    Christians work in all fields. Are we only supposed to work for Christian companies to be truly Christian? Why are the arts different?

    I can relate to you as far as being completely misunderstood. Just had a thought that most of the Christian labels are underneath the umbrella of bigger mainstream labels, and thus the companies are going to want to maximize their reach, their profit. Thats all i see- corporatization. Very few people understand the Biblical worldview. Thank you for your authenticity ❤ Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

      Amen! For sure, developing a Biblical worldview is complex, difficult, uncomfortable at times, and a lifelong journey.....but it's also very nourishing and fulfilling. It's much easier to pick your fav verses and settle there. Hence why many don't try building a robust Biblical worldview. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.     I totally relate with all you said in the part 1 of this video.
    I also find it uncomfortable that Christian's emotions and devotions are profited off from.
    Like a lot of things don't just make sense... We just have to accept it or get rejected

    I just found your channel, and I so appreciate what you have to say about the Christian music industry, and music in general. I've been actively seeking out better music from a Christian worldview that's not necessarily worship music.

      I would recommend the group CityAlight for "modern" theologically rich music. It's hard to find Christian music that adhers to the Bible as opposed to the spiritual beliefs and traditions of a certain denomination (like Bethel). This group has many songs that I would call hymns, and others that are in a more modern style (like the song God is for Us). I don't want to take away from what Shope is talking about, because I think he's right. I just wanted point this bans out for the kind of Christian music that is more oriented towards praise and worship.

    Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
    If Christian artists are ministers, Paul confirms they can make a living off of the gospel.

    6:00 Not only. The Apostle Mark preached the Gospel in Egypt and was martyred there. The Coptic Church (a major branch of Christianity in Africa, about 9 million in Egypt) comes from Mark, the Apostle. Augustine was African, from Hippo in Algeria.

    Money most definitely is a tool. A necessary tool for a comfortable life. I never gave money importance because of my lack of self control. I can't get a hold of money without abusing it. Knowing this, I limit the capacity of money that I make, giving me enough for things I need and little wiggle room for personal gratification. I've been happier valuing relationships and peace of mind far more than giving that value to money.

    Shope: Your right, the issue is that people does not read the bible from its cultural perspective on what the words mean. People mentally, re-translate the bible into there own cultural experience. Nothing in the bible can be understood unless you active in the cultural perspective. Most of the problems you adress, is what the truth is. people don't preach the Gospel of Christ, (only christ). what Jesus stated in mattew, and john about what the Gospel is i have never heard in any church i have been involved in. Churches is becoming more concerned about how much people, and influence in the community, that the Gospel actually is never talked about. The churches music industry shows this as well. To compromise the faith of Christ for financial gain. The church has not taught the actual Gospel of Christ in over 1700 years.

    13:18 exactly. theres this limited and close minded perspective that in order to practice christianity you must be in fields that are explicitly christian. believing this is like saying you actually dont believe that god has no ability to use any field to spread love. everybody has a calling, just cause its not at church doesnt mean theyre not serving.

    "Christians in music should never take any credit for their talent. It's not about them. It's all about Jesus. ... They shouldn't receive any accolades." This sounds similar to what I heard someone say about Pastors, "All pastors should be poor and struggling to provide for their families - otherwise they are not really serving God's kingdom; they're just in it for the money." While I have concerns about Pastors who are rich and seem to use the gospel (often a false gospel) to manipulate their congregations to make money, I think Paul's point in 1st Corinthians 9:9 seems to be that it's okay to honor people who serve in the church by providing for them financially.
    Christian song writers, Pastors, or whoever else we may put on pedestals are really just brothers and sisters in Christ who God uses in a very visible & public way, but we make a mess of things by treating them as some sort of super-Christian. They are not Jesus Christ, and our occupations aren't any less holy.

    This is why I prefer Tidal Wave by Owl City over Oceans; while both do sing about struggling and hanging onto God, Tidal Wave is far more emotionally connective, not super overt on God's saving grace while the song still has a heart of God, and it just hits so much harder in my own subjective opinion.
    The same could be said for Oceans, but I just prefer Tidal Wave overall and I hope it didn't come across as disrespectful to Oceans if it is your favorite song. Thank you for reading this if you have read this :)

    Hey, I actually don't listen to any secular music, and I don't listen to Christian music that much except hymns and some newer songs that are about Jesus coming to rapture us. I do agree that a man is to be the leader of his family and provide for them with his work, and I assume that you are married to the wife of your youth (and you are her first husband too). Do you know that we are in the very last days of the church age and that the pre-Tribulation rapture is about to happen? It's our blessed hope, and most of the Christians are not talking about it. Glad that you are born again, and still serving the Lord, and soon we will be in heaven singing face to face to Jesus Christ. Maranatha.

    full disclosure - I'm not a fan of rap music and have never even heard of Shope until wandering into the predecessor of this video. With that said, I have much respect for Shope and agree with him. Christian pop music was not like this in the 80s when I came to Christ. It was underground and extended from the convictions of the artists without industry hindrances. Metal and punk were especially confrontational along the lines of Larry Norman. This is the vibe Jesus Rock was all about but money interests have killed CCM.

    3:10 Please double check your quotes before you publish them. I am a biblical Greek scholar and I'll give you a fresh translation from the Greek: "10 For the brotherly love of money is being a root of all evil things, for which some stretching forward are deceived into getting lost from off of the persuasion of faith, and pierce themselves all about in many sinking sorrows." 1 Timothy 6.10 [TRW] Since the Christian music industry is NOT the faith, there is no concern about you leaving that. You should leave it, because they are all false teachers in it, according to God in 2 Peter 2.3 AS FOR going into the secular music industry, no! You must not yoke yourself to an unbeliever in any contracts or partnerships.

    God judges the motives of the person even if they are making Christian music or working at a church. So, if you're a Christian artist with the wrong motives. you're really a hypocrite. The Bible says I will bless whatever you put your hands to do.

    What is the purpose of being a follower of Christ?
    What did Christ do while He was on earth?
    Music is just an avenue to spread the Gospel and anything associated with the lost souls hearing the Truth, Satan is in it causing confusion and conflict because he wants to destroy God's Kingdom. You felt convicted to expose the Christian music industry to inform people about how they operate, now what?
    We were born into an existing Spiritual warfare and our souls are at stake, that's what God is concerned about, is those He chose to lead the lost to Him doing His Will or their own! ✌🏾❤️

    The very notion of Christian music/industry/artist, etc. makes no sense whatsoever. Music is a language. Industry is labor process with the main goal being high profit through high volumes and reduced costs. An artist is he who practices a form of art. None of them has inherently anything to do with Christianity but for some reasons you (and people in general) still cling to that kind of ideas and then try to rationalize your actions so it can reconcile with your faith. I'm just giving those as examples, it's far from being an exhaustive list. But the whole thing is a hamster wheel...
    What Christians lack, really, is basic understanding of human nature and behavior, and basic understanding of whatever thing they want to do : business, music, relationships, etc. Not expecting things to conform to your beliefs/feelings/opinions but truly understanding how things work and seeing it for what it is. Then you decide what you want to do based on your beliefs.
    You can enjoy looking at the clouds as much as you want, but at least keep your feet on the ground and take the time to look at the road to see where you're going...

    What you are doing is called Balaam's error, where he loved the wages of unrighteousness by selling his ministry for a price. While it is not "pimping out the message" as you put it, it is pimping out your ministry. And that is why Balaam was set as a template by which we identify false teachers and false prophets.
