Always enjoy your video format. Keep up the awesome content!
So I have a Surface Pro 5 with 16GB, I7 and 1 TB hard drive. I bought it used and for basic productivity it works. I'm a pastor and the low profile form factor is invaluable for keeping my notes in front of me, but out of the way. However, I also edit video and for that -- I have switched to a MacBook Pro M1. So do my research and content creation on the Mac and load everything into OneNote and use the Surface for presentation and it seems to work. Great video!
Nice to hear from a fellow pastor who has a passion for tech. :)
Used to have a Surface Book Gen 1. Using a MBP M1 13 nowadays. But still OS agnostic :)
Is the surface pro any good for editing for you? I was thinking about having it for everything, editing some small videos, writing sermons, preaching from it, and whatnot, I mean I'm not programming off it but I would like some input, was thinking about surface pro 8
One of your best videos yet! What can I say? I'm a Cherlynn Low fan😁
Another great review! Still have my surface 3 and it is still chugging along nicely.
damn it lasted that long?
@@applecrazy1 yep
my SP4 screen is fritzing out when it gets hot so time for a new one. Might just try and get an 8...
My daughter is using my Surface Pro 3. I just traded in my SP7 for an SP9, and loving it!!
watched your video on my Macbook Pro using wired headphones. Cannot understand the fascination with eliminating the headphone jack. But I'm old. Enjoyed your video in spite of the missing headphone jack.
I have a Surface Pro 6 and I bought a year ago it's awesome still. Buy one or two generations old and you'll get a good price.
so cozy warm, this video is💗
thank you!
Nice review!
Can i do graphic design with it? I normally use illustrator work on really big file... would like to get a slim smart laptop like this, but I don't know anything about computer 🙈
Worth the upgrade from a surface pro 6? I only use it for study and streaming Netflix. Cheers
Does the battery still drains and be empty in a couple of days just like the old versions. I had the pro 4 and stop buying the next gen due to this issue, but I love the color blue so I wanted to make sure the issue was fix before I will buy one. Hope someone can help me. Thanks
Great review. I have pro 9 intel. It’s great for what I need it for. Question, at 7:23, what’s that shadow that moves over left shoulder in the background.
I'm a teacher, and this type of laptop will work wonders for me, as I don't have my own classroom and I have to move from one place to another. The lightweight is so attractive for me.
I currently have the MSP4 with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB with Intel Core i5. I do play The Sims 4 in it with all the Expansion, Game and Stuff Packs, and a few kits in a low-to medium performance settings. However, the flickering makes me use it as a desktop. Can I use this laptop for both work and gaming? I would like to play with better graphics, though. Thanks in advice!!
I feel this kind of laptops are still an experiment from Microsoft, i know you mentioned it's targeting enterprise clients, but somehow doesn't look like they do much marketing even for that customers.
Nice to have this video in my notifications and also again, happy birthday
Thank you, Chemy!
I'm getting one for uni, and I am going to use one note for note taking mon-fri and then tablet mode for placements
Wired headphones are awesome.
Still a Surface Pro X owner. I can’t wait for the snapdragon 8cx gen 4. Maybe windows 12 by then. Surface Pro X has the apps I need. Full blown Microsoft Edge, Microsoft office, and Lightroom (arm). That’s all I need. I utilize google drive as a Microsoft Edge Web App.
I’m using Surface Pro 8 is very portable and stable
Awesome Video just catching up on what is new and what is available,But love following the same people I do to keep me updated with new and any changes that come. I am also looking to see what is out there & how it can benefit me in future. I see while some have some of what I need just not enough of what I’m looking for.Great to see how far they have gone too. Thanks for sharing this because makes my decision that much easier.Great Work and look forward to catching more.✌️💯
Hi there Unlocker, mad respect from India, here the i5 and the i7 models are separated by a whopping premium of $500, although I am not a very power hungry user, or a content creator, just a researcher....still when I do research, I can have in excess of 20 tabs open and a few excel, word and Pdfs open... I have an Xbox and hence gaming is not a need at all with this device....I still rock a MacBook Pro i5 8th Gen with Touch Bar, which seems to be failing on me anytime soon, it has gotten sluggish especially after the latest Ventura Update, I am done with Macs and I always wanted a surface for the longest time I remember.....although getting an M1 or an M2 makes a lot of sense, I am asking you honestly, If I were to switch to a Surface, would this be a good year to do so...? I am eyeing the i5 12th intel model with the keyboard and pen that costs roughly $1800....Please Advise!
I wish there would be a Surface Pro with an M1 processor, it would probably be the greatest device on earth
There’s a new windows tablet with a ryzen apu (same graphics performance of rog ally and legion go) called Minisforum V3 coming out soon. Maybe that’s something. There’s also a new arm based laptop chipset from snapdragon that supposedly beats the m2 called the X Elite. I don’t think there are any confirmed tablets using that chip yet though.
What camera do u use?
I live your reviews because you usually wait to do your reviews until you have used it. This is a device I am considering purchasing. I use the MacBook Pro 16 I would like a windows machine.
Heck yes on the Real World test on the Super73. Please! Before I do! 😝
Ok, so if you were running lightroom, which version is best???
From the prices I am hearing here, I must have gotten a great deal. I got a platinum i7, 16GB RAM / 256GB SSD brand new for 985.
Originally I had contemplated ordering a Surface Pro 9 with the SQ3 processor since I really wanted a tablet/laptop with built-in 5G and those are currently few and far between. But then I realized that it really did not make sense to pay more for a computer that is literally less capable than the x86 variant whose battery life has now sort of become "good enough" to the point where ARM's 20+ hours of battery life doesn't seem as impressive/important anymore.
I think a better solution is to use a dedicated 5G hotspot like the new one from Netgear with mmWave and pair that with the laptop of your choice (or the Intel Surface Pro 9).
Or better still, tether your phone
@@nhaezer5121 it's best to have a portable battery pack for keeping your phone powered as you tether because tethering still eats up your phone's battery quickly even if modern Android phones have hardware-accelerated tethering
I wonder if -- Scrivener -- works wel on the sq3 version.
I personally am interested in a surface pro with LTE / 5G for use with writing software like scrivener, evernote, notebook, five different kinds of internet browsers, office 2021 or what it's called (the non subscription variant) and entertainment like netflix, spotify etc.
I feel like they should offer a LTE/5G version of laptops as a standard nowadays.
What is the difference between intel and Microsoft version?
I’m currently using SPX SQ2 on the go. Love the size and weight. My SLS is my desktop. Is the upgrade to the SP9 SQ3 worth it?
How do you feel about size? I picked one now upgrading from my go3 and it feels so huge! I’m afraid I can’t use it so often like I used with the go
Can you hook up a printer to the SQ3 version. that seems to be a problem I'm having. I need the 5g version
I really like the idea of an ARM-powered Windows device, but I'm not quite sold on the 2-in-1 Tablet form factor with Windows. Did you find the screen size too small for your daily tasks?
I think it's entirely bearable if you are already used to 13-14 inch screens. Nearly all of the computers I've used have been no more than 14", so the 16" laptops feel gigantic to me. The biggest issue I've had with the 13-14" are when im wanting to multitask for longer periods of time, but they handle my school load (engineering) perfectly fine
The pasta looked tasty.
Is there a big difference between i5 and i7 variant
love this video!!! 😅😂 for obvious reasons!!!
I have the i5 surface pro 9. Been using it as my daily work pc now for a bit. I have a very decent Lenovo gaming laptop as my home/work/gaming pc. I have to say that the surface is completely underrated and is more than capable in many work loads specific to pc content. For one example, most laptops that offer very high performance at the same price, lose a lot of performance when unplugged. Often times making them much slower while the batteries only last 2-4 hours respectively. The surface pro does not slow its processor at all when unplugged. If it needs all 10 cores with its full wattage, it will have access to it when unplugged. This is a huge bonus as it still retains very good battery life. Don't sleep on these devices as a work computer.
Thank you for your review
I’m mad they discontinued the surface book, I love my surface book 2 and was hoping to get an upgrade in 2-3 more years but that was crushed
What about the Surface Studio Laptop? Or you preferred the ability to disconnect it and use as a tablet?
@@TheUnlockr the disconnecting aspect was what sold me it. Sometimes in class when I didn’t want the base and was only using one note for notes id throw the base in the bag and use the tablet only. The surface studio laptop just doesn’t feel the same to me
@@matthewisrail makes sense for that use case for sure!
I feel like I should gift you a coffee pot.
Greenpoint Born and Raised. Best place on Earth.
Nice! 🙎🏾♂️👍🏾👍🏾
maybe i missed it but what is the battery live?
You mentionned losd of 10% intel and 6 on sq but during which time period ?
a whole day or 1 hour or ...?
Ah it's over 30 mins (you can see it in the screen grab by looking at the time on the laptop screens but I should have mentioned it outloud to make it easier).
@@TheUnlockr ok thank you. Could be better but then it seems intel chips dont seem to be that great.
Have you noticed that the tablet gets hot ? Another reviewer mentioned it really got hot when charging so tnat would make it unusabke when using it as a tablet ?
I'm in construction and use BlueBeam Revu a lot on my desktop. It would be nice to know if Bluebeam works on the i7 16gb 128G version, as this is all I'd use it for (for site walks & meetings)
Also, I've found it difficult to find which i7 chip is used.
I have a surface pro 3 that blue beam works on. I'm actually updating to the surface pro 9 since the pro3 is starting to slow down since I have other applications open. My pro9 should arrive today! Good luck
@@11ORTIZ11hi
how is performance so far? and what type/specs you bought?
Yes, it is a great device for construction. i just try not to keep it in to dusty aeras, have to remember the vents
are open
“Let me record myself in a restaurant with a laptop for 4 minutes”
Way longer than 4 mins 😂
How heavy is the surface. I use Microsoft surface 4 laptops at work and they a really flat, clunky keyboard. I don't recommend it for the typing experience.
Coffee ✅
Great vid as usual.
Qualcom's Arm still has a lot to catch-up, if they plan to beat Apple's M silicon in the near future.
Thank you! And yeah, I've curious to see when they launch Oryon to see how that does.
Can you run versaworks?
Good review mate! While I like the form factor of the device and it's portability, the price is pretty insane for what they offer. If you are okay with using a Mac, might as well buy an M1 Air and an iPad for the best of both worlds. Or plenty of Windows Ultrabooks, which also offer touchscreen and are more powerful. Just my two cents, but this won't fit my use case at the very least!
I totally agree. Surface prices are completely out of whack. I would pick up a Surface Go 3 or Surface Pro 9 in a minute but that price (and added price for the keyboard) make it less useful and appealing.
Absolutely 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯
@TheUnlockr I hope people see this before they order the keyboard: The keyboard with fingerprint reader explicitly does not support the Surface Pro 9, as you can see in the video too!
Can we power the machine through the USB-C port using a USB-C cable?
yes but ports can power device
Ehh I mean almost all wacom EMR pens have erasers. As far as why most other companies move away from them...because it's inherently less efficient? While it's intuitive for people who learned to write with a pencil to use an eraser it's faster to press a button and not flip your stylus.
Not quite there yet for me for that price
I have the SP8 and use it every day but not so much the pen, mainly because it is noisy when the pen makes comtact with the screen, similar to the clacky sound of the Apple Pencil. I am conscoius of this most in a meeting. The Samsung Tab S8 pen is silent.
Great review. Somehow I thought thunderbolt was co designed by Intel (mainly) and Apple. Maybe that’s why Macs still have.
May be wrong on that 🤷🏽♂️
Apple and Intel designed it but Apple held the trademark while Intel held most of the IP and Apple eventually transferred the trademark to Intel a while ago
@@TheUnlockr thank you! Appreciate you took the time to see and respond. New subscriber incoming. I’d seen channels from your shared office buddies (like Mr Mobile) but not yours. A lot of good talent in the same building!
My Microsoft surface tablet is like 4ish years and still in good working condition. It is much better than using a tablet since it is both a working laptop and a tablet.
I wanted to buy this to use as my main laptop as a student and some light programming.. do u think its a good option?
@@rf7046 yes u can consider the MS surface tablet. It's versatile.
That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing
What's up with that hoodie? Didn't quite catch what you said about it in the video.
It's an electric heated hoodie! 😬
Insider tip: The Intel processor lacks an NPU. The SW features you mentioned for the camera are all AI based and thus require an NPU. QC has built in full-blown NPUs. When Intel upgrades their SoC to include an NPU, the intel version will get the same features. There are NPUs on some of the latest Intel SoCs, and some are very low power and thus cannot support the full suite of SW features.
No AI requires an NPU. It can run on the CPU, the difference is an NPU is purpose built for machine learning tasks and can do so faster and more power efficiently. An NPU is not required for machine learning/AI but it is absolutely preferred.
I still have surface laptop from 2017.
I haven't faced a single problem really
Maybe the processing speed might be low with 7th gen core I 5
But it is still great. The one underrated thing about surfaces is their lifetime.
I think i have the same model! It's worked great for the last few years but the system files eventually got corrupted
@@Mehdiiakh Hopefully you backed up your files and then replaced the drive?
Biggest Q in the block, would you use this as a daily driver instead of an M1/M2 Macbook Pro
No, of course not. As mentioned this isn't for video editing and more creative tasks, it's for productivity.
You have to figure what you are using for. Graphics and video go for mac
as someone who is in IT, we call these as well as ipads "Frisbees"
Is Firefox and Chrome working on the ARM version? Thanks
Yup they both do
@@TheUnlockr thank you
Qualcomm Oryon Nuvia Processor for Windows Laptop coming in 2023
Can't wait
The loss of the headphone jack on the laptop makes no sense. A laptop is an on the go device so wireless headphones add to the portability.
"I rarely have a pair of wired headphones on me" - The companies have finally succeeded
Removing headphone shocket is causing more e waste.
Totally not me trying to boot up my OG Surface Pro 1 to see if it still works. Will let y'all know 😆
How long does the battery last ?
watch the video
@@lionintu I did
@@nhaezer5121 yeah youre right he totally didnt mention the amount of hours in total. Sorrry my friend
@@lionintu no worries
I bought Surface Pro 9 and the one thing I didn’t like was the battery life. It lasted only 4 hours
I think you might need to return in your unit, cause even at the worst-case scenario it lasts at least about 7hrs.
@@pixel_Freak I did and I got an iPad Pro. I still love the idea of a windows tablet, and surface build quality was amazing. The usage did vary based on what I was doing, on teams meeting the battery drain was extreme
@@dunantm3512 If you don't mind, what does your usage consist of?
I had the same problem and alternate between using the SP9 and M1 iPad now to make things work.
It’s a personal computer in addition to my work laptop so I’ve just lived with it.
Otherwise nice device. I have 8GB ram Aviv hi do sometimes regret but so far hasn’t really given me slowdown.
You lost me at no headphones jack.
I still find windows laptops to this day interesting and fun to use, that being said though, this one is a hard sell for me. While the Pro 9 seems to be a good laptop, and the price is decent, I am a little nervous about getting one. One of the big issues I have heard with the Microsoft laptops has always been bad.
As someone who has the entire surface line, starting with the surface studio, 2+ down to a surface pro eight. I agree with your comment about windows laptops not being fun. I’ve had no issues Microsoft surface products have amazing build quality, however, become uninspiring in a very short period of time. I don’t fault the surface product team, more than Windows is just boring. I keep going back to my MacBook Pro.
Lack of a headphone jack on Surface Pro 9 is a shame to me.
Yup, and the fact we get a smaller battery than last year too. Truly baffling and shows Microsoft's terrible ambition for the product, lack of customer satisfaction is in mind
Nice! ☕✅
thank you for watching!
Its just a truck , I wouldn’t mind
Meanwhile im using the pro 3
