The period of government spending that increased the GDP was during preparation for the FIFA world cup. South Africa is far from exhausting infrastructure investment nor addressing historical inequality. The soviet union had zero percentage unemployment through it's socialist oriented anti-market economic policy. Not only was every individual guaranteed a job in the soviet union, every technological innovation in the soviet union reduced the working hours of their workers (while their wage was not reduced). Currently, in our pro-market south Africa, every technological innovation results in more unemployment because the business owners will make more money if they have to employ and pay less people while the people that aren't fired still work the same hours and same pay.
