How did I never end up training myself thoroughly and regularly in problem solving?
Banged my head against this problem on my own for a little more than 2 hours without coming to a final answer, very humbling to peek back at the video and see that it was done in less than 9 minutes in a very different way than I would have imagined it, how much of an idiot can I be?
For reference I’m in my 4th year of a math undergrad at a pretty good and respected uni, but I would be no match for the average 9th grader prepping for the AMC10. Should I just end it? Goes to show that no matter how deeply you love something that only some people are going to end up with talent.

I feel that man. Many ppl say that anyone can study math and be good at it but that just isn't true. You really do need a natural knack for it sadly.
However, one can improve slightly by practicing a lot.

If you still solved it that's amazing. If you've passed to your 4th year, you're clearly good enough at math already to do it. Just wondering, but what kinds of careers were you thinking of going into in the future? I don't know much about pure mathematics careers, except for that practical stats is in decent demand. People often don't end up doing what they studied in college anyway. You really don't have to be a super genius to do what you love :)

I'm an 8th grader and here's a little something I realized while prepping for the AMC contest series: Don't think of these problems as math problems but rather logic puzzles that involve math. Problem solving and Math are 2 different things (that work well together). One can be used in many aspects of life and the other is just Math. Try to solve these problems the way you might play a chess puzzle or a sudoku game (and have fun while doing so). Most importantly be creative!
