    Speaking from Zwifting experience. If you’re coming into a race thinking “I’m pretty sure I can win this”, that means you need to cat up.

      True but also not true. In this race I knew that I could win it because of the terrain and field size. I’ve also seen how lots of these same races have played out in the past week or so, so I knew they tended to be relatively mellow. Zwift has me categorized as category C, but I choose to race B. As I rebuild fitness I’ll win to be in category A

    I've found it easier to convince others to chase by chasing myself. What I mean by that is I will start the chase and others will follow not wanting to get left behind. Once I notice that I will slow just a little bit to see if someone passes me. If after passing me they slow, I will speed up again. If the group passes me then all the better. That swapping will make for a faster chase group. If they don't follow, then I have the choice to settle back. You had at least one guy looking to work with you, but you never committed to going to the front. With less than a mile to go you never want to sit on the back of a big group. You can't see what power the front rider is pushing because it won't be on the board. Finally, yeah, you dropped the ball by not having Breakaway Brae dialed in... You see it twice in this race.

      100% this, I was going to comment, you typed in Chase, but I never saw you go off the front, to actually get anything to chase, you rolled to the "front" but never got on the front. Nothing worse, than someone saying chase, but then never getting up there to pull.

      This is so correct. Everybody in a zwift race these days is the master tactician, nobody wants to pull, even if it is possible to catch people up ahead.

    You're doing great for your age/weight! Don't worry too much about Zwift categories, they are super broken and no one really wants to be in A because that means you're racing against EVERYONE above 4w/kg, including the ultra elite and pros lol...

    I find it confusing that you are on finish line in 160's HR, while your max is probably over 200 I'd imagine. It seems like the mental game could be improved to actually push to the limit.

    Well in the same category, Zwift races always favor the heavier rider with more absolute power. Even courses like the volcano KOM favors the heavier rider. You are way too confident that you could win just because it's an uphill finish. With the high speed going into the uphill finish in the end, absolute power and aero still wins against lightweight and high w/kg. Your chances of getting podium was probably already over when you decided not to join the two men breakaway.

    • @chalkus

      That’s not accurate. Look at the weights of all the leading riders in the last scratch race of zrl!

    • @ZRaceCentral
      @ZRaceCentral  9 місяців тому

      I beg to differ. Yes, heavier riders have the advantage, the the point about high speed is certainly not valid. The speed was extremely low coming into the finish which is why having the legs to put out a big burst would have been extremely beneficial. Ride on

      Flat zwift races favour heavier riders. Seeing a light rider sit at 100-150 watts as in this video, and not getting dropped, shows clearly who is favoured. At 85 kilo I tend to sit at 220-240 watts when chilling in a c-cat race. It is unfortunately not like all the extra weight is muscle :-) The smaller rider obviously is more aero in zwift algorithm, so not sure what the aero wins comment is about. Up the volcano it is 90% watt per kilo.

    Well done, its hard to calculate when to go. I usually start sprinting just before the hard ramp to the left to give me an extra wee kick up. Great effort tho.
