  • Dig the teen scene at the opening of the new happening spot, The Hullabaloo Club! WTF alert: Is there a scene showing a guy sitting in the front seat of a hearse? Or else, that's a creepy station wagon!

    I'll never forget when The Doors and The Orphans played together at The Hullabaloo in 1966 and blew the roof off the place.

      Laura Templin Laura, I worked with one of the Yellow Payges in Hollywood at Max Factor in '74. He worked in "Building and Office Services" and I was a secretary there. I literally can't remember his name. He had dark curly hair, and drove the company van. Nice guy.

    After hours in Feb 1967‼️The Doors played among others at the 2nd Meeting of the Tribes@ Griffith park(5.5K in attendance), then at Gazzarri's in the evening and with Canned Heat, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Coloring Book Blues band at Hullabaloo 2AM -4AM, we then drove to Haight Asbury/ Golden Gate Park in San Francisco! Yeah, my memories !

    We used to cut school and hitchhike there. I used to look around and wonder when truant officers were going to sweep through. Never happened. There was no way of knowing who was appearing, you just went there.
    We saw Neil Diamond when he was sort of Elvis-y, with a big ol' J200 guitar, the Yellow Payges were tight, and I think we saw the Seeds there. The Seeds spent a lot of time on their hair. Some couldn't decide if they were greasers or hippies, so they did both. Long hair with a pompadour. Like the bad guy from The Crow.
    Good times. I didn't see Emmit Rhodes as the Palace Guard passed by in the video. RIP, one man Beatles.

    You betcha.....all my weekends in 65 and 66 were spent here. Too good to really soak in even now. Saw the Byrds open up here. And the Turtles tons of times. Dance and danced. Early teen dj, I was in the midst of the best music ever!

    I wasn't alive in this time, but I get depressed. I feel I missed a glorious time and am stuck in these shitty current days. This video looks like such a wonderful time in history and now our society sucks.

      While I'm grateful for being part of this time, and this club, and the Palace Guard, I envy my parents era of Big Band music and all those wonderful movie musicals!

    Would drive to Sunset from El Monte every weekend. This was the hangout for those too young to get into the Trip. My favorite shows were Buffalo Springfield and the rock opera Tommy. Kids today will never know what they missed.

      @Dusty Katz Did the Hullabaloo club compete with the Whiskey A Go Go at the time? Or, were you too young to get into the WAGG also? 😊

    I played at the Hullabaloo Club. Big battle of the bands late '66. 2 guitars stolen- a Tele and another Xlnt Rickenbacker guitar. I suspect it was the equipment crew. I was on drums so nothing ripped off. But I could score some purple Owsley there. Wow was that stuff potent.

    Actually, there were Hullabaloo Clubs in several cities. They were alcohol free clubs for teens, that had live bands play while the kids danced. The one where I booked in bands in 1968, was in Decatur, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. The Decatur club was smaller than the L.A. club, as it was in a strip center. It is also the first location where I witnessed 6 cops beat up a 15 year old boy. That forever changed my perception of cops.

    • @SpeegBJ
      @SpeegBJ 3 роки тому +1

      There might have been other Hullabaloo Clubs, but this club was the original after Dave Hull, 1965. Having been a guest there often, it was definitely the only one like it.

    Not this one maybe, but the same model was used as for a hearse. I have relatives who have pictures of them as kids setting them up as club houses. The hearses I mean... because they were still four doors. This one is probably a limo made from the same wagon model that was also used as a hearse. They still had the windowed divider to separate the driver and were easy for the manufacturer to just change out the back interior design.
    Obviously this is no ordinary station wagon for sure!

  • @bondhughbond
    @bondhughbond 13 років тому +2

    That's not a hearse. It's a regular Chrysler station wagon that happens to be black or dark enough to appear black on film.

  • @jkfan2005
    @jkfan2005 13 років тому +1

    Pop stars were not yet dropping dead often enough to justify a hearse at that time. But "The Munsters" and "The Addams Family" were on then.... (nah, it looks like it's just a black station wagon.)

    I think it would be a good time for the young to get a scene like this going again. A revival of a sort where the kids actually play a instrument. A Simple twang of the guitar and a whole scene going on.
