My wife and I just dug into this one. Longtime AE fan but never played Legacy. So glad we took the dive on this one!
Aeons end is my favorite as well, this was an easy back. Thanks for all the coverage Rahdo
I'm sold! But this time, again, it's really my last Aeon's End!
It may actually be the last Aeons End. The KS page makes it sound like this will be their last expansion
@@yipyipyipi well the FAQ reads that they arent done yet :D
Thanks for the review, I think it was well done.
As far as stickers are concerned: If you have a working scanner and printer it won't be a problem. :-) My friends and I played 3rd wave Legacy a bunch of times, creating more than a dozen heroes, but the original material is still intact. Also after the first campaign I changed the heroes' images on both the player mats and their custom gems or spells, so now I have e.g. Darkwing Duck, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Korra, Yoruichi from Bleach, and the Queen of Hatred from Lobotomy Corporation opening breaches and raining down death and destruction on the nameless. :-)
Can you re-use the mages in the base game?
YUP :)
I want to back this so much, but the shipping prices are too high. I think i save 10 euros total over buying this on retail which defeats the whole purpose of kickstarter for me.
Gameplay wise, the way you mark cards over the campaign seems awesome and the boss looked amazing, cant way to try it.
Thanks Rhado for the great video. I'm one of those players that doesn't care about the story or the expedition mini-campaigns they introduced with the last two expansions. With New Age and Outcasts I took everything out of the envelopes and just merged it into my storage solution, and then read through the story books to see what happened. For me this game is just a fun boss battle. I like to get some mages, pick a nemesis and get to it. With all that being said, I did play the legacy campaign and I agree that's the best place to start for new players. I will likely play this campaign as well but it's good to know I can just merge most of it right off the bat and be fine. I appreciate your videos and channel.
well i'm glad to hear that, because i keep saying "you can just open all the envelopes and go" but i've never tried it myself, so i was assuming a bit. great to hear the confirmation! :)
@@rahdo with legacy there were some cards that didn’t port over after the campaign was over, but they included a how-to guide post campaign. With New Age and Outcasts it was 100% compatible so very easy to merge into the rest.
is this a stand alone box or an expansion? and is it better to start with the core box or is this box a good way to start with this game?
stand alone. if you care about story, i'd start with aeon's end legacy, but if you don't worry about story out of order (or if you're only ever going to buy 1 aeon's end), it would be this one
I have everything AE to date and played through everything story-related, and my friends and I love it. That being said, there is soooo much content for it now (as you've said), to the point where I kind of don't really want more market cards. Always awesome to have more mages and bosses, though!
Also, really excited to hear that the story has such detail and feels like Endgame. Can't wait to get this!
I read that as “I hate everything AE” and I was about to be quite offended. 😂 such a good game!!
Okay, ranking time! Where do you rank these co-op deck builders:
Aeon's End
Legendary
Legendary Encounters Alien/Predator
Shadowrun Crossfire
Dragonfire
Hero Realms
Heroes of Tenefyr
Harry Potter
Helionox
Resident Evil
(add your own if I didn't list it here but it has to be a co-op game where the primary mechanism is deck building)
of the ones you listed,
?. resident evil (not played)
8. hero realms
7. harry potter
6. legendary (only played original)
5. helionox
4. tenefyr
3. dragonfire
2. aeon's end
1. shadowrun
also you might want to check ua-cam.com/video/hw_NLxdbqyc/v-deo.html for some other ideas :)
Also check out Shards of Infinity with the cooperative expansion. I really enjoy Shards as a competitive game and the cooperative version is reminiscent of Aeon's End.
@@saintsalieri
Yeah I thought about putting Shards up there, but I just found the co-op mode to be a bit underwhelming. Hopefully they can expand on it and make it better.
@@rahdo
Thanks Rhado. I was wondering how you would rank Aeon's End vs Shadowrun. I really gotta get around to playing Shadowrun. I totally forgot about Attack on TItan. That one was really good!
@@SeanUCF i put shadowrun near the top of everything (you can see how i rank everything at ranked.rahdo.com) :)
This has made my day!! Went to pledge but it’s not up yet so I’ll check again later. It looks great - I have all AE content too and I can’t wait to play all the new bosses and mages and see the storyline. Thanks Rahdo.
It's up now!
Brilliant! Thanks for letting me know👍
I recently was introduced to Aeon's End and played New Age and got hooked and now sad that I'm too late for the pledge because I would of definitely got the added wave 1 pledge tier to get the 2nd edition of the original game.
Late Pledge is open right now ;)
I can't find the game on BGG - any idea what's up with that?
Very weird error-it shows up in results for "aeon" but not "aeon's"
yeah, some bug, i had a hard time finding the entry myself. the link is in the shownotes for this video if you need it
That is weird. Thank you!
Someone on BGG spotted that the title was entered with a smart quote, unlike the rest of the series
Very exiciting to see so much content in one box! Re. difficulty, I find Aeon's End to be more difficult with 3 or 4 players.
Then again, the group I play with aren't exaclty deck building veterans. :)
The mention of all the new mages and Nemesis', I'm intrigued. I'm not into legacy games but was wondering if you have to play the first one to enjoy this one as well?
You don't. It gives a bit of a cliffs notes of the original story so that you won't be too confused about what's going on in this one (I was a play tester btw). It would be more enriching to have played the previous Legacy game, or New Age or Outcasts in the same way that watching Infinity War and Endgame would be more enriching if you had seen all those movies beforehand, but you'll still be able to be engaged in the tale and if nothing else have a metric ton of content.
if you want to see that intro, it's in the rulebook which you can check out here: www.dropbox.com/s/7cw82mz1ggat6ff/AE6%20rulebook%2002%2023%202021%20B.pdf?dl=0
I thought I heard this was the last AE before they switch up the theme and design.
ah well maybe that answers the questions "where can they go from here?" :)
Yeah, they said they are gonna change up a lot of stuff like the Market, Nemesis decks and such to make it way more streamlined because it's getting unwieldy
@@jayvir6
I hope they bring all the Aeon's End content to the digital version before they go rebooting physical version. Digital versions of games have a nice way of streamlining things if they start to get out of hand in the physical space. I would argue that Aeon's End is very streamlined compared to most other co-op games though.
Not really, they said they aren't making a big box because they still have more plans for the IP
So if I could only buy 3 waves and I own the base game, what games are part 1, 2, and 3 of the story?
part 1 is legacy, part 2 is New Age and part 3 is Outcast
Hi Rahdo,
Thanks for the final thoughts video - I haven’t watched the run through yet, but I will!
I have had two big issues with aeons end in the past and wonder if they have been refined yet (or maybe see what the designers do with their next deck builder instead):
1) boss deck set up - having to shuffle and randomly draw the generic boss cards to then mix in with phase 1, 2 and 3 specific boss cards feels like such a waste of time, and reduces theme. For the sake of printing and designing several more cards for each boss - which would add theme - you could just shuffle each boss phase, stack them up and go. I get this may seem minor but after multiple plays, the more generic cards felt bland and I’d seen them so many times + the added set up time, it just seemed like a bad design to me.
2) starting cards being generic and low power, having to thin your hand. I get this is a classic mechanic of deck builders, it just isn’t a good one imo. I’m thinking of spirit island here - when you start you have themed powerful cards in hand, then you build a deck of even more powerful themed cards. It looks like aeons end has kept the standard deck building starter set up (except for the few themed mage specific cards everyone gets - which I think is the step in the right direction and allows for more interesting, differentiated hero power and deck designs), but I was wondering if the starting hands get improved significantly over the campaign to the point where your starting hand is quality cards from the start? - but the market still has cards you want to buy - likely meaning later bosses need to be boosted in strength to balance the starting strength of mages.
I saw your deck builders ranking in one of the other comments - I may check out shadowrun crossfire instead.
Or maybe marvel champions is just the better fit for me - draw great cards and face good choices from the start of the game and every turn after - without the slow burn start up of deck builders.
There are so many expansions.. Which one would you recommend? I have only the base game at the moment
the big boxes expansions have better values. So I would recommend to go in release order and take war eternal! :)
The nameless and the outter dark are small boxes that complinent the original aeons end great, based on the nemesis difficulty plus market cards.
If you want the most creative nemesis and cards, or even different ways to play the game you should go with the New age or Outcasts big boxes
after outcast, i said to myself, ok, i've got enough ! waaaaay enough...
But of course... i'm gonna take this one... of course i will !
But to be honest, i hope and wish, that this box is the really ending of Aeon's end.
And that after that, they just go on some other projects, even re-using their mechanics, on some others universe.
Coz i feel like it's enough. And there's no need to push the "license" further than this...
And somtimes, like tv show, you have to know when to stop with a good ending... Instead of seeking for the money plan...
Time will tell..
My 2 cents ;)
Cheers
they should use Foreteller App for the narration part, i love the game but reading out loud every time something evolve, or when i finish each chapter is kind of boring xD
We need MORE Rhado in the Rhado channel and not other guy.
not having him doesn't mean i do more. it simply means there's less videos for you to watch overall
What kind of unplayable card? The overheat ones..?
sorry i don't understand the question?
Sold my Brother. Thank you
