    Lee Dong Woo was a comedian not a singer. he debuted in 2003 as a comedian and had been comedian for long time. then he lost his sight due to retinitis pigmentosa in 2010. He was also doing DJ at the radio station at that time, famous Korean jazz vocalist Woong San recommended him to be a jazz singer. and she trained and supported him. it is really beautiful story.

    • @luciayoon2965
      @luciayoon2965 4 роки тому +5

      @@xenato tin tin 5 was more of a comedian singing group rather than a serious music band, something similar to namolla family, they performed on stage and music was a tool for their comedy performance. Even Lee Dong Woo identified himself as a comedian, but yeah, he was identified as the member who gave the group the balladic voice

    I think Americans in general, are so specialized in their focus and interests, including genres of music, that the word "jarring" and "unexpected" are used so so much! For other people outside the US, there is more familiarity with music just being what it is, with various elements blended, mixed, used. So it's funny listening to many of the comments. However, with you guys, there is a great knowledge and openness that makes it okay and sincere. Also there is appreciation of it all. That's great. It's still funny to listen to American boundaries of normalization of music genres.

  • @kudgeond755
    @kudgeond755 5 років тому +61

    Unlike Stephen I like the mixed rhythms of Words Don't Come Easy - kpop's willingness to experiment with blending various genres is one of its main attractions for me and I think in this case it makes bossa sound fresh and interesting and is a perfect complement to their sensual, sexy voices. Isaac's comment about the vocal arrangement that takes advantage of their contrasting styles and timbres was right on. Mamamoo has re-imagined bossa nova several times, each completely different, such as Moonbyul's solo song Selfish and Waggy on their most recent album White Wind.

    As a brazilian I'd say the lack of drum groove bothers me, it is, really square. Also, flute is more used in bossa nova than sax but their choice added extra sexiness to the song. I love that their voices are so wonderfully displayed, so I ignore the weird beat XD

    Mamamoo's song is more K Pop than Lee Dong Woo's. I can hear Frank Senatra, Dean Martin or one of the other Rat Pack guys crooning that second song to a TV audience. Mamamoo's is more adventurouse in the K Pop mold with the multiple voices, the rap section, the harmonised backing vocals done by the members who are not singing the main vocal part. For me, there's more to listen to and discover in Mamamoo's song.

    Yeah Stephen had the right concept but the different "complimentary" rhythms are found within percussion instruments as a foundation and then the other rhythm section instruments are added on top of that in a 'real" Latin band. Or maybe that is what he meant to say (editing?) But his comments sounded very "jazz/ not Latin" orientated. (As in generally there are not 3 or more people playing percussion like there would be in a "real Latin band".)
