The tracking is very bad on this episode. I have posted it in case anyone wants to follow what they can from the story. Here’s the synopsis as well: John Trevelyan starts an affair with Maddie Brogan, who used to work at the factory but had left to better herself. It seems she had become a call girl but when John shows interest, she hopes that she might have a future with John in Tamarack. John pays for her room at a boarding house, visits her there regularly but makes it clear to Maddie that they have no future beyond that. A fire breaks out in the factory, and workers have trouble escaping because John had insisted the back door be locked (to stop workers sneaking out to smoke), and the windows have been sealed shut. Likewise, the fire brigade struggles to beat the fire but manage to get everyone out; albeit with some injuries to workers. The fire travels over to the rooming house, where Maddie appears to be asleep on the bed. Edgar rushes in, carries her out but realizes she has died. At the coroner’s inquest, Edgar Sturgess gives evidence and admits that there had been no safety inspection at the factory for quite some time. He also agrees with the assessment that the back door and windows prevented exit. He mentions that there was a bottle of liquor and a medicine bottle on the dresser in Maddie’s room, intimating he was unsure what had caused her death. Mrs Curtis, the landlady of the rooming house, gave evidence that despite the bottles found, Maddie was lonely and whatever misfortune overcame her, that it was the fault of John for leading her on. After deliberations, the coroner rules that Maddie’s death was due to misadventure. James Sturgess visits John to recommend a fund be set up for the factory workers who are now without a job. John tells him that he has no interest in rebuilding the factory and intends to leave Tamarack. He knows that the children, especially Clement, despise him, as do most everyone else in town, and there’s nothing to keep him there anymore. Before leaving, John goes to Edgar and Sheila letting them know as well, and that he would not be taking the children with him. Edgar and Sheila decide that the three children will come and live with them. While they help Jane, Clement and Johnathon pack, a letter arrives from Clara Sturgess telling them that she is well again and returning to Tamarack.
