Best version yet - Roy's smoky baritone does justice to this sad song.
My favorite version. The country Perry Como. Very underrated singer and proud Georgian!
This song takes me back to 1971. I was newly married and six months later she died of cancer. I bet I played this song a million times, Roy's version just has the hurt I felt in my heart. I still love this song and I was lucky to see Roy in person a dozen times and he always did this song for me. When he died we lost a true gentleman and a great singer and friend.
Best version Thank you
I first heard this version of Red Red Wine in late 1978 (at the time in love but separated and suffrin'! ).Though I know Neil Diamond wrote it and UB40 had the worldwide hit with it,to me Roy Drusky's version will ALWAYS be the definitive version of this song ,the tenderness and empathy in his vocal just amazing and heartbreakingly beautiful. r.i.p.Roy and thanks for touching my heart/thank you wilburscott for the upload and the memory!
This is my absolute FAVORITE version of this song!! I grew up listening to Roy Drusky. Thanks for posting!!
Yes, Roy was one of the good ones, with that easy/smooth voice. Great singer. Thanks for sharing this one from long ago. Enjoyed. Take care. Gwen
Beautiful. I always loved this song. Great version by Vic Dana too!! Roy drusky is wonderful--so smooth!!
Beautiful, smooth, wonderful song, tremendous voice
From reading the
comments, this
song seems to
have attracted the
present day intelligencia of
country music fan
dom. Thanks to
Neil Diamond for
writing this and to
whomever arranged and orchestrated this
gem. I wonder if
Neil Diamond has
ever offered an
opinion of this
recording. It wouldn't surprise
me if he said it is
his personal favorite among
ALL the songs he
has ever written.👍👏👍👏👍👏😀
I don't know that Neil Diamond would say that this song is his favorite of all those he has written, but he may agree that Roy's rendition of it may be the best ever. I would agree!

I just found this. Appreciate
your value of this immortal recording from a super star who the CMHOF voting committee despicably and diigently keeps blocking the
enshrinement of.🙈😫
Of all of Roy's
great recordings, I seem to find myself listening to THERE'S ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO LOVES A LOT more than any other. It's on the "VINYL and SHELLAC" channel.
Thanks.😊😊
Love this version
long forgotten version. great artist great memories..
Please add more of Roy's smooth, smooth sounds! I don't know much about him and wow, you seem to have quite a collection of my kind of music!!
Love this mans voice....right up there wirh Vern Gosdin and Gene Watson...easy listening...true country....
Im 61 and loved Niel Diamonds original. Never heard this one though, absolutley great
Beautiful, smooth, and perfectly orchestrated.
I applaud your
excellent taste
and appreciation
of all the nuances
involved in a bril-
liant orchestration. The
orchestrators are
the most unheralded and
unappreciated
people involved
in music OTHER
than classical,
where they are
SUPERSTARS:
Rachmaninoff,
Richard Strauss;
Verdi; Brahms,
et al.
I'm a big fan of this song in general. I love the original version, and even the UB40 cover. Somehow missed this one... glad I found it now. So smooth and soulful.
@@sandrasmith845 Not quite true - Swedish group Tom & Mick & Maniacs recorded this song in 1967; first recorded version of the song. ua-cam.com/video/9Rsqf0RxeXs/v-deo.html&t
MY DREAM LOVE MY DARLIN💋💋💋💋❤️💙
Neil went through the pain of losing the girl and you feel the pain in his slow version, so his version has to be the best
Feeling pain doesn't make something the
best. I liked some
of Diamond's
work but least of
all, his VOICE,
which sure counts
for a lot if you are
a recording artist!
Drusky could
sing circles around Diamond.
this is a great cover.
Also peaked at #17 in Record World and a notch lower at #18 in Cash Box. This version is quite the beauty.
Yep, this Nashville version is my favorite too.
There's one for my C&W playlist.
A great countrified version of Neil Diamond's song by Roy. I always thought that this made an ideal country song anyway by the nature of it's subject matter and melody. The reggae influenced group UB40 had a huge number one 1 in the UK with it in 1983 and it broke through into the US top 40 pop chart.
Mr Voice with one of my favorites!
Love that epithet:
"Mr. Voice." It
would have been
an appropriate
epitaph for his
headstone. For
all I know, that's
exactly what's on
there!
I am a Roy fan and a Neil Diamond fan. They both did a great job on this song. I would like to have my records made into CD`s since I no longer have a player but don`t know who to contact to do this. Any ideas? I am in the Phila. area. Anyone have a copy of Roy singing ,"Yesterday?" That is a real good one. We saw Roy Drusky in person twice and he was great. I wonder if his sons sing or are in the music business.
I am seeing this way after you posted it. My suggestion, if you still have the LPs, is to go buy a player. Vinyl is making a comeback and you can get a decent record player.
Still MY favourite version!......Druskywise,Town and Country Cafe,is my favourite of his,but can't find it ANYWHERE?
Compared to this,
Neil Diamond's
version is a mere
shadow on the
wall. A resounding
performance of
hypnotic beauty.
👍👏👍👏👍👏
Très belle mélodie, merci
Roy has the smoothest voice. Both good tho
His smooth voice. Johnny Duncan recorded this song too. They do sound alike. Both has that smooth voice. Great singer.
Recorded 28 October 1971 Mercury Custom Recording Studio, 1512 Hawkins St., Nashville, TN - Roy Drusky (Roy Drusky [vcl], Harold Bradley [gt], Ray Edentom [gt], Chip Young [gt], Jerry Kennedy [gt], Pete Drake [steel], Bob Moore [bass], Buddy Harman/Jerry Carrigan [drums], Jerry Smith [piano] + Nashville Sounds. Producer: Jerry Kennedy)
Gee, 10/28/71 is almost 50 years ago from today (8/28/21). That just doesn't seem possible. This is such a great rendition of Neil Diamond's classic. I am surprised it only reached #17 on the charts in 1972. I can't imagine there were 16 other hits ahead of it.
@@jp3923 I don`t understand why he is not in the CMHOF. We saw him in twice NJ in the 70s and he was great. He has 3 sons. I wonder if they sing.
PamR you should listen to Roy's When the snow is on the roses, certainly one of his best. Unfortunately, I have not come across it on youtube.
I think he was slowly walking into that lake behind him until the water was over his head, this is a depressing song
Melancholic, but
in a beautiful way:
"There is nothing
more beautiful than a perfect
tragedy."
'66-67' -anyone remember "Coffee Houses". Hmmmmmmmmmm...........definitely a BELLY RUBBER.if you know what I mean. lol
Smooth as sippin' whiskey
@@Wendeajo Well am from California but currently working in the gulf of mexico
Didn't Don Ho have a recording of this song?
Hungry for ?
absolutely horrible
Most people associate this song with UB40, but I was familiar with Roy Drusky's version long before UB40 ever covered it.
Both nice renditions, but there's a soft place in my heart for the version by Drusky.
