I've been to Flores many times. My Dad was born there. My Mom was born in Sao Jorge but grew up in Flores. My Grandma, Aunts, Uncles and cousins all still live there. It is my favorite place in the world and I can't wait to go back this summer.
Denise, I lived on Terceira for two years. The only other island I was on was San Miguel. I wish I had visited the others. It really is the most beautiful place in the world.

Just left Sao Miguel - the flights (off season) are quite affordable 200€ from Western/Central Europe 20€/day for a rental Car 25€+ /day for Accomodation (AirBNB) and lokal food and drink can be very cheap 0,8€ / cup of coffee or for a cheese toast :) Go there - it's great!

at the Moment the € is historically cheap for you: 1€ ~ 1,05 USD - so all € prices plus 5% are USD. At the summer time many American Emmigrants who left the Azores years ago return for vacation.
I'm based in UK. Traveled for my birthday in January. London to Porto £20 one way. Porto to Terceira (another of the Azores islands) €15 one way. That's about USD50 more or less. OK I start out in Europe and you are in the States but basically Ryanair, a lowcost operator has started flying there from both UK and mainland Portugal. As a result SATA (Azores airlines) have had to sharpen up their game. There are flights from Boston and Toronto to the Azores direct, but I suspect if you gpot the cheapest possible flight to mainland Europe you could get there more cheaply than flying direct. The bonus is a visit to some other part of Europe en route. Good luck

I've been 8 of the 9 islands. Santa Maria is the only one I haven't been too but Flores is hands down the most beautiful. Graciosa is also very beautiful.

I live in Fresno California and what brought me here are names of two individuals who have passed away in the late 1800's and are buried here, who have come from this island. Interesting.

My Great Great Grandfather came from this island. He left his home at age 14 to set sail for New Zealand never to return. Apparently this island is so small and the population is so small that I would technically be related to every one still on it.

Thomas Ongerth, the weather will still be bad most probably. Azores is considered a "green destination" as well as Ireland, etc, for a reason. You can't have green without rain.
