I lived between 2018 and 2022 in Japan. These kind of phone ia VERY popular among elderly in JP. When you take it with an appropriate plan it's almost free (beside the plan wich is outrageously pricy in comparison to my homw country, France). Anyway those phones will always remind me of Japan. I wish i bought one with a touch screen as a secondary phone for my business XD

I do prefer the Aquos SH-01J over the Digno 902KC solely on the fact that it has an in-built touchscreen inside the keypad. It's a real lifesaver when you want faster navigation inside the phone

Yeah saw that in youtube but for me i prefer one with cursor and not with scrolling function as I want to stop mindless scrolling anymore. Unfortunately this doesnt have selfie camera so it’s not for me

Hi Jose, I am planning to buy the updated KY-42C which is for a different mobile network provider here in Japan. I hoped the LPII to support more language and also be usable here but to no avail. Also considered the KY-01L but it lacks back (front) light and very small battery for even an e-ink screen. I really wish an updated KY-01L or a multilingual LPII.

Heyo, I'm wondering if the 701kc will work good enough in the US, I genuinely prefer it's styling over the 902kc or whatever it is. I'm honestly sick of smartphones and the unspoken addiction that comes with them, I wanna go back to when tech helped us, and didn't get in the way. Anyways, got off-track there, I currently have Verizon, but I'm trying to convince my family to switch to T-Mobile. Though if the 701KC isn't "usable" in the US, the 902KC does look nice.

I am extremely disappointed because I couldn't make it do anything without having to go through Google this, and Google that. Wouldn't let me download apps via Apks. Wouldn't let me download F-Droid. I must have tried 5x. It was possible I was doing something wrong, but the bottom line is, If I wanted an app, it had to be through the Google Play store. I finally factory reset it for now. This one doesn’t have Google at all. You can download apks, modify it without any input from google. It’s AOSP 8.1, so full android. Not the Go version.

The 701KC is less usable than the 902KC sadly. If you want a Ketai, the 902KC is your best bet.

In Japan they were sold under different carriers. One was Y mobile and one was softbank. Virtually the only difference

You can enable those letters with traditional T9 keyboard :)

errrrrrrrrrrrr i got my kyocera 701kc in the mail, AWESOME!!!!! but it can only text and receive text, and cant make or receive calls, maybe it has something to do with the few settings in hiragana
Check your apn settings
it still cant call or receive calls, but now there's a 4g icon next the the bars and i can load pages on the browser

It does run them, but you won't have the same experience as with a smartphone. It will be limited to offline maps like Organic maps.
