Celebrate History Week 2021 with North Sydney Council Historian Dr Ian Hoskins in this online talk.
North Sydney is often left out of the story of Sydney, that sprawling city on the South side of the Harbour. However it is part of that metropolis and the story of the other shore is both linked to the south side and in many ways unique.
Artworks, maps and photographs will be used to explore the history of the built environment of North Sydney from the shelters constructed by Aboriginal people to the Warringah Expressway which divided the area and the high-rise that turned North Sydney into the smaller twin of the CBD on the south side. Along the way, changes to the foreshore and the rise of heritage awareness are also examined.
The recording starts 4 minutes into the presentation.

Just found your link! - totally fascinating. As a longterm resident of Middle Cove one is reminded of the first nation peoples presence in the area by the prolific amount of shell middens.
    Well done with your production.

A very thoughtful examination of the Nth Sydney area. A shame that we didn't have a Jack Mundy to halt some of the very questionable that development has taken place.
