      Same. I loved my mother inlaw. Sadly I got divorced due to him being an alcoholic. She treated me like her daughter. She only had boys. She told me she won gold when my now ex married me then her oldest married a nice woman then her youngest got remarried. I was first then one right after the other the others got remarried. I love my sister inlaws. In fact one year at my husband's summer get together that his company held we can invite 10 people. I invited his parents, my stepmother just to swim and eat, his brothers and family and his oldest daughter and granddaughter. I got to spend time getting to know his brothers and nieces and nephews. I did not care that they were not blood related to my brother inlaw. I vowed to never be like my biological mother nor stepmother.

      Happens more than you might think. Even nearly 40 years ago, my mil was kind of like that, though she had more than "10 Things I Hate About You - 1999". She and her husband actually disowned their one son when he married me. Later, after finding out that I made three times the money he did, she 'apologized' with "Well, I guess I have to love you because Jehovah says I do." LOL
      Hated breaking it to her, but that is NOT how His love works.

      @dmf1301 Рік тому +7

      I’m sure some of them suffered greatly under horrible MILs!
      Some people have this… attitude, I guess you’d call it… that other people deserve to suffer because they did. So they are horrible to their own DIL because they believe she deserves to suffer, too.
      Kind of like that thing that parents do when their own kid has a baby - they laugh at them, make jokes about getting their own back for putting them through ‘hell’ way back when and buy the grandchildren noisy toys to drive the parents nuts!
      That’s all done in lighthearted fun, of course, but the basic concept is the same - ‘I suffered in the past, so you deserve to suffer now in order to make it even.’
      Some people do have the ability to break the cycle, though. They go out of their way to ensure they do better by the next generation precisely because they DON’T want them to suffer as well. 😞

    Lindsey is a piece of work. She expects Caitlin to drive several miles to her home and prepare the Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family.
    What she should have done is have each family bring a dish. Lindsey could also prepare some of the food in advance and just warm it up at the dinner.
    You weigh the fact that it takes a lot of time to prepare a huge dinner. And, most homes don't have a double oven. I had one and I loved it. For big dinners, I could cook the meats and the vegetables and dessert in the other one.
    Asking the relatives to bring a dish is not too outrageous a task. Lindsey could provide the meats and it would make it easier on her.

    The only reason I never had my mother and the man she married bring food on holidays I hosted was because she can't cook to save her life. I wouldn't offer her food to a starving person. But at the end of the week, Thanksgiving and Christmas, my friends and I would have left over parties. Everyone brought whatever food was left from the dinner and we laid it out buffet style. It was a blast. That way no one has to cook extra and we can celebrate with our friends without impeding on holiday family time.

Sorry but not sorry I found a better one and I would go to my mother inlaws church on occasion when not attending mine. I am glad she moved away so I don't have to deal with her. I also would have a discussion that he needs to bring it to the congregation that once you walk an isle, ask for forgiveness and get Baptism that you are going to go to heaven and that people who try to make you doubt or harass you are going to deal with God's wrath on them. My mother *wouldn't dare* to speak to my wife like this. Let me tell you why...
    When my mother had rushed my grandmother to the hospital for what was the beginning of her end, she called me from the hospital to tell me (i wasn't 18 yet), then stayed by Grandma's side until she was taken up to a room. One of my mother's sisters (my aunts) called me asking where Grandma was, and i explained. Then both of my aunts said some pretty nasty things to my mother. The result? I haven't spoken to either of them since the funeral. It's been more than 20 years, and i don't miss them.

    • @queerdeificeeli985

      Why did your aunts say nasty things to your mother? Did they not like the fact she was staying with their mother whilst she was in hospital?

    • @kimraudenbush615
      @kimraudenbush615 Рік тому +1

      @@queerdeificeeli985 their opinion was my mother should have called my aunts and my uncle from the hospital. What they failed to consider was that if Grandma was taken up to a room while my mom was outside making phone calls, Grandma would have felt abandoned. Plus, it would have taken more time to find out what room she was taken to...
      Aunt Jean is the one who called me. She then called Aunt Elaine. It was Aunt Elaine that called my mother. She was really venomous that day, which deeply wounded my mother, since Elaine had always been the nice one to her.
      My mother actually called me and ripped into me after she was blindsided. When she came home, she was in tears, hugged me, apologized for blaming me, and explained what had happened.
      My aunts took information i provided in good faith, and attacked my mother. In my book, that's a form of betrayal.
      There is a lot of manipulation by Aunt Jean (the one who called me) that i didn't catch on to until after my mother explained it to me. Jean was always a b_tch, but i was too young and naive to catch on. My mother didn't reveal these things until after i made the decision to cut all ties.
      By the way, my uncle agreed with my mother, and told her so. Since he wasn't an a__hole to my mother, I do see him occasionally.

      @@kimraudenbush615 Ah, ok ty for explaining, it just didn't make sense to me why they'd be mad at their sister for taking care of their mother unless they were b_tches

    • @jalyc8515
      @jalyc8515 Рік тому

      @@queerdeificeeli985 From the other side, consider that it might not have been for taking care of her. It was because she was also THEIR mother!! It is NOT hard to ask a nurse "What room is my mom in now?" !! Then "524B", and BOOM, took 5 seconds.
      I would have been furious too if I was not told about my own mother. What if Grandma had died while his mom was chitchatting on the phone with Kim? Kim and his mother might have deprived the sisters from seeing and saying goodbye to THEIR MOTHER.
      'Their opinion that my mother should have called my aunts and my uncle from the hospital' is correct and normal. ONE phone call to another DAUGHTER could have allowed that one to call everyone else.
      "One of my mother's sisters (my aunts) called me asking where Grandma was". WHY was Kim not calling others? WHY did a single one of them have to call and ask?? WHY did NO ONE, including Kim, consider the rest of the family???
      I went through something similar as a newlywed at 17. I called, as usual, to chat with my 70 y/o father in law one weekend. This was long before cell phones, so I called to make sure he was available to talk and after a few minutes chatting would give the phone to my husband.
      His new, jealous, and hateful wife said "Well, he's still in the hospital, but out of ICU at least."
      I laid into her like crazy. My husband came running to see what all the yelling and screaming was about. We immediately started the four hour drive to his hospital!
      Pops sadly asked the first thing why we had not called or come to see him earlier. When we told him NO ONE told us, he too was absolutely FURIOUS with his wife. Her reply? "IF they really cared about you, they would have called the day you had your heart attack."
      We always called every Saturday, so how were we to know there was a problem on Tuesday? Husband's aunt and uncle lived there too and were led to believe that new wifey HAD called and we didn't care. New wifey was disliked and basically shunned from then on until their divorce a few years later.
      ALWAYS look for two sides to anything and you will find 1 + 1 = 3, with 3 being the truth.
