    • @roguedogx
      @roguedogx 3 роки тому +1

      the good news is you could probably calculate the power of the tesla by assuming it's max torque is at 60 MPH and just doing some statics to get the actual number. I'll pencil it out later.

    • @roguedogx
      @roguedogx 3 роки тому +5

      done. if anyone's interested (and this comes with one metric ton of assumptions that could be wrong), but
      Front motor: 293 hp and 263 lb-ft
      Rear motor: 485 hp and 390 lb-ft
      combined: 778 hp and 653 lb-ft
      but looking at the combined HP number I'm pretty sure I'm off. My guess as to how, is that the motors actually make peak power at a lower than I had previously thought. but the torque number at least looks closer to what I image it would be.

      That is an excellent question. The answer is yes but to the consternation of hackers everywhere who have been banging their heads on the table in frustration trying to automate drag racing, Tesla hard-coded so many firewalls into their cars specifically to prevent automated systems from ever undertaking hard acceleration. In order to get anything but sedate acceleration the go pedal must be physically pressed. The best the hackers have come up with is a robot to sit in the drivers chair and push the pedal.

    This was an awesome vid TFL! I am surprised that the Merc wasn’t faster. Must be heavy!
    I remember seeing a lifted duramax crew cab 4x4 on 33 or 34” tires, tuned of course, running 13.3 to 13.5 at our local track in Edmonton (1/2 mile above sea level). On about the 4th run, his front tie rod bent in from the boosted 4x4 launching and with his driver front tire angled in like 30 deg he still pushed it down the track and ran a 15.something at 96 MPH. I was blown away!!

      These guys did a horrible test with it, the GLS63 does the 1/4 in 12 or 12.1 seconds, and 0-60 in 3.6-3.8 seconds. Either these guys are just hit gunning it or there’s a issue with the car.

    See this is why i called you all noobs at the strip on the Hellcat video. Experienced racers like Demonology, RacerX, BMason, Dragtimes and such get .04 reaction times or lower and they don't spin down the track even with modded Demons, Hellcats, 720S and more. You are not as bad as someone who never races but you are not pros either. Not Hating just trying to give perspective to those who don't understand.

    Question. How much coal was burned to power the Tesla? I hate it when people say electric cars are environmentally friendly. When you look at power generation and all the rare earth elements for the batteries that becomes a big question on the environmentally friendly claim.

    • @TFLcar

      It’s a fact. EVs are much more environmentally friendly but some people keep bringing up this tired old ‘burning coal” argument. Just accept it. They are also much faster in a straight line🙃

      Id def take burning some carbon over taking lithium from like 5 places in the whole world it’s not like it’s a huge resource they have to be on salt flats and not to mention the contaminated ground and water after getting that juice for the battery’s. Yeah it’s cleaner in the end but at least millions of animals and fish aren’t found dead by pipelines yet millions are found dead by lithium mines...

      The Fast Lane Car, no question they are fast. And they are very useful in some applications. The Dept of Energy did a report in 2013ish on the total energy consumption on the production of Electric cars vs ICE cars. In manufacturing the energy cost was 10x greater for Electric. During its life it uses about a third of the energy in use compared to ICE. So in the end the Electric used twice the energy compared to ICE when everything is considered. The other factor to consider is where does this electricity come from. Only about about 5% comes from green sources. 25% is hydro-electric. The rest is coal or natural gas power plants.

    • @Spanked78
      @Spanked78 3 роки тому +1

      It depends on where you live, too. In Colorado, we primarily use coal for power, so a Tesla here is going to have a greater environmental impact than charging it in say Washington State, where more than half of that state's power is hydroelectric.
