I watched this today an hour before I got mine put in, mine didnt hurt, just felt like a period cramp, but now it's been a few hours the cramps have got worse. Luckily I also have ben and Jerry's in the freezer and a hot water bottle x
I had the coil fitted in April and had spotting for 3 months. But then on the 3 month anniversary it stopped and hadn’t had anything at all since. Best health decision I’ve ever made. My skin was also worse for a bit but it got back to normal.
I've just had a mirena fitted last tuesday! 6 days in and the cramping is spectacular! The pain of insertion, omg! I took nothing beforehand and no numbing either! So glad my husband took the following day off too! My hot water bottle is my new BFF. But I got this done for endometriosis relief. Romcoms, yes, lots of romcoms. (And the odd christmas film). Take care of yourselves if you have it done.
11:35 this was literally my reaction then I got it done! 😂😭 Thanks for making this video, I got the IUD literally yesterday (and I took public transport back home alone, not fun, don’t recommend), I was on the depo before and it was awful, I put on so much weight, my skin (which was fine before) started breaking out like crazy which got worse after each depo shot and I got really severely depressed, I was a complete mess, so I’m really hoping the IUD will be much better, my doctor told me the hormone is more localised in the uterus and usually only gives pms symptoms, I’ve heard you can also use the pill on top of the IUD if you really want to help with your skin but I’ve had bad experiences with the pill aswell. It was comforting listening to this video in a way, I don’t know anyone who has the IUD so it’s nice hearing about other people’s experiences and relating to them. Hopefully the pain will be worth it 😭😭
I’m getting the IUS on Thursday after being on depo for just over 3 months. Do you find the IUS is better for your mental health? Depo has made me really anxious and depressed and I want to be reassured this will help! 😩
I got the non hormonal one fitted yesterday didn't feel a thing and I didn't know i had to take painkillers before the procedure. I walked there and walked back home. I did have cramps for the rest of the night but nothing I couldn't handle without painkillers. Next morning I was totally fine I did my weight training for an hour. I'm perfectly fine however everyone's different. Bear in mind I haven't had children either. Plus I never have period pains only pain I get is sore breasts when I come on my period so cramps are a new experience for me. However I was on an implant contraception for 1.5 years and I did not stop bleeding EVERY SINGLE DAY 😭 till I got it out. I tried taking tablets the nurse gave to control the bleeding but it never worked. I took 2 courses of those tablets.
Just got mine. I got the 10 year one (even though I doubt I'd keep it for so long). My nurse was female and so was the assistant, they were both really nice and I got to hold the assistants hand while doing it because it hurts like hell. However at least it's a small price to pay instead of getting pregnant and pushing out some giant baby head. Try breathing exercises and talk with your nurse during it to distract you plus take some ibuprofen beforehand. I was also given paracetamol by the nurse to take after which helped. Also wear a pad or liner when you go
Just had my mirena fitted two days ago so been binge watching videos like this. Turns out we went to the same clinic and they played the exact same Bridget Jones scene for me whilst they inserted it!! Thought that was too funny 😂
I am 2.5 years into my Mirena. LONG COMMENT AHEAD, I AM SORRY🤣♥️ I had had severe lows while on the pill and was afraid of full body hormones again, similar to the way you explained your reasoning vs the bar implant. Unfortunately I live in the US and "family planning" was not covered on my health insurance for me, so I paid 900$ out of pocket (which is cheaper than paying for monthly pills x5 years, and far cheaper than having a child). I do have to say it is the best money I have spent, besides my Master's degree. It should not cost that much for anything 😔 I don't want to run on a ranty tangent, though I could. After my insertion I had a continuous period for 2+ months, but in a super light flow with different (thick, ew sorry) consistency. By 6-8 months my period "normalized" to the way it is now. Most months I have very light spotting though it lasts far longer in time than my normal period (10-14 days). It hasn't dissappeared yet, but is so light I only wear the thin panty liners. ACNE- SAME, GIRL SAME. Ugh, I'm sorry for us all as women! I saw a dermotologist and take a daily pill of doxycycline hexaltate 100mg. It's a super low dose of an antibiotic. I was concerned taking that daily but have sought council with several Drs and my cousin who's a pharmacist and assured it's ok. I'm sure the NHS has some equivalent but ask for something! It wouldnt go away with anything but I started taking it almost a year ago and wished I had started it sooner, I have perfect skin now! I had missed a refill once, thought I would be ok, and had a massive breakout. There's definitely something awful about hormonal acne but see your GP or skin Dr, I wished I had sooner. Anyways I'm so happy you took control of your uterus. Good luck, and it will be wonderful not to have to remember a pill every day, eventually you forget it's there. Thank you for continuing to normalize period and health by just talking about it with facts and feelings. Can't wait to see what you make next Emma!
Thanks abunch for sharing this, am going through this and I thought I should remove it, so I can be free. My face that used to be perfectly clean, now there's acne, well, I will wait to 👀
great video, I'm not planning on getting the coil but it was interesting to get a bit more info! Funnily enough in regards to acne, when I came off the combined pill my spots were insane lol, it was as if the last so many years just all broke out in my face at once. I ended up on the mini-pill and I've went back to normal skin. Crazy what kind of effects it can have on your body!x
I have a mirena coil as I have severe endometriosis and had it to calm my symptoms. I didn't feel a thing when having it inserted but I will add that I have had two vaginal deliveries so that does help lol. However I'll just add a warning for my fellow ladies out there. Don't use a menstrual cup with an IUD. I waited 6 weeks before starting to use mine again as I was spotting now and again. Then one day when I removed the cup my coil came out with it😩. It was awful. I'd had pain the day before, I'm guessing that was because the coil had been moved gradually with my use of the cup. There's a little suction when you remove menstrual cups even when you think you've squeezed all the air out. I told my doctor and she said she'd had several women say the same thing so they are now advising against the use of menstrual cups with the coil. I've just had a new one put in last week. I got a bad UTI the day after, I'm unsure if that's just related the having the coil fitted or just coincidence. I'm really hoping it's the latter as the coil have been amazing for my endometriosis symptoms. While I had it in I hardly had any pain, no nasty flare ups like I usually get. I personally didn't get any weight gain, headaches (and I suffer with migraines) or acne etc. Here's hoping it'll be just as effective the second time around. I will not be using a menstrual cup this time lol.
I have Mirena for 8 months. I eat healthy but I’ve gained 8lbs. I also have no reason to be this tired. I’m just home with the kids who are not even little and take care of themselves however… I am very, very tired. Fatigue!! Anyone else feeling this way ??
I had a fibroid removed and then put the coil in....this was in November 2021....I have been bleeding ever since. Feel absolutely exhausted. And my husband can feel it when in......
I should have watched this before having mine. I literally just came back from my fitting and OH HOLY SHIT IT HURTS GOING IN 🤣🤣 Like you said tho, worth it in the long run if it suits!
I had my mirena coil put in this year, it's not been a month yet so very recent and it didnt hurt me but it's the heavy periods that im not keen on, I get cramps and back pain sometimes going to see how it goes.
I've been tracking my cycle with 'Maya' (picked it since that's my name spelled differently haha) since I was about 15 (so 4+ years now) and it's really good!
I’m scared I never wanted the coil because of the pain but I need contraception but really don’t want hormonal contraception anymore so I feel like I’m out of options 😞
@K A dont do it. Honestly almost a year ago i had mine done and i get my period 5 days early every month, its 10x heavier than its ever been, the pains are still crazy bad. I wont even have it removed im to scared. Condoms all the way mate honestly
It hurts folks but not tooooo bad. She definitely describes it good. The measuring is painful the insertion hurts most like a v v deep ache for five seconds. Id rather have another tattoo done over that but it is what it is. Protected for 10 years gotta be worth it ;)
Hi! I really want to get the coil (and have booked an appointment) but I'm very close to cancelling because of all the horrifying stories I've heard online! I know no one who has it so I can't ask them but I'm super scared about the procedure itself. I've heard some people say it's worst then childbirth, like what?!
For someone that has recently gone through childbirth I can’t imagine it could possibly be as bad surely!! I am a bit worried now of getting this though just incase 🤣
I just got mine about 8 days ago my obgyn said that mine is good for 8 years wahoo lol I also found out that I have endometriosis the day that I had the mirena put in. I really hope that this helps
Does the thinning of the uterus lining and the stopping of ones period not cause infertility? I’m considering changing my BC but that doesn’t sound right to me idk
while you have it in then yes obviously the whole point is not getting pregnant, but once out your fertility goes back to normal within a couple cycles, that's one of the reasons I swapped to it. There are lots of link in the description tho if you wanna read up more or anything's confusing!
I got mine put in today because of very heavy periods was a little bit painful but was fine after its 2 in the middle of the night and having a headache and can't sleep maybe side effects.
For me it huuurt for 4 times and really really uncomfortable. When they but the "mirror in" i felt my skin get stuck between it,and then when they took the clamps for the vag,was really intense pain one second and then twice when they measured and but the thing in that was baaaaad, and after it was done i felt excrusiating menstrual cramps and layd in bed, good thing its donne and my bf drove me home...if i had known how bad it was maby i hadnt done it att all.
Lol this was good to watch! I just had mine 4 or 5 days ago during my operation...but now just feeling like i have to go pee more often. Don't know if it is a uti but going to see my dr on monday
I dont think having sex or not will make a difference to pain levels as its inside the womb...the only thing that helps it be less is if youve given birth before
The copper one IUD gives you longer, heavier and more painful periods I've been told. Hence why I went for the hormone IUS. Please bear that in mind if you've already bad heavy periods. I recommend the app Clue. Also yes I thought the same thing about the pain... If that's as close to childbirth as I can feel then I'm fucking adopting 😂 I also got given a huge pad so girls please take a pad when you go!
Wow so interesting i have heard of iud before. I never had 1 maybe future. Sorry if i want to watch what it like n experience etc. Just incase if i want it in future. 👍
Unfortunately the coil didn't work for me😒... The process of putting it in was excruciatingly painful. Also I found that while I was walking on the street I could feel it inside me. It felt as if it was scratching the side of my womb. Which was very uncomfortable.
I removed my IUD one year and 6 months now because I was not comfortable with it , and I just stayed with it for 2 years! but i still feel as if I have it in my uterus and also some little pain , what could be the reason, is it normal feeling after removing it ! Am worried now !

Got the coil fitted today, watched this video before my appointment and was very reassuring and insightful. Hopefully this method suits me 🤞🏼
Was it painful for you?

Honestly so glad I’m getting this while I’m asleep during a laparoscopy instead of awake and aware
