This made me so happy to see my martial art cross over with one of my favorite martial arts youtubers! Just fyi, if you're ever in the Asheville nc area, we have practices multiple times a week!
Amazing energy. Seems like a very inviting and fun class which is an accomplishment when it comes to such a serious discipline as sword fighting. You can see him shouting over the students as he tells them to shout, likely to help shy students feel more comfortable really letting loose.
Could you please make a video about the "drunken kung fu" style. I really love your videos and each of the styles you've showcased have helped me grow my knowledge of martial arts and self defence
As a fellow short warrior who practices weapons, I find that once melee weapons are used the smaller or taller thinner fighters have an advantage over larger opponents most times. Combination of agility, reflexes, and being a hard target is more important than in unarmed fighting.
Indeed. But the when we are taking armor into account things once again fall back to big strong men, but then when we take bows and horses into account, then being small and thin is once again most effective. Yeah, things shift back and forth a lot
Yes, it has it's pros and cons. When sparring with short people I find that if I the opponent doesn't know how to counter my reach advantage it's very easy to hit them in the men before they can even get in range themselves. But at the same time it's limiting as I can no longer strike Do (chest)
This was amazing, the instructor was so cool, this looked extremely fun, you did really well for your first kendo lesson. For 11 years I've been self taught in japanese swordplay which I started from watching kendo to iaido and then kenjutsu training videos, I personally really like kendo and would love to join a kendo dojo one day, so watching this made me very happy, I enjoyed everything from this, so thank you very much for sharing this incredible video 😊.
Looked great fun, I think personally you have more experience with other Martial arts than the Japanese UA-camr, which is why you beat him in your match, not so much the technique, but your lack of tension giving you more relaxed free movement, ditto when you faced the teacher with his more effortless movement. I did find the last match with the 2 v 1 interesting, with the instructors movement, not just more free, but how he moved the two of you into position, so he only dealt with both of you minimal times, by putting the pair of you almost in each others way. great content Mr Lee.
As someone who has been doing kendo for almost 7 years now, this was pretty good for your first class, hope you enjoyed the keiko and keep doing some more kendo!
Dear Kevin, thanks for the video. Now that you've tried the Japanese version of fencing, don't you feel curious to learn more about the Chinese approach to that same science, i.e. fencing of the "Jiang" sword? That might be another interesting episode 🤔
Wow kevin you are very good, in such short and super semplified instruction (with very little instructions) you nailed it! Would be interesting if you would go a little more deep in the tecnique, what you saw was "playing with kids" Kendo has unique complexities! Hope you will go again on it
the noisiest martial art in the world. it seems great for your voice and breathing though :p when you're in japan, you should've visited syuutetsu and isujikuho guys. they seem to have instant method to empower your punches and kicks, at least from their youtube videos.
Very cool stuff! I understand it can be tough with a language barrier, but it would be interesting to talk to a kendo or iado practitioner about the similarities and differences between their arts and Kali, similar to what was done with Jesse Enkamp with Karate vs. Wing Chun
Let's Talk Shogo is an Iado trainee so he could probably help with the Iado portion if he can't find a master. I'd also like to see how Kenjutsu plays into all of it
Thanks for your smile that bring us so much good chi, yellow one I guess, kevin, only by seeing few of you're definitely my favorite contents creator! I raise up with wing chun, and I had done and do everyday TKD not sport, with a sabum that was prepared for 92 olympics and a former kyokushin kay master and even when he was with me at dinner before we start to swing OUR'S pizza with my wakizashi :) that's not true but he said, as he always said to me that I cannot let it go, and after 8years, a lot of times just me and he accept it and said: "even when we are at your table we got to keep our elbows close and tight cos this home is ruled by wing chun concepts, so heels out and watch elbows or troubles comes" ahahah Thanks again! dancing swingin a sword is soooo relaxing, if there were not sword, but yours, and even them trying hit you is kind more stressing!) @kevin lee
19:45 Bro, the instructor went ultra instinct for a moment. Overall great video
That instructor is amazing. Such high energy and charisma! Thank you for sharing God Bless
His English is pretty good too. Looks like he owns the Samurai Tour business. Dude's hustling.
Yes!! He is very good!!

¿Could you make a video on how to break our opponent's long guard in kickboxing ?👀👉👈
So enjoyable, what a good start to learn mastering your (wooden) sword to be an expert in kendo. The instructor is so inspiring.

My mom has stories of when she practiced kendo as a teen in Japan. Seems like a lot of fun, thanks for showcasing the art, Kevin!
I would love to do more Kendo!!

I love the energy shown by all! What a great experience. And now to watch the old anime series, Bamboo Blade...
You scored a point on your teacher/sensei : that is pretty good ! Well, you are not really a noob in terms of martial arts, but still!
Could you please make a video about the "drunken kung fu" style. I really love your videos and each of the styles you've showcased have helped me grow my knowledge of martial arts and self defence
Totally wasn't expecting to see my main martial art on this channel lol
You had a really good instructor, glad to see kendo getting some spotlight!
That looked like lots of fun. Thanks for sharing!!!

Great stuff! I martial arts training really helped with the first hurdle that beginners face which is stiffness or movement and striking too hard.

No, it is heavily practiced in Japanese schools
@@jacobharris954 I haven't seen,or have heard that it's heavily practiced in Japan. I'm glad it is. The mind needs discipline! Thank you.

Very good for a first attempt . Of course its easier when you have plenty martial arts experience but still. You looked very good.
Wow, Kevin got it right instantly, although Nagamatsu-sensei didn't translate. You're good! Is Nagamatsu-sensei 6th dan? It could even be above 🤔
Amazing experience!

Did you kick him later i mean did you show him some savate or maybe stick fighting? ^^
I should had try to kick him 😂
Why was Sensi counting "One, Two, Three" in Mandarin instead of in Japanese?
Haha yes, he was counting in Chinese for me and the other UA-camr. lol
Uhm Wing Chun is two blades and staff weapons style.
Isn't it?
Yes indeed
