her mind when she was bored. she changed her mind because she saw the consequences of building a colony on earth. It would of been really overdoing it if she was pushing not to have a colony anymore if she was lazy or bored.
"she could have done more and fought back"...i mean I guess she could have but from a psychological standpoint her behavior is very natural. We've all established that Pink's relationship to Yellow and Blue is that of a daughter. Lots of children who are used to facing dismissal from their parents often develop an emotional distance from shame and maybe even fear. The fact that she calmly brought up the fact that she wanted to preserve life is actually quite mature of her....and you talked about how your parents would be mad if you suddenly changed your mind about an activity to wanted to do; well bruh, can you imagine what your parents would do if you got BOLD with it. The yells would be to the extreme and the beatings may follow. She probably just did the most that she felt she could do while still being respectful. And if you want to counter that with her tantrum from Jungle Moon, then that's a bit unfair bc that was YEARSSS before this. It's like PD from Jungle Moon is the bratty, spoilt 10 year old... And this PD is more of a young teenager, still moody and childlike but has still noticeably matured is some ways... And that is depicted by her appearance. I believe you talked about her design being changed, and seemed to think it was just a change made as a regular art improvement, but I'm fairly sure that it was meant to show that she has grown and matured since then....albeit she is still very naive, selfish and childlike, it's definitely nothing like how she was on Jungle Moon.
Exactly!! She couldn't have really done more than what she already had. Besides, most of Americas wars started out like this with negotiations and meetings that soon led to wars and rebellions
About Pearl...She did not a lie though. She answered Steven’s question by answering different and similar one. She said “Not ALL Pearls know each other”. She give avoiding answer to the question about her by generalizing it. She never said she doesn’t know Yellow Pearl. So she didn’t lie she avoided replying to Steven’s question entirely in a way it looked like she did answer and so nobody would question it later. By implying that she doesn't know Yellow Pearl but not stating it. It is interesting that both Pearl and Zoo were given to Pink by other Diamonds because that means they give them to her to humor her or maybe even shut her up so they don't have to deal with her words and opinions and behavior they created by treated her as child that knows nothing and can't do anything herself at all. Her begging on her knees showed kinda desperation on Pink's part and seriously Blue seemed unfazed by this so this goes to show how little authority and respect among diamonds Pink had. You could say she was acting like a brat but when you are shown no respect, have nothing to do and are being bushed away like Yellow did with Pink I think most people would end up behaving the way Pink did. Because when you being disrespected over and over again eventually you will be too frustrated to act 'mature'. Witch only added to Pink not being equipped to handle her role as a leader. Pink lacked a lot but nothing that proper education and structure couldn't fix before they handed her colony. And not just pushing her away and giving her things like zoo and pearl to keep her happy and quiet aka out of the way as much as possible. Do not get me Wrong nothing excuses Rose from responsibility for her actions but her childish personality and conclusions he came to didn't came out of nowhere. We talk about millennia of relationships between Diamonds and millennia of Diamond having no job and no responsibility to to do . Which means LESS to do then any other gem. Making Pink less significant to home world working even less then all Pearl around a home world. Yellow and Blue were showing her thought love to point of not recognizing her motivations and words as nothing but excuses. There was NOTHING Pink could say or do they wouldn't read that way no matter how much she was serious, honest and determined. Heck she could become the most mature of Diamonds and she still would be brushed off as incompetent child for rest of existence. That included any attempt to change ways home world goes around their subjects.
Rose was following the Crystal Gems after Garnet.... In fact Pink never was a leader as a person, She may be a diamond but from what we saw she's different. The way she followed Pearl's ideas.... The fact that she wanted to protect everyone who shared her ideology (from the first episode we saw the fountain "Rose cared so much about her friends that whenever any got hurt she cried for them... Healing tears") Makes you think that she's more of the cheer leading child in the background trying to play hero because no one else is doing so. Edit: then again that's just my point of view 😅
Ren Uuzra your probably correct in that light. When she was Rose, other gems would put her up on a pedestal and quite frankly revere her too. Even though if Pink/Rose were asked, she would admit it to herself and others that she is severely flawed.
I feel your idea of Pink diamond begging and pleading but it seems like alot of time has passed its like you grilling an 18 year old for something they did when they where 12
I don’t know; I feel like Pink Diamond getting on her knees in front of Blue Diamond and begging was less of a temper tantrum and more of an act of desperation and sincerity. She’s technically equal to them in status, and actually getting down in front of her despite that seems more like showing how much this means to her that her just throwing a fit. Instead of whiny, Pink Diamond’s expression just looks... genuine and pleading.
teddie Ohhh but noooo Pink Diamond is clearly a CHILD because the SU fandom can't make a distinction between an actual child and someone who has insecurities and frustrations.
When Pearl said Garnet made Rose want to fight for Gems, I took it as Pink realizing that there may be other Gems feeling trapped like her & she wanted the Earth to be a home for Gems who don’t fit in on Homeworld
Eh, the part about the Homeworld elites in Blue’s court is easily explained in my opinion. The amethyst and topaz gems were clearly guards and even in Garnet’s flashback to this scene it shows Pearl fighting off figures who seemed to be guards. I have to go back and look but one of the silhouettes Pearl poofed looked like an amethyst to me. It makes sense that it would be guards, who were made to fight, would be the ones to surround Pink and Pearl. The crew are most likely trying to keep a lot of those gems a secret like Slice said, but still this is reasonable.
Andre Ransom What confused me is why they were serving under Blue. Weren't the Amethysts Pink Diamond's Gems? And didn't all Amethysts and Jaspers come from Earth?
Just Another Fangirl Not really, gems don’t seem to be exclusive to one particular Diamond. In The Trial, Blue Zircon mentioned Pink’s “agates and sapphires” so really, any type of gem could be made for any Diamond, sapphires aren’t exclusive to Blue.
Jesse Anderton I do not think Lapis is an aristocratic gem. In "What's the Point of Feeling Blue?", Yellow Diamond mentions that Lapis Lazulis are used for terraforming.
so you don't get rose's mentality of the amethysts were suddenly abominations ala " we're not creating life from nothing, we're taking life away". I was sold after that realization
It is not like she suddenly hated the Amethysts themselves. She probably wouldn't mind creating more, just not on a planet and place that has life already on it.
I had a friend who gave birth to an autistic son, she originally felt very guilty about this, to her I think she blamed herself for her sons different mindedness, now make no mistake, she loves him to pieces but I think she no longer sees the pregnancy as the same purely beautiful experience it was before her son was branded autistic because of that blame she placed on herself, I think this situation is alot like that, she still loves them but the process and their being is no longer perfect atleast in her eyes.
Pearl didn't literally suggest Pink become Rose Quartz. Whenever Pink would say "can you imagine?" Pearl takes that as a literal command to "imagine" something, which is the projection she creates with her gem. So at the beginning of the episode Pink says "Can you imagine running a colony would be this dull?" pearl replied "I could imagine it if you want me to, my diamond". Then later on when Pink says "can you imagine ME down there with the Amethysts?" Pearl complies with that, perceiving it as a command to show her the image of her with the Amethysts. To Pearl the "suggestion" was just the added imagery to make this imaginative scenario work. That's why Pearl looks surprised when she ACTUALLY turns into Rose, because Pearl didn't expect that she would ACTUALLY do it
With the whole Rose and Pearl Romance, they may of been trying to imply they both loved each other but something happened on Rose's side or something between them that changed that. I don't know if they would almost fuse if Rose was being completely obivious to how pearl felt.
2000wires gamming i dont think anything changed. I truly believe that Rose always loved Pearl, the problem was that she also loved the humans she dated. Rose wanted an open relationship, while Pearl wasnt comfortable with this because she is monogamous and wanted Rose to herself. The problem wasnt that their love was one-sided, but that Pearl failed to communicate with Rose how she really felt about their open relationship. I think the idea of of Rose being polyamorous fits her character pretty well, and it wouldnt be so weird to have a polyamorous character considering that fluorite exists
I think Rose just loved her but didn't know how, she never knew what "being in love" was until Greg and honestly she didn't even have choices to think otherwise when she only had Pearl because she was her only friend/person that talked to her normally or like at all. But then humans happened and choices and stuff so Rose got over it because Pearl wasn't what she wanted, she was just all there was.
+Ninjamist I never said that, try to pay attention to what I'm trying to say. I've only stated it's a possibility that there may of been romance between the two at some point. That seems to be what the show is trying to imply anyways.
she wasn't throwing temper tantrums, never once in those flashbacks did we see her stomping her feet like a child. and yellow and blue have already been shown to not see pink on the same level as them either because of her small stature or because shes a younger diamond. shes frustrated that they /never/ took her seriously. she was probably on her knees out of desperation i mean hell, if you were trying to stop a mass extinction of something, wouldnt you get on your knees to to plead with whoever was in charge? pink was the only one who saw the true beauty of earth for what it was and was desperately trying to stop the invasion. and yes while she wanted a colony in jungle moon, if you were to learn the truth about what was really going on behind the scenes of something you wanted oh-so-badly to do (this can apply to many things like corruption is sports teams and such), you probably wouldn't find joy in it anymore and might want to drop it entirely, and thats what happened with pink, she became aware of the reality of the situation and was disturbed by it, and wanted nothing more to do with it.
Acidic Nitram Slice Of Otaku is referring to the Stevonnie dream which is assumed to be basically a flashback just with Stevonnie replacing Pink's role. We did see the shattered glass in reality so it's safe to assume that the depiction of Pink's temper tantrum at that time is what really happened in the past.
just because someone gets upset and shows it physically doesn't mean they're throwing a tantrum, she could have been frustrated by the fact that no one takes her seriously even though she's supposed to be an equal to the other diamonds, and she /knows/ shes supposed to be equal. not everyone shows anger in the same way, and it just so happens pink shows her frustration through body language.
Ok but that was litterally a temper tantrum. Yeah, I agree that she was upset because she wasn't taken seriously but she litterally said in the most childish way possible: "I want my own colony I want my own planet I want it NOW" as she was stomping her feet on the ground
Stomping your feet and hitting the walls are definitely signs of a temper tantrum. Being upset and frustrated is expected, showing it physically with grit teeth, clenched fists and such, is acceptable. But she was not in control of herself in any way, that is a temper tantrum.
A better analogy for Pink's pleading would be. If a child begged to be allowed to go camping. And after much whining you get her the equipment. What she didn't know was that it included a rifle for hunting and a chainsaw for clearing trees. Now the child begs not to destroy life or the environment. But is told finish what you start. Pleads to spare the life here. And is given a garden and a zoo. That's what Pink Diamond faced. She wasn't being a child but saw life where the Diamonds saw a parking lot. They gave the planet to her but dictated how it was to be used. Pink saw this refusal to grant her desires to save earth as not caring. She didn't know the Diamonds loved her. She thought that her death would be "Oh well so much for Pink, what's for lunch" She didn't know that the Diamonds would be so grief-stricken they would throw down a horrible vengeance on all Gems involved. Pink's fatal mistake was underestimating the Diamonds love.
If you think about it pearl and roses relationship is kind of a parrell of connie and stevens relationship. Both pearl and Connie are the more mature one in there relationship and want to fight for the other and both steven and rose are potrayed as kids finding out reality and what they make of it and that there parental figure/figures arn't as good as they thought they were
I feel like Pink was a rebellious, free spirit child with clueless parents who want things done their way. The result was... Well... Not great. Did Pink ever learn her lesson? No... Steven is assimilating all the lessons she SHOULD have learned but to be fair Steven had better "parents" and family.
Amanda Troutman I always saw Pink as an inexperienced, naive and immature child. But the key word for me is inexperienced. She loves humans since they can change and love but... Humans aren't always like that. There are humans who can be as cruel and cold as a diamond. There are humans that are like Pearls or make Pearls themselves. Humans can be selfish and terrible. Has Pink never seen that in those thousand of years? It makes it seem like she doesn't know everything about humans and just knows one side of them.
Steven himself is Acutally kinda flawed. He literally can't except that sometimes violence is the only answer. Hes also very child like(well...he is a child or teenager) in that he battles that reality
Maxwell Seltzer Its that type of character flaw that leads to a batman/joker conundrum. Choosing to be nonviolent when your enemy is very violent and is killing many in the process Is madness. People are suffering from your inaction. People are DYING from your inaction. A hero that is unable to swallow thier ego and get thier hands dirty when those in danger need it most. Is not a hero at all. The reason heros are heros is because they made a choice. A willingness to sacrifice themselves. Whether that sacrifice includes thier physical well being and or death. Or simply the sacrifice of thier personal peace of mind and forced to wrangle with thier demons from the actions they took to save others
One has to wonder why Blue and Yellow Diamonds decided to entrust the development of one of the most important Gem colonies in their empire...I say this because of Peridot's enthusiastic praise for the project in ICHBG...to the last and least of the Diamonds, in her maiden debut. Whatever the reason, and whether Pink realized it at the time, events would show that Earth wasn't regarded as her personal playtoy by her sister Diamonds. Her scope of action was limited, and Blue and Yellow were always prepared to take over Gem operations on Earth, leaving Pink a mere cipher to wave encouragement.
i think it’s like an interpretation thing with the topaz & amethyst soldiers. like how the image of pearl with the sword is completely different between garnet & pearl telling it. maybe pearl remembers a bunch of soldiers bc she felt intimidated
Ofcourse soldier gems are the ones whos after them.... Like wut you said aristocratic gems wasn't meant to fight, so why surround the leader of the rebellion and her pearl if you can't fight back.... And duude they're aristocrats of course they also have guards like how sapphire has rubys
If Pink just told Blue and Yellow "no" and stood her ground, theyd have taken Earth from her. Her only option than would be a rebellion as Pink and she'd have no support bc everyone who would have supported a rebellion would hate her and mistrust her for being a diamond.
zaphires are probably almost as rare as diamonds they probably wouldnt need more than a few or a single one per diamond, even pink didnt seem to have one i'm guessing Padparacha would have been her's if she came out right
as gar as they were concerned there was no genocide. like most humans think little or nothing of killing spiders and ants(and certainly wouldn't go out of their way to make sure all of them were evacuated before demolishing a house) gems likely think little or nothing of killing organics
therealmanos I wonder... do you feel the same empathy pink did for humans to the wildlife that was killed and displaced to create your living space and modern conveniences? How about a spider that finds it way into your home? Do you marvel at the wonder of life that has come before you?
Pearl didn't really lie about knowing Yellow Pearl. She simply danced around the truth by insinuating that Steven shouldn't assume that all Gems of the same type know each other, which is true.
6:00 Okay but I think that it makes sense for the aristocrats to evacuate while the soldiers confront rose and pearl, I don't think that's far fetched at all.
Dude, you realize this is through Steven's perspective. In the episode, "The Answer" Steven didn't even know what the gems on Homeworld looked like. So they could just showing Topazes and Amethyst Gems because those were some of the gems Steven actually saw after The Answer. And I just have to say you've been extremely nitpicky since the Pink Diamond Reveal. And I'm not say you can say the issues you have, but this crap nitpicky as hell, you really complaining because there was just Amethyst and Topaz. My god. XD
Bickslow'sLover Harlequin Steven Did see Blue pearl when Blue Diamond kidnapped Greg. Blue Pearl was the one that heard Steven and Greg in the Bushes and she was the one to walk Greg towards pink diamond when he revealed himself.
The Answer's flashback depicts Blue Diamond's palanquin, which wasn't mentioned. It showed the presence of Blue Pearl, who wasn't mentioned. Unless a correction is made immediately, such as in An Indirect Kiss and Buddy's Book, it's assumed that a flashback is an accurate account. Almost all of what Garnet related in Your Mother and Mine wasn't a flashback of something she'd experienced personally, so it was drawn stylistically.
Technically Pearl didn't lie about not knowing Yellow and Blue Pearls. She didn't say no. She only said "not all Pearls know each other, Steven." She basically didn't answer the question, just stated a non-related fact, albeit one that could easily be misinterpreted as an actual answer
What if Rubies were such low foot soldiers that they weren't even programmed with gem writing, so our ruby wrote in english because she learned it as garnet while in beach city
Hold on Slice, 2 things 1) In Part 1, Were all the Famethysts in the same section of the Kindergarden, cause it's pretty big, and we did see some amethysts walk to someplace, so some of them could have left offscreen 2) On the Stadium with the Amethysts and Topez, isn't it likely that they could have been bodyguards for the nobles gems and Blue Diamond, because I don't remember in the episode that it was only those two with Blue Diamond. PLEASE CHECK IF I'M REMEMBERING INCORRECTLY.
Cat Cuty ღ I would agree but pearl has stated that gems know many languages (given that they speak and understand English) as well as writing in English as well.
There may be more to this story. Blue and Yellow diamonds did keep secrets so maybe Pink Diamond Didn't even know gems could power stuff. and there for Pearl may have not known either meaning The Lapis situation is just a misunderstanding which is a VERY common theme
I think your interpreting Rose's inspiration from Garnet wrong. Rose cared about gems but she didn't like what she or the diamonds were doing to Earth, so her ONLY goal was to liberate Earth. What Garnet showed Rose was just how oppressive Homeworld is to gems and that gems can be much more than what they were made for. Her goal then shifted to protecting gems AND protecting Earth from the oppressive Homeworld.
Also as far as Rose and Pearl being surrounded by soldiers and not aristocratic gems I'd just like to say that those types of non quartz gems are probably still there it just makes sense that they wouldn't attempt to capture Rose and Pearl thus they wouldn't surround them. The Rubies were Sapphire's bodyguards and attacked first seeing that the target was sapphire, but the Topaz and Amethyst could have been protecting the area, were bodyguards for the other high-class gems, or protecting Blue Diamond and attacked later. Honestly I'd hope other quartz soldiers were in the area outside of Ruby, I mean there was a diamond and lots of high ranking gems standing around the same area during a rebellion.
Just cuz there's soldiers surrounding them, doesn't mean there isn't fancy other gems there. Who would want to approach the dangerous duo when your not made for fighting
I think part of what you need to remember is that Rose, as a diamond, was still essentially a child. She's not gunna be the most rational or logical gem out there. She's seeing new things that she never thought existed, she's super excited about it, she's just got all these ideas and she doesn't really know how to go about them without being super clumsy.
We have multiple stories from multiple people, and as eye witness accounts are typically inaccurate, I think the issue with the different gems in that one scene are on that. I mean, how Pearl approaches Garnet in that is different for both of them, so...
I dont know if we can say that it was right for the diamonds to look at Pink as a child for throwing tantrums when we have only seen her do it once, in a flashback, which took place several thousand years before this flashback.
jeez i hope sapphire and ruby still have resentment for pink diamond. theres no way thousands of years of conflict is resolved in 10 minutes from story time with pearl
They may still be angry with her about the corruption but she tried to do that s what the proper of the crystal gem when the war was over find the corrupted gems and try to help them
Another point: how did none of the Diamonds ever guess that Rose was actually Pink Diamond, when Pink's Pearl was with her the whole time? And it was just the two of them? Where did all of the other bubbled Rose Quartz Gems in the Zoo come from?
In your video you say garnet isn’t the 1st but she is! She literally is! double check your lore. garnet is the 1st fusion between 2 different gems. garenet is the metaphor for the pursuit for love and happiness and how difficult and confusing the path is. So it makes sense rose is so moved and inspired to fight for gems and there own paths for true happiness.
These people defending Pink Diamond are kind of onesided. Same thing to the extreme people hating her. I mean, she is just a morally gray character or what I like to call a chaotic neutral and not some goddes that people potray her as. Yes, she fought for the Earth and (maybe) for the freedom of gems but is that an excuse for letting thousands of lives go to waste and so much trauma happen to many gems for somebody who wasn't real? She could have made a rebellion AS a diamond or fought this rationally with Blue and Yellow such as having her court debate with the others to get a good compromise. Or maybe even just leave the Diamond Authority with her court and make them have the ability to be free on Earth. You could say that they would have just followed her blindly because that is their order but hey, less gems die.
Okay, you had me completely on part one. But, there's just way too much negativity in part two. And trust me, I am no fan of Rose Quartz / Pink Diamond as a leader. But, it is clearly shown that Rose Quartz was attempting to protect earth without hurting her fellow Gems. Whether they were crystal gems or home world gems. You even stated yourself that she did not shatter gems when she fought them, she simply poofed them. Bismuth even explains that Rose Quartz would not use the breaking point to shatter gems. Clearly, RQ was trying to protect both sides the best she could, even though she was being selfish. She acted the way she did in an attempt to save earth because on homeworld there are hardly any emotions, or deep thinking. Gems are created with certain mentalities and ideas. So, considering she is a diamond, it's no surprise she has an all-or-nothing mentality. You said it yourself "a different form of homeworld". Well, yea... It's no surprise that Pink Diamond used the only tactic she was raised/born to know.
2 Videos In 1 Day? You’re the best SliceOfOtaku!❤️ It may not seem like it took that much time to edit the last 2 videos but I imagine it takes some time to finish.
Quite honestly, it was unexpected to see pink talk about how she wished she could be 'normal' In a way. She wanted to see what it was like to be with other gems besides blue and yellow diamond. But all in all it was a great episode, even if it was rushed a little
I'm pretty sure they were trying to imply that Rose was wanting to fight for Gem individuality, not just gem-kind itself. Garnet was different and new, and Rose didn't want her to feel wrong for not fitting into what Homeworld considered to be 'normal' or 'right'. Even Bismuth made a point to say that Rose was showing Gems that they could be more than what they were made for. Rose sold the to-be Crystal Gems dreams of individuality & a beautiful new home away from the oppression of Diamonds. I'm surprised you didn't catch this, my dude.
1:00 but swaggy if my child tried for sports and realized others were getting seriously hurt id pull em out or start a petition for safer play parents do that pink turned around bc of the serverity of the situation it wasnt like pink saw only a butterfly and decided to ebd the colonization she realized races were at stake genocide so resources or not its a serious situation
Maybe the inconsistencies with the gem types surrounding RQ and pearl are because this story is from pearl’s perspective. Maybe it’s more dramatic to remember/depict those enemy gems as warriors rather than aristocrats. Idk.
Yesssssss part 2!!!!!! First the new su episodes this whole week! But it just is an amazing cherry on top to have these videos to binge as well!! Thank you for posting for us!!!!
I think Rose reciprocated Pearl's feelings but a) she stopped because that happens in relationships, they were together for millenia and feelings can fade b) Rose was polyamorous and thought she could be with both of them at the same time c) Rose thought Pearl's worship of her would stop but it didn;t and having a relationship built on one person idolising the other and using them as an emotional crutch is really bad
When Rose and Pearl appeared in the midst of Blue Diamond's court, it looked like almost all of the Gems in the vicinity except for the four Quartz/Agate guards and the Ruby squad, were non-warrior-types one would expect to find as courtiers. They were definitely not hulking Topaz or Amethyst warriors, as that would have been too plain a danger for Rose and Pearl to ignore in their attempt to get Sapphire...the presumed beauty of Blue Diamond's/Sapphire's plan was that "ordinary" Gems would stand their ground and not scatter as expected, to then rush in and overwhelm Rose and Pearl by their numbers before the rebels could react. Even Blue Diamond's personal guards and the Rubies weren't informed of the plan, so that their defense was all the more convincing that there was no trap. Alas, the signal to do so was in all probability Sapphire's poofing, which never came. I suspect the shot in NWOFA was simply a retcon meant to display representatives of Gem species that were unknown or poorly understood prior to season 4. I could wank it away somewhat by saying that they were present in The Answer but shapeshifted to look like courtiers.
Hoo boy... this whole story is bloody weird, I think Steven and Sapphire were just trying to break that weird tension... cause what else can you say to that?
So quick describes this PERFECTLY for me as well, when it ended I was like WHY!! NO! How is it already over!! I have to wait until tomorrow!! It felt like 5 minutes but I did really enjoy the episode and am SO hyped for today’s
unfortunately you still sound extremely salty that pink diamond is rose quartz. its told in a way that makes it seem like rose just changed her mind, but it's the *reason* she changed her mind. it's because she saw the life there.
Nice seeing a vid from you Slice. I agree this epi seemed really fast paced but overall I really enjoyed it. Plus, yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a minor gripe about not seeing more aristocratic gems in "the answer" scene in this episode.
Pearl's blush has *evolved* She's still adorable
Retrobo ITS THE ANIME BLUSH!!
It was adorable when she picked Rose up and tried to fuse.
Pearl is best girl! PD did not deserve her😭
One thing that I disagree in the video...
Actually, a lot of humans thought babies felt no pain.
on the whole pearl bit; not "can't do" more "only should do when asked"
You're right. Imma change that right away!
Honestly, I feel like this story is partly about Pink Diamond maturing... and that's she's more in the process. Pink Diamonds behavior and situation makes me think of when children know or face a reality that the adults do not, and feel helpless and desparate as a result.
Henrique Kenzo but she didnt tho, if she matured. She would stage a better rebellion.
Personally, I don't think Pink's frustration had much to do with the fact that she didn't have a colony yet specifically, it was more about her wanted to be seen as an equal by her fellow diamonds
Of course, she still had interest on having a colony of her own, but her anger and temper tantrums were more because of how little respect Blue and Yellow diamond had for her as another supposed authority figure
Yup!
35th like
Thankyou!
Hell they aren't even temper tantrums, they're emotional breakdowns. People acknowledge how good this show is for its handling of HBTA topics, but always seem to forget how it handles subjects like abuse and mental illness.
The Boobfather Thank You and agreed
I don't remember pearl outright saying that she didn't know yellow pearl, just that not all pearls know eachother. She didn't say yes, but she never said no.
Kiwi Plays Games That's the beauty of it she didn't lie directly but she redirected because it would raise too many questions at the time
Kiwi Plays Games
She was dodging the question
Kiwi Plays Games i love you profile pic
you know, she could be telling the truth. it's not like we ever see her interacting with those other pearls in any way. you don't 'know' someone just because you've silently stood in the same room as them once or twice
Notice how at 3:37 Blue Diamond doesn’t have dark circles under her eyes. I’m guessing it’s because she’s not crying all the time and being depressed.
King Millo yep
King Millo XP
Well of course not. Pink hadn't been "shattered" yet. Nice attention to detail from the crewniverse.
Yep, i love the detail
King Millo she seems more like Yellow b4 Pink got "shattered"
Pearl didn't say no. All she said was "Not all Pearls know each other." Which in fact is true.
It's like she wrote her cutesy nickname first and changed it to a more proper form to distance herself from those feelings ......
spriken I'm not crying, I'm just sweating through my eyes
And here I just thought she ran out of space XD
i am wondering if the paper is folded though and that is not sapphire but sapphire + another word on the second line
Andre Ransom
What confused me is why they were serving under Blue. Weren't the Amethysts Pink Diamond's Gems? And didn't all Amethysts and Jaspers come from Earth?
Just Another Fangirl Not really, gems don’t seem to be exclusive to one particular Diamond. In The Trial, Blue Zircon mentioned Pink’s “agates and sapphires” so really, any type of gem could be made for any Diamond, sapphires aren’t exclusive to Blue.
.
Just Another Fangirl also holly blue says about the famethyst that "they're from earth" so there had to be more
Jesse Anderton I do not think Lapis is an aristocratic gem.
Blue Zircon: "Where were Pink Diamond's attendants? Her Agates? Her Sapphires?
And where was her PEARL?"
Blue+Yellow pearls: 😱😯
Okay...that Batman comparison had me rolling. 😂 good one Slice.
Pearl is Pink's Pearl her function is to serve Pink. Of course Pearl would never say anything negative.
I think Rose loved her very much, just not romantically
Rue the Weenie yeah cause if fusion only romantic love then why would steven be able to fuse with amethyst?
He was reffering to Jungle Moon
just because someone gets upset and shows it physically doesn't mean they're throwing a tantrum, she could have been frustrated by the fact that no one takes her seriously even though she's supposed to be an equal to the other diamonds, and she /knows/ shes supposed to be equal. not everyone shows anger in the same way, and it just so happens pink shows her frustration through body language.
Ok but that was litterally a temper tantrum. Yeah, I agree that she was upset because she wasn't taken seriously but she litterally said in the most childish way possible:
"I want my own colony
I want my own planet
I want it NOW" as she was stomping her feet on the ground
Amanda Troutman
I always saw Pink as an inexperienced, naive and immature child.
Brian brush honestly the best character flaw to have in my opinion.
Maxwell Seltzer I was responding to the claim steven was more mature then her despite pink knowing she had to get her hands dirty
Her only option than would be a rebellion as Pink and she'd have no support bc everyone who would have supported a rebellion would hate her and mistrust her for being a diamond.
zaphires are probably almost as rare as diamonds they probably wouldnt need more than a few or a single one per diamond, even pink didnt seem to have one i'm guessing Padparacha would have been her's if she came out right
About the "Not all Pearls know each other, Steven." Thing, I think she was just trying to prove a point.
The Diamonds wanted Pink to finish the genocide. Yeah...it's hard to find sympathy for their position.
as gar as they were concerned there was no genocide. like most humans think little or nothing of killing spiders and ants(and certainly wouldn't go out of their way to make sure all of them were evacuated before demolishing a house) gems likely think little or nothing of killing organics
therealmanos I wonder... do you feel the same empathy pink did for humans to the wildlife that was killed and displaced to create your living space and modern conveniences? How about a spider that finds it way into your home? Do you marvel at the wonder of life that has come before you?
"cuz she's been creating pearl and rose fanfictions in her head" BOI
She never said she didn't know them, she just insinuated it.
My god. XD
That's really interesting! I didn't think of that! Also, probably he didn't want to put Lapis in there because he think of her as a friend.
D.U. But he didn't know what Blue Pearl looked like, and they showed what she looks like
Bickslow'sLover Harlequin Good Point
Most of what you said is EXACTLY what I was thinking....that is the main reason I subscribed.....You Rock
Raquel Plumpp Rose did truly love Pearl. She was just not monogamous and loved humans AND Pearl
Pearl *never* said she didn't know Yellow Pearl. She deflected the question. She did not lie.
Pearl just said “not all Pearl’s know each other” so technically she didn’t lie, she just shot down Steven’s racism
Slice: “Since Steven’s entire existence is a counter-argument to that.”
Me: Dying
What if Rubies were such low foot soldiers that they weren't even programmed with gem writing, so our ruby wrote in english because she learned it as garnet while in beach city
Hold on Slice, 2 things
1) In Part 1, Were all the Famethysts in the same section of the Kindergarden, cause it's pretty big, and we did see some amethysts walk to someplace, so some of them could have left offscreen
2) On the Stadium with the Amethysts and Topez, isn't it likely that they could have been bodyguards for the nobles gems and Blue Diamond, because I don't remember in the episode that it was only those two with Blue Diamond.
PLEASE CHECK IF I'M REMEMBERING INCORRECTLY.
Maybe Ruby left her note in english thinking they might not get Sapphire so if Steven finds it he can read and show her
Cat Cuty ღ I think that would be super cool
That makes sense
Cat Cuty ღ I would agree but pearl has stated that gems know many languages (given that they speak and understand English) as well as writing in English as well.
Hamilton McCauley
i know that but i think ruby used english because all of them can understand and not just gems
The Answer showed a couple of Quartz soldiers fighting Pearl.
Yo these are some nice ass thumbnails
Just cuz there's soldiers surrounding them, doesn't mean there isn't fancy other gems there. Who would want to approach the dangerous duo when your not made for fighting
Dude garnet made rose/pink care for gems freedom
BEEN WAITING SINCE PART 1!!!!
Ren Uuzra SAME
xD
Ren Uuzra
Same
Me too
I think part of what you need to remember is that Rose, as a diamond, was still essentially a child.
They may still be angry with her about the corruption but she tried to do that s what the proper of the crystal gem when the war was over find the corrupted gems and try to help them
I just realized when Steven asked pearl is she know yellow pearl she looked the other way as she spoke 🤐
I swear Papa Slice and I be having the same thought process when it comes to Steven Universe and I love it 💜
Another point: how did none of the Diamonds ever guess that Rose was actually Pink Diamond, when Pink's Pearl was with her the whole time?
I think the Amethsyts and the topazes are to prefect Blue and the rubies for sapphire
But all in all it was a great episode, even if it was rushed a little
You are the only SU blogger I care about. Thank you for sharing your well-researched opinions and theories.
*HOLY MOLY, TWO VIDEOS?! IN ONE DAY!? HOLY MOTHER OF PERIDOT.*
I'm surprised you didn't catch this, my dude.
pearl and rose fanfic
damn pearl is so relatable
3:10 I thought no one was going to talk about our pearl standing with both yellow and blue pearl
New video from slice?
CLICKS MADLY
who else loves Pearls adorable blush through that Ep tho
You can see pink is more mature then she was in jungle moon because of her hair. Her hair isn’t the same in jungle moon.
5:30 i think that aristocrate was there too but for example topases and amethists just came after they called them.
DAIM I'm getting chubby from all of this info, I'm not used to you feeding us this much in one day!
Lmao you’re overthinking
Rose=Batman
Here comes a thought! When Rose was in the kindergarten, the last amethyst to emerge was the Crystal Gem Amethyst. Steven's Amethyst.
Oooooooh whaaaaaat!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!
When the Amethysts were called away, they specifically said that one Amethyst hadn't emerged yet and that it was 8XM, aka Crystal Gem Amethyst.
Not all pearls know each other
Maybe the inconsistencies with the gem types surrounding RQ and pearl are because this story is from pearl’s perspective. Maybe it’s more dramatic to remember/depict those enemy gems as warriors rather than aristocrats. Idk.
Thank you for making 2 videos today!!! It takes work and it's appreciated. Gracias! Thank you! I'm excited for your videos for this week ;).
Yesssssss part 2!!!!!! First the new su episodes this whole week! But it just is an amazing cherry on top to have these videos to binge as well!! Thank you for posting for us!!!!
Yay part 2
I think Rose reciprocated Pearl's feelings but
a) she stopped because that happens in relationships, they were together for millenia and feelings can fade
b) Rose was polyamorous and thought she could be with both of them at the same time
c) Rose thought Pearl's worship of her would stop but it didn;t and having a relationship built on one person idolising the other and using them as an emotional crutch is really bad
Zone Doll Rose was just not monogamous and loved humans AND Pearl
Topaz was the first gem to not have their gem cover the fact that they don’t have ears
I’m excited for these type of episodes ♥︎✨
I actually like how the makers made blue diomond amethysts more of a blue shade like what they did with yellow and blue jade.
Pearl and Rose are so cute
I loved the episode ^^
Also in the credits there's going to be zombie characters of some sort which is very interesting
Hoo boy... this whole story is bloody weird, I think Steven and Sapphire were just trying to break that weird tension... cause what else can you say to that?
So...
pearl is pink pearl now??
Not "pink" pearl but Pink's Pearl.
Thank you omg i needed this
2 videos? 1 day! I don’t think anything could spoil this for me!
Mr Leg 😂
So quick describes this PERFECTLY for me as well, when it ended I was like WHY!! NO! How is it already over!! I have to wait until tomorrow!! It felt like 5 minutes but I did really enjoy the episode and am SO hyped for today’s
I see Peridot finally figured out her shapeshifting powers but I gotta say they seem a bit fishy
unfortunately you still sound extremely salty that pink diamond is rose quartz. its told in a way that makes it seem like rose just changed her mind, but it's the *reason* she changed her mind. it's because she saw the life there.
Nice seeing a vid from you Slice. I agree this epi seemed really fast paced but overall I really enjoyed it. Plus, yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a minor gripe about not seeing more aristocratic gems in "the answer" scene in this episode.
So many butthurts lmao
People remeber none of this characters exist, calm down, we still have more episodes to fill in the gaps.
