One of my favorite Dylan stories is one time Peter Grant, the manager of Led Zeppelin, saw Dylan backstage at a concert, and he became a star struck teenager. He went up to him, shook his hand, said something like it’s such an honor to meet you, I’m Led Zeppelin’s manager, and Dylan said hey man I don’t wanna hear your problems and walked away
Im an old guy who was around when this stunning album was released and I've never heard, or read, a better, more incisive, heartfelt review than this one. Thank you!
Lou---wonder if Abigail is familiar with NRBQ? While I am probably older than you, I am not expert on NRBQ, but enough to know there was a recording of theirs I absolutely loved: Someday My Prince Will Come with Skeeter Davis(RIP) on vocal.
NRBQ Tapdancin' Bats (1983) is a wonderful album. The reference to them doing Someday reminded me that on the equally wonderful but for different reasons, 1988 album, "Stay Awake, Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films", they did, Whistle While You Work and Sinead OConnor did Someday My Prince Will Come! Bonnie Raitt's career was arguably revived by the success of her Baby Mine on that same album (working with Don Was). Abigail, your work always brings me joy!
Best wishes to every vinyl fan here. Merry christmas and a happy new year. May we get more Dylan albums next year (John Wesley Harding perhaps). Also, thanks Abby's dad
Honestly, Abigail, I’ve never heard anybody as accessible and insightful as you are dishing on Dylan theme, just really outstanding, it doesn’t matter which icon you focus upon, you’re so good! And I speak as (basically) a first generation Dylan fan, I was listening to my older brother’s ‘66 issues of blonde back in the 60s when I was a tiny kid.
it is strangely sad to be reaching the end of 2023. spring of this year was when i started watching vm and you can't know abby how much it feels like a significant journey for us too. again, strange. shelf building dad we are all thankful.
Was home with my record collection when you posted this and played blonde on blonde for the first time. Fell in love with it and brought it back to school with me, been listening so so so much since then and Visions of Johanna wound up finally waking something up in me - I was very much set on never settling down because of particularly difficult things with the last time I tried to; Visions of Johanna made me not just feel ready to, but want to again. Excited where this takes me
the last time i dropped acid, i was at altamont in 1969. the end of the sixties hurt me more than i thought possible. i really appreciate your aesthetic; you would have fit right in.
This is the greatest album in the history of modern/popular music. Other than that, I really love it and have loved it for 57 years. Here's to a happy and healthy new year to you, Abby.
Thank you Abby for your brilliant content and for being the best thing on youtube. You seem to know intuitively that part of being a vinyl addict is knowing the backstory for the songs, the production, and the atmosphere surrounding the writing (this is also what made Rolling Stone reviews so essential), and you listen carefully enough to suggest interpretations that make sense. Have an amazing Christmas and heck why don't you take the rest of the year off!
That was my old copy and its great it helps Abby`s fine channel. I had upgraded to a really superb mono copy (I have a stereo copy as well) and thus could send my `old` one to Abby. It seems, that Mono copies with the `Claudia` photo are extremely rare in the U.S, from what Abby stated in her most informative previous `Blonde on Blonde` Vinyl Monday video. In the U.K they are nowhere as rare for some reason - so I am glad I could help. I promised Abby more original UK albums in January 2024, and I already have Four to go. These will be posted by registered and insured air mail First class on 7th January once U.K Christmas post `bottleneck` eases. I am pretty sure Abby will really enjoy all Four.
Wow! What a generous spirit you are! I was going to post my appreciation to who it was here that sent her this mono Blonde On Blonde and here you are. Acts of kind generosity are such a nice thing to see. Cheers
@@carlodelysid Thank you. Just glad to help Abby`s channel. Now, can any U.S folk here tell me please? Is a Mono U.S copy of `Blonde on Blonde` containing the `Claudia` photo really that rare? I ask, because U.K mono ones with the photo are not that uncommon at all.
I was in LA at the time, fresh out of college working as a camp counselor. An awesome, quirky teenage summer camp student who must have been 13-14 at the time, and from switzerland of all places, introduced me to this album & Dylan. Been a fan ever since!!
First timer, the algorithm sent me here. This is the album where I got Dylan, to that end I wasn't sold til you got past the minutiae and opened up using anecdotes and your personal responses to the music. I Want You is the one that stays with me. Nice work, subscribed.
Merry Christmas Abby and a vinyl New Year, best thing that happened this year was you popping up on my UA-cam list, and after just one listen I was hooked & subscribed....
Great album choice, great review, and great shelves (thanks Abby’s dad!). I usually re-listen to the album before watching your video, and that makes for a fun couple of hours. Thanks for doing such a good job.
Terrific review, as usual, Abby. I appreciate your enthusiasm, humor, and love for the music of the "classic rock" era. 'Blonde on Blonde' was the first Dylan album that I bought (way back in 1966), and it has remained my favorite Dylan album, to this day. (However, 'Blood on the Tracks' is a close second.) Thanks for all the work you do!
Merry Christmas Abigail! Thanks so much for the gift of your perspective. I'm not much of a 'hey let's randomly try this artist or album' kinda guy but I'm getting better because of you. I'm able to absorb your take and head off in that direction to see what sticks in my ears. Finding your channel has given me that. See you next year!
“Visions of Johanna” is definitely not about a single person, especially Joan fucking Baez! It’s Dylan’s spiritual Beat masterpiece. Johanna is the muse and Luise is carnal reality. The song is a surrealistic seance.
Abby- you are the BOB DYLAN of UA-cam and music reviewers!!! I so look forward to your work in the coming year. With much gratitude! (Positively 4th Street- my favorite!)
According to everything I am seeing online SARA DYLAN is still alive at 84. I never heard anything about her passing when you mentioned that so I checked…SUZE ROTOLO did pass away a few years ago. Anyway I enjoyed this 2nd video on the album. I believe SOONER OR LATER is the only song NOT done in Nashville, it was recorded in NY before they went there. The incredible piano on there is played by Paul Griffin..Al Kooper is on organ, I heard an interview where Al said he could barely play he was so blown away by GRIFFINS performance. In Nashville PIG ROBBINS played piano on the songs. Thanks😁
My brother had this album when I was 10. I didn’t know who Bob Dylan was. But I kept playing Stuck Inside A Mobile over and over. Thanks for the Love you gave on this❤
The Hawks with a constantly changing lineup had been the backing band of Canadian Rock'n'Roller Ronnie Hawkins until 1964 when they departed from Hawkins in a dispute over money and other things. In 1965 they have been a touring band for Dylan.
This album is the reason Bob Dylan was number 2 on my spotify wrapped (no.1 bring The Beatles ofc 😏), cause it’s the only album I have downloaded on spotify and is the perfect runtime length for when i’m commuting to work. I became soooo obsessed with it, I know the tracklist by heart! I literally fell in love with Bob Dylan’s music cause of this album
Blonde on Blonde is probably my favorite Dylan album. I was so excited to get it on cassette last winter, right before my last semester of college. I know it seems you like to focus on particular aesthetics of music and record collecting and such, but I'd love to recommend the works of Phil Ochs, Bob Dylans playful rival. It's not a video suggestion or anything, I just suggest him as a quick listen. Love seeing people of our generation keep this stuff alive!
I remember listening to that song that went "EEEVERYBODY MUST GET STONED" while in the care going home from whatever we were doing. I was a kid back then. I have a Herman's Hermits hits album? With one song worn out from the grooves. I had not checked the record yet when I got it till I came home.
Your take on the “wild thin mercury sound” is thoughtful and appreciated. That is the type of engagement with the ideas that makes great criticism. Great depth to the whole thing.
From Bring it All Back Home to Blonde On Blonde is Dylan's best work, at least in my opinion. Abby, you are the coolest, I really enjoy and appreciate what you do and hope you have a great holiday!
This remains my favorite Dylan album despite the first song which I despise 'n skip nearly every time. I have more comments to espouse but rather than repeat I'll direct anyone who's interested to yer first review o' Blonde On Blonde way back when then.
Dylan also had a role in the Sam Peckinpah movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and he apparently wrote Knockin on Heaven’s Door for it. When Peckinpah met Dylan he said yeah I heard your music, you’re not so great, I like Roger Miller better. Dylan thought that was funny and appreciated that somebody wasn’t kissing his ass for a change
Legendary rock photographer Neal Preston also recalled doing a session with the Traveling Wilburys, and George Harrison and Tom Petty were fretting about Dylan’s moods and were like we’ll see what Bob says, if he’s not in a good mood we won’t do this, and Preston thought, You’re an F’n Beatle!!! You don’t have to tiptoe around anybody!!!
I feel there’s a strong connection between Obviously Five Believers and Chuck Berry’s I Wanna Be Your Diver, as there is between that Berry song and Jefferson Airplane’s Chauffeur Blues.
Abby you're real cute! and I love your videos! Happy Holidays and New Year celebration. My collection on CDs is approaching 2,500 spanning from the 60's to present day. I bet I won't be happy until I double my collection. Dylan is amazing as a legendary lyricist and performer. Love The Band but Garth is sadly the only member left. What a band to back up Dylan's brilliance. Stay healthy and be safe!
Abbi I love you and wish you were my friend. However I’m a 67yr old Brit; but still you give me insights that breath life into my old faves xx Thanks 👍
Hello Abby, loving double album December. I am also a Gemini, but quite frankly astrology is bo**o*s. Favourite Dylan song? Only about 40 of them. If forced I tend to go with Desolation Row. Positively 4th St. is probably second. Dylan is my favourite solo artist of all time. Yes i am one of those people that owns all the bootleg series and actually regularly plays them. Couple of side notes, my actual favourite Dylan is Time Out of Mind from 1997 but you probably have to be a bit older to appreciate that one. Note 2, on your Clash review you commented on Paul Simonons bass playing and included Peter Hook. There is a third great English bass player around at the time and he nees a mention because the band had 4 number one singles in the Uk between 1977 and 1982 and yet remain pretty unkown in the USA as far as I can tell. Started out punk then were leading lights of the mod revival. I give you The Jam. Check out bassist Bruce Foxton, you won't regret it. Merry Christmas and happy new Year. See you in January.
I love this album and your analysis Abby was spot on the second time was the charm). My second favorite album of his is 'Oh, Mercy'. You won't regret listening to it.
My UK copy has nine photos inside. Nothing special, though, it was just a bog-standard copy I bought in the late 1970's. I love this channel. Abigail's just superb!
If you were to ask me to choose a winner between “Blonde” & “The Basement Tapes” with the Band, I absolutely have to call a draw. I just cannot call this one.
Fantastic good bye to 2023! Way to go! @abigaildevoe Love the album and review! Here is to 2024 and more reviews! Happy New Year to you and your family!
i was watching some claudia cardinale films last week and considering buying some new ones. "blonde on blonde" with claudia's photo inside is something i've wanted most of my life but i don't need it anymore. i'm glad you have it.
If you ever circle back to any of the other Dylan records from his time in Nashville, make sure to check out the UA-cam video “Introducing Bob Dylan - the Nashville Sessions” which includes interviews with Bob Johnston and several of the musicians that played on those albums.
YUSSSSS! Al Kooper gets his due! I hope you have and enjoy Blood Sweat & Tears's debut album, "Child Is Father To The Man" so we can someday see a review of that classic gem.
Yep, the acoustic part of Manchester just knocked me down and made me appreciate Blonde on Blonde a whole lot more. I'd read somewhere, some music journalist, that Van Morrison gave the best rendition of "Just Like a Woman", but it was a live performance only available on bootlegs, (this before UA-cam.) I searched for years before I finally found it, (I think on UA-cam), and was greatly disappointed, but also relieved, because it meant that Bob's performance stood unrivaled. A great album by a unique voice. However, Abigail, I don't know where you picked up the misinformation, but Bob's first wife, Sara, is still alive. I enjoy your vids, hoping you'll stoop a bit though and do a review of the 1964 stinker, The Beats -- the lowbrow Beatles' imitation that cashed in on Beatlemania.
what’s your favorite dylan song? comment below!
Lay Lady Lay
Stuck inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
Seen The Arrow On The Doorpost
Saying "This Land Is Condemned
All The Way From New Orleans
To Jerusalem."
I see my light come shining....I liked "The Band" version best.
It's alright ma I'm only bleeding ❤....who's not busy being born is busy dying 🎉
One of my favorite Dylan stories is one time Peter Grant, the manager of Led Zeppelin, saw Dylan backstage at a concert, and he became a star struck teenager. He went up to him, shook his hand, said something like it’s such an honor to meet you, I’m Led
Zeppelin’s manager, and Dylan said hey man I don’t wanna hear your problems and walked away
It’s hard to imagine Grant in this context. He was a terrifying thug.
Indeed but even the most powerful people in the industry were in awe of Dylan, including The Beatles.
Actually Dylan said "I don't come to you with my problems". Much cooler.
Grant was probably trying to steal him from Grossman.
Or whoever was managing Bob at the time.
Im an old guy who was around when this stunning album was released and I've never heard, or read, a better, more incisive, heartfelt review than this one. Thank you!
Abby's videos are that college class where you showed up early to get a seat in the front row
Yup, i remember hearing it in my friend’s basement when it came out. 👍🏻 still have my original copy
I’m a bit of an oldster too, and I’m consistently amazed by Abigail’s insightful videos. They warm my heart.

Give the city of Nashville & it's excellent musicians credit for bringing out the best of Bob.
Best wishes to every vinyl fan here. Merry christmas and a happy new year. May we get more Dylan albums next year (John Wesley Harding perhaps). Also, thanks Abby's dad
Yup...John Westly..lets go girl!
Honestly, Abigail, I’ve never heard anybody as accessible and insightful as you are dishing on Dylan theme, just really outstanding, it doesn’t matter which icon you focus upon, you’re so good! Dove deep into “Blonde On Blonde” when my peers were into Aerosmith, the Eagles and “Frampton Comes Alive”. Thanks for this - it warms my heart.

That '66 tour was special. I am so thankful we have such beautiful recordings from so many shows.
the last time i dropped acid, i was at altamont in 1969. the end of the sixties hurt me more than i thought possible. i really appreciate your aesthetic; you would have fit right in.
Your original review was actually what got me into dylan, very cool to see a redux!!
This is the greatest album in the history of modern/popular music. Other than that, I really love it and have loved it for 57 years. Here's to a happy and healthy new year to you, Abby.
Wow, time flies the original blonde on blonde review was how I found your channel. It's awesome to see these videos get more attention!
Girl, YOU are sooo rock-n-roll. I LOVE YOU!

Worn out records and needles reminds me of putting pennies on the tone arm to make it play.
honestly that’s probably what the person who owned that copy before me did
either that or they really REALLY like sad eyed lady (fair, because same)
I was in LA at the time, fresh out of college working as a camp counselor. An awesome, quirky teenage summer camp student who must have been 13-14 at the time, and from switzerland of all places, introduced me to this album & Dylan. Been a fan ever since!!

Thank you for teaching me about albums I should already know about that I’m so excited to learn about. Straight gems always
Merry Christmas Abby and a vinyl New Year, best thing that happened this year was you popping up on my UA-cam list, and after just one listen I was hooked & subscribed....
That is exactly my deal. It just popped up on my feed and I swallowed the hook
Same here. For such a youngster, she really knows her stuff. I learn something new almost every time.
Great album choice, great review, and great shelves (thanks Abby’s dad!). I usually re-listen to the album before watching your video, and that makes for a fun couple of hours. Thanks for doing such a good job.
Haha! I usually revisit the album afterwards while reading the comments!

Dylan has been one of my largest influences over the course of my music journey and career. Thank you for covering one of his very best. 😀
Merry Christmas Abigail! Thanks so much for the gift of your perspective. I'm not much of a 'hey let's randomly try this artist or album' kinda guy but I'm getting better because of you. I didn’t know who Bob Dylan was.
But I kept playing Stuck Inside A Mobile over and over.

Abby yer a riot..you keep me smiling...i've had this album for years an still blows me away today!
That was spot on! I’ll be up all night listening to Bob.
Great, great stuff, Abigail. Great insights and thoroughly engaging presentation.
BTW, it was your first review of Blonde on Blonde that turned my attention to your channel!
Fab review as always Abigail, especially your insights into Visions of Johanna…but just fyi, Dylan’s ex Sara actually has not yet passed😮
Ok i want live notifications for everytime you mention Bob
A real day off, hell yeah
Please don't give up "Circle Sky" as transition music. When I first heard it on your channel I immediately subscribed!
don’t worry, circle sky is here to stay!
My favorite Dylan record!
I been listening to this album since 55 years !!
it gets better every time !
The Hawks with a constantly changing lineup had been the backing band of Canadian Rock'n'Roller Ronnie Hawkins until 1964 when they departed from Hawkins in a dispute over money and other things. In 1965 they have been a touring band for Dylan.
Your enthusiasm for the albums you review is simply brilliant. Thank you.
Like a Rolling Stone, which I've been performing for what, 55 years? is my fave Dylan plus a zillion others. She Belongs to Me.
Thank god for this channel!!
Devoe, the Duchess of December's Children (And Everybody's).
Hello Abby I just watched your MC5 review absolutely the best. I am a new subscriber sure enjoyed the Bob Dylan album review. Top notch.
I remember listing to the album 15-20 years ago but my friend who lives close to a forest where the Screaming Eagles trained during the start of WWII.
Jerry Schatzberg also became an acclaimed director of films like Scarecrow and Puzzle of a Downfall Child
“Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again” was the song i related to when i was living in Mexico wanting to live back in Texas…
The shrieking harmonica howls in the bones of my face.
If you’re going for a winter coat theme, maybe review What’s Goin’ On?
Love this channel. Happy Christmas and here's to more and more in 2024.
This remains my favorite Dylan album despite the first song which I despise 'n skip nearly every time. I have more comments to espouse but rather than repeat I'll direct anyone who's interested to yer first review o' Blonde On Blonde way back when then.
i trust someday you’ll see the light of rainy day women. it took me a long time to come around!
Excellent review. If you’re ever near Oklahoma you should visit the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa. You’d love it.
Oh, and Positively 4th street is Bob’s greatest song followed closely by Desolation Row.
Happy holidays Abby
Thanks for a great year of content
happy holidays to you too!
Abigail your the first I ever liked on UA-cam,happy holidays, you and the show are the best
I didn’t guess which album you were going to do but I figured sooner or later one of us must know. Great review, thanks
I found your channel this year, around April or so, thanks to your Blonde on Blonde video. Very fitting finale.
Dylan also had a role in the Sam
Peckinpah movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and he apparently wrote Knockin on Heaven’s Door for it. When Peckinpah met Dylan he said yeah I heard your music, you’re not so great, I like Roger Miller better. I have the Mobile Fidelity version of this & it's remarkable. Bob set a high standard & The MF version meets it.
You definitely did it justice.

Another awesome video… thanks Abby!
I’m doing my uni dissertation on Blonde on Blonde and this video just re-sparked the reason why I chose to do it
Abbi I love you and wish you were my friend. However I’m a 67yr old Brit; but still you give me insights that breath life into my old faves xx
Thanks 👍
Came for bob dylan. Stayed for Abigail 😍
Damn! This album must mean a lot to me, because there were times when I was moved to tears listening to this video.
it means a lot to me too - the album and your comment
Wow! You have a UK pressing on the orange CBS label, a true gem!
Great redux. I need to get an LP copy.
Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands begs to be enjoyed at the hour it was recorded. The sad stillness and boozy weariness of 3am is where the song lives.
Hello Abby, loving double album December. I am also a Gemini, but quite frankly astrology is bo**o*s. Favourite Dylan song? Only about 40 of them. If forced I tend to go with Desolation Row. I love this album and your analysis Abby was spot on the second time was the charm). My second favorite album of his is 'Oh, Mercy'. You won't regret listening to it.
Your original and your redux are both great. The later is 10 what-the-redux times better than the orginal.
Fantastic review abigali!
Hope you get a faboules year 😊
Greetings from sweden 🤗
My UK copy has nine photos inside. Nothing special, though, it was just a bog-standard copy I bought in the late 1970's.

Love Blonde on Blonde so so much. I think it’s Dylan’s best and one of my fave albums of all time
the best early birthday present! great video!!
Like a Strolling Bone 🚬🚬
i was watching some claudia cardinale films last week and considering buying some new ones. "blonde on blonde" with claudia's photo inside is something i've wanted most of my life but i don't need it anymore. i'm glad you have it.
The shrieking harmonica killed it for me, but for the majority there are some great cuts on it.
If you ever circle back to any of the other Dylan records from his time in Nashville, make sure to check out the UA-cam video “Introducing Bob Dylan - the Nashville Sessions” which includes interviews with Bob Johnston and several of the musicians that played on those albums.

Abby, you're fantastic.
Blond On Blond is fantastic, too. It deserves a high place on the list of the best albums of all time.
Thanks Dad!
happy Christmas Dear Abigail :)))
YUSSSSS! Al Kooper gets his due! I hope you have and enjoy Blood Sweat & Tears's debut album, "Child Is Father To The Man" so we can someday see a review of that classic gem.
i have a couple copies of child is father yeah!
Nicely done retro "look"!!
the ghost of electricity howls through this girl's entire soul, rubber or not
Yep, the acoustic part of Manchester just knocked me down and made me appreciate Blonde on Blonde a whole lot more.
