    I'm from Columbus, OH and accepted a job offer at PwC Houston office. Any advice on how to make partner, especially since you did it in a great time frame.

    Hi Doug, I've been wondering about how to develop internal networks. Cultivating them and leveraging them. It'd be great to see a video on if you ever did a rotation in a national group or how you go about leveraging a network for that.

      Thanks for the comment Ryan. Have you seen Professional Relationship v01? Let me know what else you think I could cover on the topic - I'm happy to revisit and expand.

      Doug McHoney I just watched v01. It touched on many of the things I was hoping to hear. Perhaps a video on defining moments in your career. For instance, was there a difficult situation or request to relocate? If so, how did you approach those moments and how they affected your career.

      Two more for you: career paths v40 and mistakes happen v22. Keep 'em coming - you're going to end up bing watching the first season. I'm still open for topic suggestions..

    Hi, I subscribed to your channel couple of months back, I'm from the UK! I got into the PwC school leaver programme for Audit/Assurance. Do you have any tips on how to perform well? What to avoid doing? I'm really nervous but excited. I come from a very deprived background so working for a company like PwC is just.. well let's just say I'm still waiting to take up from this dream

    Hi Doug, im a current undergrad Accounting major in Florida. My plan is to get my MAcc, CPA then go to law school and get my JD and LLM in tax or something similar. Do you think this is a good idea for a successful Big 4 career or too much schooling for the money? Also do you know of any internship opportunities that could help me build my resume and experience?

      Gabriel U great questions. I have a vlog about this called “credentials”. And I’ll make sure to cover it in Season 4. Stay tuned!

    Hi Doug, I recently subscribed to your channel after watching this video. I will be starting full-time with PwC in the fall this year. It is great to know that the partners and sponsors can mutually agree on the opinion that what makes their careers more pleasurable is the people aspect. Hopefully, down the line, I, too, will have similar testimonies and experiences that you have had over your time with the firm.

    Hey Doug, I've always aimed to work at a big 4, next year I will be starting as a graduate at a very large mid-tier public accounting firm here in melbourne, australia (in fact I think it is the 5th largest so just outside of the big 4), do you think after gaining some experience within this firm, I will be able to make the transition into a big 4 firm, or is it hard for mid-tier employees to move up (this is within the assurance division). cheers.

    Do you get flak for your hair or your beard?

    Seems like it would be a conflict of interest to recruit and hire another from a competing Big 4 firm. Don't you all sign non-compete agreements? Given this unethical buddy system of hiring, its no wonder others can't get into Big 4 firms and succeed.....

    • @DougMcHoney
      @DougMcHoney  6 років тому +7

      People can change firms whenever they want. Even partners. A noncompete clause is intended to prevent people from taking clients when they change firms. Recruiting people from competing firms is neither a conflict of interest nor unethical. We consider all qualified applicants at our PwC Careers website.

    • @bonnicrisfulli1872
      @bonnicrisfulli1872 6 років тому +1

      Sure, as long as the applicant is under 35, comes from wealthy pedigree, comes from another Big 4 firm or from a partnering university MBA program and is a crony of the Partners. All the rest face KEEP OUT signs at the Big 4.Sorry, such an exclusive buddy system of recruitment and hiring without regard to merit or qualifications is favoritism and unethical behavior. And wooing candidates from competing firms knowing that many worked with the same clients that PwC is courting is a conflict of interest.Will ethics and fair/equitable recruitment and hiring ever change for the better at the Big 4 firms? One would think that Partners making millions in salary and bonuses at these Big 4 firms would exhibit more professional, ethical and socially responsible behavior.Read the book "Pedigree" by Lauren Rivera. She tells the REAL story about how recruitment and hiring is conducted by large consulting/accounting firms, and it has nothing to do with experience or smarts.Time to knock off the exclusive cottage industry at the Big 4 firms guys!

    • @DougMcHoney
      @DougMcHoney  6 років тому +3

      Bonni Crisfulli You need to reread Ms. Rivera’s book. It has nothing to do with public accounting. I went to public schools my entire life. If you want to call the University of Missouri an elite school, I’ll take it.

    • @bonnicrisfulli1872
      @bonnicrisfulli1872 6 років тому

      Well let's see.... A "JD" from Columbia School of Law (another profession Lauren Rivera researched in the book) at the University of Missouri doesn't sound to me like a bottom of the barrel credential. How many paralegals did the Big 4 hire this year? Didn't think so.You Big 4 Partners can "pontificate" all you want about celebrating each other's success due to the elitist buddy system, but history has shown that these circles continue to be exclusive cliques of those who came from wealthy pedigree who make exorbitant amounts of money and who recruit and hire ONLY other privileged pedigreed people just like them. So much for "diversity and inclusion" at the Big 4.Again, needs much work guys!

    • @DougMcHoney
      @DougMcHoney  6 років тому +2

      Columbia School of Law and the University of Missouri Columbia School of Law are two entirely different schools. One is an Ivy League school on the Upper East Side. The other is in Columbia, Missouri. I promise we’re not the elitists you’re making us out to be. Watch some of my vlogs and learn more about what I do and who we are.
