Unicorns are way more art than function. Don’t get me wrong, they are imo fantastic cigars - you know what let me share VERBATIM what is on our own company website: In 2017, the “Unicorn” began as a pet project gone awry. It was predicated on my disappointing experiences with dozens of “uber-rare” cigars with price tags ranging from $100.00 to $3,000.00 over the years. In my opinion, almost all these cigars were just marketing gimmicks and even worse, many of them were actually subpar. So, it got me thinking: “What if I went whole hog crazy and did everything to the Nth degree on the cigar itself?” Meaning no bazillion dollar alcohol infusion or celebrity endorsement, but rather just focused on the tobacco and cigar itself. What could we possibly spend to make such a cigar? And would those costs justify the result? It turned out it cost way more than I expected and resulted in a $100.00 unique diademas. Granted it was an amazing cigar, but who in their right mind would pay a “hundo” for a cigar? So, we just gave them away as a bonus item to our early accounts for supporting us. I thought that would be the end of it, but every single year the demand grows. We always sell out of our extremely limited annual production of Unicorns. Separate of that, I have been experimenting with crafting more Unicorns in two of our most heralded and in demand ligas: the Sobremesa Brulée Blue and the Mi Querida Black. Sexy to look at and even sexier to smoke, but be forewarned the cost of these is admittedly absurd. We are flat out telling you that while these are exceptional smokable works of art, there are more practical and intelligent ways to spend your cigar dollars. However, if you have a special moment you want to remember, commemorate or celebrate, the Unicorn may be the perfect cigar. -- So as you can see even on our own company website we are flat out telling you exactly what all of you are commenting. However over the years I have come to understand WHY people buy and smoke Unicorns - they use them to commemorate very special moments in their lives, a birth, a big promotion, to smoke with their dad on his 75th birthday, to honor the memory of a loved one, so almost all Unicorns are smoked in honor of something very personal and special. And we do absolutely best to provide something worthy. Personally Unicorns make me very uneasy - in the end no matter how much attention to detail we invest, there will be some subpar cigars, albeit extremely rare with Unicorns it does happen and I hate the thought of this. We absolutely will replace , but I regretfully cannot replace that special moment so I am always uneasy about them - the absolute last thing I want is for this to happen to anyone. Every year I debate do I make more, do I take the risk? But people literally beg us to make more and if I stopped people would start selling these for $500 or more from their collection, likely way more as the cigars in the wild dwindle - I detest flippers, so I continue to craft a limited batch each year. One final comment, you would think we are making serious bank on these, but they are such a teeny, tiny drop in the bucket - we crafted 1.8 million cigars last year and only 4,000 were Unicorns so these really are a rounding error at best for us. Could I make way more? Not really, maybe 10,000 cigars at the absolute most, but still not going to move the dial in any way financially and increasing the production that quickly would make it less of a “unicorn”. It has taken us over 5 years to go from 1,000 to 4,000… The Unicorn is about a moment, it is meant to be for those exceptionally rare times when a cigar deserves to be more than a cigar and even then NO ONE SHOULD EVER STRETCH TO BUY ONE OF THESE - if the hundred is something that in anyway impacts you personally, please do not do it. People assume I was always well off, that couldn’t be further from the truth - I grew up in a working class poor family, lived in a trailer, been on welfare, zero college, enlisted at 17, etc etc. I completely understand a $100 being way beyond comprehension and personally I am just as honored when someone chooses one of our $8 Umbagogs - I know this was probably the longest reply you have seen to any UA-cam comment, I apologize and thank everyone that took the time to read it.
As a blue collared man, I absolutely respect what your just said. Sure, i look at these and feel like I'm missing out. But i make up for it out of your regular Mi Querita and Sombrea Mesa, because to me, those are $100 of flavor. Damn, i respect the hell out of you for just making a comment like that. To me I don’t think there is a stick that should cost over $100 except for you I have not had a unicorn yet would love to but it’s not in the budget. But I know you release the best stuff and I am sure if I am lucky enough to try one I’m sure it will be a $100 experience and not a gimmick like other brands out there

Damn buddy wrote a whole book. I couldn’t agree more with what he said though. Honestly to me every cigar I’ve ever had taste the exact same. Literally zero difference. To me such a cigar would be a total loss. That’s why I stick to the cheaper cigars cause none of the flavors register to me anyways

This was fascinating to watch! For me, I'd absolutely smoke a $100 cigar, but I could never justify making that purchase. I'm much more the type of person that'd rather buy 10 $10 cigars and share them around and enjoy the moment that everyone's able to join in on. What would mean the world to me is if I was able to buy a $100 cigar for everyone in that occasion, just to see the joy on their faces. That'd be priceless.☺️
I love my 10/100 cigars, but I do love to smoke a pricier stogie every now and again. Just like Terrence, I have a my precious Cuban Cohibas I've bought over the years that I just stare at every now and again. Give them a wink and say "How you doin???" 😉
Davidoff Royal is amazing! Not worth $100 for me but to me it's worth $60 which says a lot! I hope Terrance is able to smoke it and give his opinion on it one day.
Like a special wine, bourbon, scotch, cigars or restaurants, the occasion and people you share it with is what makes the product so special. There is no way that cigar is 5x better than so many amazing cigars out there so you can never justify the money spent that way.

I like the idea of the 10/10$ sticks, but I'm a guy who likes inexpensive, and would def go for good 20/5$ sticks. I did buy myself a Opus X Shark for Christmas to see what the hype was about. It was good, but not anymore better than a good H. Upman or RyJ stick for half or quarter of the cost. I do like experiencing new cigars and always open for trying new cigars, but I like what I like.
I've had this discussion about whiskey. I remember when I was getting Redbreast 21 overseas a few years ago for around 150. I eventually picked up a Redbreast 27 for 550. I would share both with friends and then ask would you rather have one bottle of Redbreast 27, which is glorious, or 4 bottles of Redbreast 21 which is only slightly less glorious. The resounding answer was always Redbreast 21. Yes, the 27 is better, but it's not 4 Redbreast 21s better. Appreciate the content.
It would be interesting to see a blind taste test with a cigar in this price range against several 15 dollar sticks. That cigar has the unique shape identity so don’t know how you could get around that. Point being if you were smoking that stick without the psychological influence of it being such an exclusive ( price wise) cigar , would it rate as high or would it be just a good cigar along with multiple others. I think Dunbarton products are all good so it does intrigue me what he has put out here.
I was tempted once to buy a $100 pour of Pappy at a high end bar, I chickened (cheaped) out. In hindsight, I should have done it and I should have bought one for my buddy as well so we could share the experience. That said, normally i am a 10 for $10 guy but, if the opportunity arose and I had the disposable cash, I might be convinced to purchase the unicorn, and another to share. I really do believe that the level of enjoyment goes beyond the quality of the product and is exponentially improved by the setting you consume it in and the company you share the exeprience with. If nothing else, it would be a smoke to tell your friends about over and over again. Especially if paired with that glass of Pappy. I too vote for more Terrance, you two have a good synergy on camera. Keep the great content coming!
I've had a several $100+ cigars (full disclosure: all gifted to me) and the one that stands out as "worth it" is the Opus X BBMF...it was gifted by Carlito Fuente (yes, humble brag). I lit it while hanging out with some fishing buddies and it was so good that I stepped away to sit down and focus on the flavors of the cigar. Just perfect and IMHO it has the edge over Cohiba Behike 54. That being said, even though I can afford to buy $100 cigars without having to stretch to buy one, my yankee conservative nature just won't let me do it.

Happy Saturday morning. I’m smoking a room 101 custom. It’s a good one. I’m not interested in paying more than 15 bucks for a cigar. I’ve noticed that as long as it’s a good tasting cigar, I get the same amount of enjoyment from a five dollar stick as I do from a $20 stick so there’s no need for me to Spend more than I need to. That’s not how I roll.
I love cigars. I started smoking them back in the early to mid 90's, I actually got a job at Nat Sherman's in NYC back then when I was in college. It was great, at that time they had an office and warehouse on the west side of Manhattan. Everyone in the office either smoked cigarettes (Nat Sherman has their own line of cigarettes) or cigars during the workday!! Anyway, my Dad and I when we are together realllllly enjoy a good smoke together. It's a great time to relax, tell stories and otherwise connect. It really is the simple things in life. In terms of very expensive cigars I have smoked many brands and really to be honest it's difficult for me tell the difference. I have smoked thousands of cigars and the best smoke I ever had was a Carlos Torano Grand Nicaraguan robusto back in like '97 or '98. I had it with a delicious cup of coffee, I'm telling you the thing was damn near perfect. I have been chasing that experience ever since.
Most definitely if money is available I will smoke the padrons 26 and 64 and will try sakas line the next is the red meat lovers they are 15$ at my local humidor
I have yet to have a $100 cigar, but I agree with. I'm in the transition from "I like value so i have a lot of cigars" into "well maybe I can have fewer cigars, but a few really nice ones". But the bar is high for me to spend more than 5-10$ on a cigar.
I really think the better question for me is..."How often do I feel like I will be able to put $100 down for cigars?" If I'm at a point that I don't fret over every instance of spending $100...I'm grabbing that single stick! If funds have been a bit harder to come by for a bit, I'm still grabbing at least (3) $20 sticks. If I'm looking for sticks to pass around or feel like I'm rubbing coins together for a while or stocking for a longer haul...that's when I'm grabbing (10) $10 sticks.
1st cigar I smoked was a Cohiba Behike my Cuban friend brought me from Cuba. He bought it for $50 now they are been selling it for $100 That’s how I got in to the cigar world. Next time I have the opportunity to smoke other cigar like this I’ll wait ‘til my palate knows what it’s I’m smoking
In the last 3 days I smoked a box press 6" olmec 14.95$ . A liga privada t-52 15.00$. An oliva serie v melanio Maduro figaroto 18.75$ . An AJ fernandez old world Dorado 12.50$ and a macanudo inspirado black robusto 8.75$ hands down Macanudo inspirado black beats all of them but would purchase olmec and Dorado again
Ive smoked that cigar and it was FANTASTIC im looking forward to the next time I can convince myself its a special enough occasion to pull one out the humidor! BUT I will say I dont think its worth 100$ and not because it wasnt good. Its probably one of if not the best cigars ive ever had. (plus the regular mi querida black is my favorite stick so I mean I knew I was going to like it) But any cigar over 30$ isnt worth it. Im not saying I don't buy them because I do I just know that it isnt going to be 5x better than a 20$ stick. But to smoke them on a special occasion the experience of smoking it on that day can justify it. Plus you have to look at people that collect cigars. I love collecting cigars I got sticks in the humidor that will never be smoked quite a few actually so for me buying a 100$ stick to collect doesn't matter. Because ill get my moneys worth out of looking at it everytime I open the humidor. Or showing it a friend that is also into collecting cigars.For me I start to think about it when i buy a 100$ stick to smoke that. With that said I have 2 mi querida black's unicorns in there and one sombremesa brûlée unicorns in there haha!And as far as the 100$ burning a hole in my pocket question. It could go either way it depends on how many I have in the humidor. If I only have one or none of the 100$ sticks id get it but otherwise I would probably just look for a stick I dont have/havent tried.
I used to be the 10/$100 smoker but I’ve found that after 30 yrs of smoking cigars that my tastes prefer quality over quantity in my more experienced years and the price doesn’t play as much a role in my choices.
The cigar might be worth 100 bucks but I don't feel I have the palette for a 100 dollar cigar. I feel it would be wasted on myself. 10 to 20 bucks is my normal cost limit per cigar
I'm partial to the 5 for $20 deal and I've found that $15-20 is the sweet spot for great cigars that I can stomach buying. Although I'm graduating soon and have my eye on the Davidoff Oro Blanco as a holy grail cigar...
Having smoked a well maintained Partagas 150 2 years ago, I saw the Brullee at my favorite tobacconists and bought it. I have had a few of Steve Saka's cigars before and enjoyed them all, so I knew it wasn't going to be a bad smoke. I thoroughly enjoyed it and smoked it down to the nubbins. It is easily tied for the 2nd best cigar I have ever smoked. Was it worth $100? for me, it was. I liken it to people who buy expensive things to put on their wall because that is what they are interested in. To someone else it would be junk.
If i had 100$ for cigars, its going to be a few tabernacle Havana seeds, a few MF flor de las antillas maduros, a few aganorsa leafs, a pelencia 149 and a new stick to try. (Sorry if these are spelled wrong lol) It would also depend on what my inventory is like, but those are some of my go tos. I could definitely get a good variety though. Im not made out of money, i like quality and i know more than a few stick under $12 a stick thats are phenomenal.
All the foundation stuff is so amazing. I had an Olmec 2 days ago that was insane. Never lost flavor ever. I was burning my fingers and did not want it to end so i grabbed my corn cob pipe and stuffed the nub down the bowl and kept going.
Good review. I've enjoyed several $100 cigars. The Davidoff Royal was my favorite of that price range. The Royal was very, very good. But even cigars in the $25 and up range weren't any more special than some of the more cost friendly cigars in the $5 - $24 range. I just smoked a Ciclope 554 and thoroughly enjoyed it, beginning to end. I paid 8.50 at my local BnM. While smoking, I was thinking why didn't I purchase 3 or 4 of these sticks. I hopped online and I found the Ciclope 5 pack for $41 bucks. I'd enjoy those 5 sticks way more than 1, $100 Royal. It goes without saying, smoke what you like... it's all subjective. For me, I enjoy finding good sticks on the 5-24 dollar range. Burning through 5, 10, 15, or 20 bucks and getting a very good smoke experience is more satisfying, knowing I can easily have this experience whenever I choose, verses the $100 experience which will be savored only on a special occasion. Try the El Rey Del Mundo, Ciclopse 554, Blackbird Cigar Co. Minnesota Fats, La Galera, Black Works Studio Rorschach. These smokes are delicious to me and are easier on the wallet.
Personal taste only; I would rather smoke a Davidoff Winstin Churchill Late hour cigar ($24) and then use the rest on a very decent bottle of Bourbon to pair it with.
I would rather spend on 10 $10 cigars than $100 on a single cigar. Part of the experiential aspect of smoking cigars in my opinion is smoking socially. Getting to share a bunch of average to above average cigars with the buds over a drink just on on someone's back porch will be a much more memorable celebration.
Unless I make throw away money, ill never spend $100 on a single cigar. I'll always get a box or a few cigars for that money but I'm glad to see that Saka puts absolute quality out no matter what
I smoked a unicorn once, it was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it but that said I would much rather have a bunch of cheaper cigars, not that it wasn't a great experience but it just wasn't that much better than a Mi Querida so it would be tough to ever buy that over a bunch of those.
My friend and I have a toying with the idea of getting the Royal Salamonie from Davidoff Royal release. At $150 a stick we somehow just can't pull the trigger
Right now at my local cigar shop, the Cohiba robustos go for $149, I can bet you they are not as good as those unicorns, but I have 6 of those Cohibas in my humidor from the past, and as I found out the new price I'm not going to smoke them for a long time 😂

Could not imagine owing a $100.00 cigar I’m more of a 5 for $20.00 guy. Heck I’m staring at my last Filthy Hooligan, waiting for next St. Patrick’s day so I can schedule it in my calendar to smoke it.
He's right when he said a $100 cigar has to be better than a $20 stick. Honestly, ~$20 is the sweet spot! There's a few $10 stick's that are comparable to some $20 stick's. When you jump up to the ~$50 stick range, it'd need to be substantially better than a ~$20 stick, and some of the ~$20 stick's can hang with a $50 stick. Once you jump to a $100 stick, it'd better be notably better than a $50 stick, and superior over a ~$20 stick, but alot of time's they're not, or they're only marginally better and it doesn't justify the price. It's only something mental and a point of pride at that point. Honestly, you're 3 biggest price points new cigar lovers need to focus on, are the $5, $10, & $20 price ranges. THAT'S where it's at! Save the $50 occasional stick like Padron exclusives and Arturo Fuente(Best Nicaraguan & Dominican brand's across the boards, respectively imo) exclusives and you can't go wrong! Pssst- forget about the $100 stick, it's a unicorn, it doesn't exist. Only in your imagination...
If I was given $100 that I had to spend I’d get some $25/30+ cigars. Things that I’d not buy myself but I’m intrigued to try - I wana see if they having something better than the $20 cigars; if the answer is yes and I’m given another $100 I’d try the $100 cigar…but there are still many $25+ cigars that I haven’t tried that I want
I’ve come to the conclusion that although $100 could be spent on multiple cigars, everyone should try one $100 cigar at least once in their cigar journey. Just make it a good one!
10 $10 cigars is basically 10 garbage sticks that you're gonna pawn off in friends, it's very rare that I find a $10 cigar that's actually worth smoking as a Canadian
Yeah, $10.00 in Canada is garbage. Canadian here. $15 is probably the start. My rough sense is that Canadian prices are roughly 2x or more of US prices. Padrons are roughly $40 or more here, so if this were available in Canada (it’s not), would be a $200 stick.
@@420031 yeah we get fucked. Even though I'm not paying tax the cheapest smokeable sticks I've had were $12 and they weren't good, just tolerable. But there have been far more $12 sticks that I had to toss in the first 3rd
Canadian here aswell .... I used to order cigar chief but now unreliable and never in stock.... start ordering smokes from the US to the border....cheap freight forwarders do it ... I go a few times a year or I know a few truckers who will pick them up for me ... its win win 🏆

When I walk into a Cigar shop with $100, I spend it this way; 1- $50, 2 -$20, 1- $10. I prefer to smoke quality over quantity, that being said I know that there are $10 cigars that are great, but they are far in between. My daily smokes are davidoff and R&J Wide Churchill, in my 20+ years of smoking cigars I find those are the cigars that I enjoy the most, so I smoke what I like, otherwise what is the point? I know some people who like to try many cigars, and a lower price points offer that flexibility, so I get it that. To each their own.
I purchased and smoked the Rocky Patel $100 Conviction. It was a good-quality cigar, but not even close in enjoyment to my $12-$25 favorites. IMHO, this $100-a-stick fad is just a marketing gimmick.

To me I don’t think there is a stick that should cost over $100 except for you I have not had a unicorn yet would love to but it’s not in the budget. But I know you release the best stuff and I am sure if I am lucky enough to try one I’m sure it will be a $100 experience and not a gimmick like other brands out there

Damn buddy wrote a whole book. I couldn’t agree more with what he said though. Honestly to me every cigar I’ve ever had taste the exact same. Literally zero difference. To me such a cigar would be a total loss. That’s why I stick to the cheaper cigars cause none of the flavors register to me anyways

This was fascinating to watch! For me, I'd absolutely smoke a $100 cigar, but I could never justify making that purchase. I'm much more the type of person that'd rather buy 10 $10 cigars and share them around and enjoy the moment that everyone's able to join in on. What would mean the world to me is if I was able to buy a $100 cigar for everyone in that occasion, just to see the joy on their faces. That'd be priceless.☺️

Davidoff Royal is amazing! Not worth $100 for me but to me it's worth $60 which says a lot! I hope Terrance is able to smoke it and give his opinion on it one day.
Like a special wine, bourbon, scotch, cigars or restaurants, the occasion and people you share it with is what makes the product so special. There is no way that cigar is 5x better than so many amazing cigars out there so you can never justify the money spent that way.

I like the idea of the 10/10$ sticks, but I'm a guy who likes inexpensive, and would def go for good 20/5$ sticks. I did buy myself a Opus X Shark for Christmas to see what the hype was about. It was good, but not anymore better than a good H. Upman or RyJ stick for half or quarter of the cost. I do like experiencing new cigars and always open for trying new cigars, but I like what I like.
Fuentes are worth it! They grow/blend/manufacture… they don’t just ring up a factory… order a blend and slap a fancy label on it!
I fully trust Terrance's suggestions. Many of my favorite sticks have been a result of his cigar experiences.

I've had this discussion about whiskey. I remember when I was getting Redbreast 21 overseas a few years ago for around 150. I eventually picked up a Redbreast 27 for 550. I would share both with friends and then ask would you rather have one bottle of Redbreast 27, which is glorious, or 4 bottles of Redbreast 21 which is only slightly less glorious. The resounding answer was always Redbreast 21. Yes, the 27 is better, but it's not 4 Redbreast 21s better. Appreciate the content.
It would be interesting to see a blind taste test with a cigar in this price range against several 15 dollar sticks. That cigar has the unique shape identity so don’t know how you could get around that. Point being if you were smoking that stick without the psychological influence of it being such an exclusive ( price wise) cigar , would it rate as high or would it be just a good cigar along with multiple others. I think Dunbarton products are all good so it does intrigue me what he has put out here.
I was tempted once to buy a $100 pour of Pappy at a high end bar, I chickened (cheaped) out. In hindsight, I should have done it and I should have bought one for my buddy as well so we could share the experience. That said, normally i am a 10 for $10 guy but, if the opportunity arose and I had the disposable cash, I might be convinced to purchase the unicorn, and another to share. I really do believe that the level of enjoyment goes beyond the quality of the product and is exponentially improved by the setting you consume it in and the company you share the exeprience with. If nothing else, it would be a smoke to tell your friends about over and over again. Especially if paired with that glass of Pappy.

I've had a several $100+ cigars (full disclosure: all gifted to me) and the one that stands out as "worth it" is the Opus X BBMF...it was gifted by Carlito Fuente (yes, humble brag). I lit it while hanging out with some fishing buddies and it was so good that I stepped away to sit down and focus on the flavors of the cigar. Just perfect and IMHO it has the edge over Cohiba Behike 54. That being said, even though I can afford to buy $100 cigars without having to stretch to buy one, my yankee conservative nature just won't let me do it.

For a $100.00 USD cigar. That's would be around 152.29 AUD. So a 70.00 AUD cigar would cost around 45.97 U.S.D. That is not taking into consideration State and Local taxes the the government gets, still to be added onto that cigar.

Happy Saturday morning. I’m smoking a room 101 custom. It’s a good one. I’m not interested in paying more than 15 bucks for a cigar. I’ve noticed that as long as it’s a good tasting cigar, I get the same amount of enjoyment from a five dollar stick as I do from a $20 stick so there’s no need for me to Spend more than I need to. That’s not how I roll.

I love cigars. I started smoking them back in the early to mid 90's, I actually got a job at Nat Sherman's in NYC back then when I was in college. It was great, at that time they had an office and warehouse on the west side of Manhattan. Everyone in the office either smoked cigarettes (Nat Sherman has their own line of cigarettes) or cigars during the workday!! Anyway, my Dad and I when we are together realllllly enjoy a good smoke together. It's a great time to relax, tell stories and otherwise connect. It really is the simple things in life. In terms of very expensive cigars I have smoked many brands and really to be honest it's difficult for me tell the difference. I have smoked thousands of cigars and the best smoke I ever had was a Carlos Torano Grand Nicaraguan robusto back in like '97 or '98. I had it with a delicious cup of coffee, I'm telling you the thing was damn near perfect. I have been chasing that experience ever since.

Most definitely if money is available I will smoke the padrons 26 and 64 and will try sakas line the next is the red meat lovers they are 15$ at my local humidor
I have yet to have a $100 cigar, but I agree with. I'm in the transition from "I like value so i have a lot of cigars" into "well maybe I can have fewer cigars, but a few really nice ones". But the bar is high for me to spend more than 5-10$ on a cigar.
I really think the better question for me is..."How often do I feel like I will be able to put $100 down for cigars?" If I'm at a point that I don't fret over every instance of spending $100...I'm grabbing that single stick! If funds have been a bit harder to come by for a bit, I'm still grabbing at least (3) $20 sticks. If I'm looking for sticks to pass around or feel like I'm rubbing coins together for a while or stocking for a longer haul...that's when I'm grabbing (10) $10 sticks.

In the last 3 days I smoked a box press 6" olmec 14.95$ . A liga privada t-52 15.00$. An oliva serie v melanio Maduro figaroto 18.75$ . An AJ fernandez old world Dorado 12.50$ and a macanudo inspirado black robusto 8.75$ hands down Macanudo inspirado black beats all of them but would purchase olmec and Dorado again
Ive smoked that cigar and it was FANTASTIC im looking forward to the next time I can convince myself its a special enough occasion to pull one out the humidor! BUT I will say I dont think its worth 100$ and not because it wasnt good. Its probably one of if not the best cigars ive ever had. (plus the regular mi querida black is my favorite stick so I mean I knew I was going to like it) But any cigar over 30$ isnt worth it. Im not saying I don't buy them because I do I just know that it isnt going to be 5x better than a 20$ stick. But to smoke them on a special occasion the experience of smoking it on that day can justify it. Plus you have to look at people that collect cigars. I love collecting cigars I got sticks in the humidor that will never be smoked quite a few actually so for me buying a 100$ stick to collect doesn't matter. Because ill get my moneys worth out of looking at it everytime I open the humidor. Or showing it a friend that is also into collecting cigars.For me I start to think about it when i buy a 100$ stick to smoke that. With that said I have 2 mi querida black's unicorns in there and one sombremesa brûlée unicorns in there haha!And as far as the 100$ burning a hole in my pocket question. It could go either way it depends on how many I have in the humidor. If I only have one or none of the 100$ sticks id get it but otherwise I would probably just look for a stick I dont have/havent tried.

I used to be the 10/$100 smoker but I’ve found that after 30 yrs of smoking cigars that my tastes prefer quality over quantity in my more experienced years and the price doesn’t play as much a role in my choices.
The cigar might be worth 100 bucks but I don't feel I have the palette for a 100 dollar cigar. I feel it would be wasted on myself. 10 to 20 bucks is my normal cost limit per cigar

I'm partial to the 5 for $20 deal and I've found that $15-20 is the sweet spot for great cigars that I can stomach buying. Although I'm graduating soon and have my eye on the Davidoff Oro Blanco as a holy grail cigar...
Having smoked a well maintained Partagas 150 2 years ago, I saw the Brullee at my favorite tobacconists and bought it. I have had a few of Steve Saka's cigars before and enjoyed them all, so I knew it wasn't going to be a bad smoke. I thoroughly enjoyed it and smoked it down to the nubbins. It is easily tied for the 2nd best cigar I have ever smoked. Was it worth $100? for me, it was. I liken it to people who buy expensive things to put on their wall because that is what they are interested in. To someone else it would be junk.

I could definitely get a good variety though. Im not made out of money, i like quality and i know more than a few stick under $12 a stick thats are phenomenal.
All the foundation stuff is so amazing. I had an Olmec 2 days ago that was insane. Never lost flavor ever. I was burning my fingers and did not want it to end so i grabbed my corn cob pipe and stuffed the nub down the bowl and kept going.

Good review. I've enjoyed several $100 cigars. The Davidoff Royal was my favorite of that price range. The Royal was very, very good. But even cigars in the $25 and up range weren't any more special than some of the more cost friendly cigars in the $5 - $24 range. I just smoked a Ciclope 554 and thoroughly enjoyed it, beginning to end. I paid 8.50 at my local BnM. While smoking, I was thinking why didn't I purchase 3 or 4 of these sticks. I hopped online and I found the Ciclope 5 pack for $41 bucks. I'd enjoy those 5 sticks way more than 1, $100 Royal. It goes without saying, smoke what you like... it's all subjective. For me, I enjoy finding good sticks on the 5-24 dollar range. Burning through 5, 10, 15, or 20 bucks and getting a very good smoke experience is more satisfying, knowing I can easily have this experience whenever I choose, verses the $100 experience which will be savored only on a special occasion. Try the El Rey Del Mundo, Ciclopse 554, Blackbird Cigar Co. Minnesota Fats, La Galera, Black Works Studio Rorschach. These smokes are delicious to me and are easier on the wallet.
I thought about buying a Black Unicorn or a Davidoff Royal Release to keep for a special occasion.

Personal taste only; I would rather smoke a Davidoff Winstin Churchill Late hour cigar ($24) and then use the rest on a very decent bottle of Bourbon to pair it with.
I would rather spend on 10 $10 cigars than $100 on a single cigar. Part of the experiential aspect of smoking cigars in my opinion is smoking socially. Getting to share a bunch of average to above average cigars with the buds over a drink just on on someone's back porch will be a much more memorable celebration.

I smoked a unicorn once, it was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it but that said I would much rather have a bunch of cheaper cigars, not that it wasn't a great experience but it just wasn't that much better than a Mi Querida so it would be tough to ever buy that over a bunch of those.
My friend and I have a toying with the idea of getting the Royal Salamonie from Davidoff Royal release. At $150 a stick we somehow just can't pull the trigger

He's right when he said a $100 cigar has to be better than a $20 stick. Honestly, ~$20 is the sweet spot! There's a few $10 stick's that are comparable to some $20 stick's. When you jump up to the ~$50 stick range, it'd need to be substantially better than a ~$20 stick, and some of the ~$20 stick's can hang with a $50 stick. Once you jump to a $100 stick, it'd better be notably better than a $50 stick, and superior over a ~$20 stick, but alot of time's they're not, or they're only marginally better and it doesn't justify the price. It's only something mental and a point of pride at that point. Honestly, you're 3 biggest price points new cigar lovers need to focus on, are the $5, $10, & $20 price ranges. THAT'S where it's at! Save the $50 occasional stick like Padron exclusives and Arturo Fuente(Best Nicaraguan & Dominican brand's across the boards, respectively imo) exclusives and you can't go wrong! Pssst- forget about the $100 stick, it's a unicorn, it doesn't exist. Only in your imagination...

If I was given $100 that I had to spend I’d get some $25/30+ cigars. Things that I’d not buy myself but I’m intrigued to try - I wana see if they having something better than the $20 cigars; if the answer is yes and I’m given another $100 I’d try the $100 cigar…but there are still many $25+ cigars that I haven’t tried that I want

I’ve never had a cigar over $40 that’s worth it, I’ve had some great ones over $40, but you can easily find below $40 cigars that blow them away.

Yeah, $10.00 in Canada is garbage. Canadian here. $15 is probably the start. My rough sense is that Canadian prices are roughly 2x or more of US prices. Padrons are roughly $40 or more here, so if this were available in Canada (it’s not), would be a $200 stick.

Canadian here aswell .... I used to order cigar chief but now unreliable and never in stock.... start ordering smokes from the US to the border....cheap freight forwarders do it ... I go a few times a year or I know a few truckers who will pick them up for me ... its win win 🏆

When I walk into a Cigar shop with $100, I spend it this way; 1- $50, 2 -$20, 1- $10. I prefer to smoke quality over quantity, that being said I know that there are $10 cigars that are great, but they are far in between. My daily smokes are davidoff and R&J Wide Churchill, in my 20+ years of smoking cigars I find those are the cigars that I enjoy the most, so I smoke what I like, otherwise what is the point?
I know some people who like to try many cigars, and a lower price points offer that flexibility, so I get it that. To each their own.
I purchased and smoked the Rocky Patel $100 Conviction. It was a good-quality cigar, but not even close in enjoyment to my $12-$25 favorites. IMHO, this $100-a-stick fad is just a marketing gimmick.
