For what NANOGrav actually does to detect gravitational waves I recommend watching the earlier parts of my NANOGrav playlist. As for why it is important, most of what we've been able to learn about astronomy comes from studying light from distant objects, but not all objects emit light and light can be blocked by interstellar dust. By "seeing" gravitational waves we have an entirely new way do astronomy, both studying systems we have seen and new ones that we can't detect any other way

Great video. As you mentioned the colliding galaxies, shouldn't they produce "burst" type as well ? I mean a lot of object (stars, neutron stars, blackholes) passign by each other or are they too small ?

Correct. If an object traveling at a constant velocity emitted gravitational waves as well it would violate conservation of momentum.

Generally as the individual stars in a galaxy pass by each other they will produce burst GWs but like you said their GW amplitude is much too small to detect by any current means. Also, for ~solar mass sized objects, if they pass by close to each other the wave frequency will be too high for NANOGrav to detect (LIGO could see these higher frequency GWs if they were MUCH more powerful). The supermassive black holes give both strong, low frequency waves that NANOGrav is sensitive to

How the nanograv actually works .and why is it important to study gravitatonal waves.Does it effect the physical nature if the waves were too high ......

I have now completed watching every single of your videos. Thanks for the great content.
I'm slightly sad on behalf of the human race that series about how to put on makeup has millions of views. Good luck with the detector, I expect one of the teams will get a Nobel price some short time in the future while the other content providers will continue to apply more and more paint to their faces.
