The thing about colleges is that if you're going to be spending money to go there, you want something that employers won't strike against you. For profit schools may not jive with certain companies and others won't care. Like if you went to an ivy league school people care, if you went to public school people are like, oh sure that's fine. If you went to ITT tech, some employers will legit question your intelligence. Your college does matter to some extent.

    I’m at APU and not having a bad time. The material is quality and the instructors grade fairly so you do have to actually try but that’s a good thing. Is it a top school? Obviously not.
    All colleges make false promises honestly. A college degree checks a box but doesn’t guarantee a successful career. That being said I haven’t found them to be viewed negatively or any more negatively than other online schools.
    Higher education as a whole in this country has its flaws. It’s not accessible for the most part and we seem to value education only when it’s specific degrees or schools because being educated in this country is more about elitism than it is about education lol.
    Overall I still prefer WGU to most other options as a non traditional student. APU is by far not the best school in the country but it isn’t the worst. That would be Ashworth College 😂

    APU/AMU is the college hacked through the USAF TA, as I completed an interdisciplinary AA and that also helped completing my Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) AAS in Criminal Justice. Now I'm just 13 classes away from my BS in criminal justice at Liberty, as the AMU courses transferred with no issue. So In my situation AMU would not be one to avoid and I honestly applaud, the ease of transfer credits to LU was so simplistic. All it cost was $10 for the official transcripts to be be sent to Liberty University. I'm still proud of my two associates degrees and continuing my higher education which will help my career in the Air Force and more importantly life after the military.

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  Рік тому +2

      @@jyoz08 This whole saga is VERY interesting, because 2% of students DID finish in the time/cost projections the school provided, so it isn't that it was impossible... just improbable. Which begs the question: how much responsibility do you put on the school for student progression?

    • @jyoz08
      @jyoz08 Рік тому +1

      @@CollegeHacked Very true. I think what makes this even more complicated is that a lot of these doctoral students were given additional "continuation courses" to complete that were not originally on their course plan. So, it's hard to tell if they were really needed by these students to complete their dissertation or if they were added just to prolong their time with the school.
      I would imagine that a school would re-evaluate the curriculum if only 2% are graduating on time; and modify it with the appropriate coursework so that a more reasonable expectation is set early on.

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  Рік тому +1

      @@jyoz08Well said. It sort of sounded to us like maybe the core issue was a staffing problem, so the continuation courses became the schools way of creating a holding pattern for students until they could get to the faculty they needed. DEF don’t recommend any for profit schools for UNDERGRAD!!! It simply isn’t worth it. As an undergrad you will need more instructional support and guidance as you map out your career. Always go to a more established program for undergrad because it’s a foundational degree. Master’s is more specialized, so you COULD do a for profit school for that, but there are also better options depending on your lifestyle. In general, only use for profit schools if you are already a professional with a family and demanding job, etc., and for the purposes of upskilling or solidifying your expertise functionally. If you have the flexibility to be on campus and live the student life, then definitely shoot for the moon with non-profit, well-established programs.

    I think APUS has such a low grad rate because of their American Military University side. In the Air Force many students sign up for AMU to get enough credits for their CCAF and then don't really care about going further. Also, their is incentive in the military to just take a class for your performance report. This leads to people taking one class a year just check a box for their performance report.

I know many of my colleagues who have degrees from AMU. After AMU evaluated all of my credits from the seven other colleges that I had attended, they only wanted to give me 81 transfer credits. When they found out I was actively enrolled in a local community college to take one of the prerequisites that I needed, my AMU counselor got very upset with me. This was a red flag! CTU just had a “Success Coach” yell at me that she didn’t work for me. 22k-26k and I should shut my mouth and let the instructor wreck my grade with his basic instruction. Was taught Masters APA format just to be told CTU only accepts the prior version from the Bachelor program. I paid to attend 2 classes that pushed Masters APA only for the CJ instructors to not accept it. Masters program and being taught to go backwards.

    In 2016 - I was freshly divorced, on my own, with two kids to raise. I was not making enough money to get by. So, I went online and CTU came up. Admissions hit me up and really got me going, and told me that I would be making 140k-160k upon graduation. I worked hard for a degree that, in the end, wasn't worth much. I ended up working a job making about 50k for 3 years.
    It isn't that I don't want to pay back the loans. I put in a borrower's defense to repayment. It's been a year, I'm still waiting. Should be another 2 years until it happens, if it ever even does. In the meantime, I'm just in limbo. My income went way up last year but that was because of merit, and it isn't in the 140k to 160k bracket I was assured of.
    This whole thing is garbage. All of it. The economy really is just a bunch of people hoodwinking everyone else. It's annoying when you just want to do a good job and have no ill intentions.

    First and foremost, I just want to thank you for spreading awareness and providing insight on educational institutions. Secondly, I have a couple of questions- Can you explain the difference between 120/180 credit systems that universities use and if it is beneficial in any way to go to a university that operates in a “180” credit system. Also, would you recommend a BS in Health science or are they too broad of a major? Thank you 🙏🏽

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  Рік тому +3

      You’re welcome! 😊 Schools opt for the 180 credit model for usually one of two reasons. Either the “per credit” cost is high and they want to disguise that, or they are gamifying the students progression. For example, Purdue Global makes their 3 credit classes 5 credits and each credit is like a mini accomplishment as you move through the material (there is psychology to support this incentivizing people to continue). So it’s not always a bad thing, but you do want to suss out the intention. Health sciences can be a great major, depending on what you’re trying to do :) Thankfully the person makes the major, not the other way around!

    I am looking at going for my Masters for Information Systems. My work has programs with both University of Phoenix and University of Arizona Global Campus for fully covering cost. The degree programs appear to be similar in content. Which would be the better school to pick in your opinion?

      1 year LPN program or a Google Professional certificate instead of a degree. Either way you will start at $50,000+. A Bachelor's degree in psychology pays nothing and has zero demand. If you are interested in psychology plan on getting a doctorate.

    I'd have to disagree; every school is for profit, but unless you've been to these schools, this information is very one-sided. Strayer is a good college, and I've had the best experience there. It's not the institution's fault that people don't understand that universities are always more per class or that people want 5- and 6-dollar financial aid refunds. DeVry is shady and Colorado Technical, but Capella is good and has a good online platform, and the University of Phoenix has had their troubles in the past, but I didn't have a negative experience with them either. Many people drop courses and don't know that when they do that, they owe the schools. Also, I've been to a few of these schools. Any college's graduation rate isn't a reflection of the school but the people who quit while attending because they can't handle the work. Nothing is easy about any college; you have to do the work. Degrees aren't given away; it takes a hell of a lot to get to the finish line. There are many shady college's but Strayer isn't ond of them and Capella was damn good they could work on their communication more though.

      Strayer offers many what they call Sophia Courses and you don't pay anything for them saving you thousands of dollars on financial aid loans.

    I don’t have a prob with for profit schools
    let’s face it- the so called non profits or state schools are raking in the tax payer dollars and admin is getting fat while producing less and less actual job ready people who can realistically hit the ground running in their career of choice. They aren’t teaching job training or job training skills employers need and want.
    Plus - it’s ridiculous to charge by the credit hour. It’s time this model went away.
    And it’s time to do away with all of these bill padding classes that aren’t relevant to the degree and are only there to make these university boards money & admin money 🤷🏻‍♀️ while being touted as “you want to be a well rounded student?!”. No, I want relevant career development not art history or biological science when I’m not going into anything that will ever remotely need that kind of knowledge 🤦🏻‍♀️.

    UOPX did some shady stuff, but they cleaned up their act. My undergrad degree cost me 53k, which is not overpriced. I saw some guy in the comments say a "friend" spent 80k on an undergrad in the comments, and that's probably due to something his friend did and not the school. I love the videos, but as with all UA-camrs, our guy here probably has an agenda. I guess my post means I have an agenda also, lol.
