    I retired 5 years ago but my former employer called me back to do consulting design. 5 years is enough time to get rusty so this video along with others like it have helped me "get back in the saddle". Thank you, I appreciate your work.

    Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. We'll have to suggest it to Solid Works :)
    You've still saved me loads of time and tedious back and forth typing. Thanks Again.

    Great work :)
    I am 1/2 year newbe in SW, using SW 2019 but this help still works.
    First founded by me help about properties which works!!!!
    But i have more sofisticated problem.
    I have my own part property "PartsPerDevice" and I would like to fill it automagically from BOM table of the assembly. Currently I am preparing BOM and then I go to the each part and fill it manually.
    It works, but...

      @@mariuszdec3354 Hey Mariusz, SOLIDWORKS should be automatically generating that Bill of Materials for you, we recommend that you get in contact with your VAR and ask them. Hopefully your BOM will start working normally again!

      @@goengineer - thak you for attention.
      My question wasn't precise :(.
      I have an automatic BOM, this is simple - but I don't know how to get number of the parts back - automatically to the properties sheet of the part, to my field named PartsPerDevice.
      Currently during holidays my VAR rests....

    So do you have to go into file properties everytime and select from those drop downs? How do I get it to know if I select a material it should automatically fill the file property?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Agustin,
      No, you don't generally need to add properties like this in every file. Typically properties would be added to the template files themselves so each new file is created with a stock set of properties as these are just settings within the templates. This document goes over that how to do this with your templates (kb.goengineer.com/go/default.aspx?kbID=12870).
      Once you have created a property in your template that links to the material of the model then that property will always be able to be called out in the drawing's title block. If you add a permanent Custom Property link to the title block then whatever material that is applied in the model should populate the title block without having to do this each time.

    I am having issues inserting "DrawnDate". Under the part, I go into the "Summary Information" and under "Property Name" I select the "DrawnDate" then I select Text for "Type", but under "Value/ Text Expression" I do not see an option for selecting the current date. Any ideas?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Nate,
      Some properties of a file are intrinsic to the file and do not require a Custom Property be setup in this way. If you were to create a new annotation in a drawing then link a Custom Property in that annotation to the model in "Drawing View Specified" you would have options for these properties from your model file:
      SW-LastSavedDate
      SW-CreatedDate
      Depending on what you are attempting to convey you would pick either of these to be your Drawn on Date.

    I want to know how to set properties so that the part name showed up in drawing even if I change the part , part name should change accordingly. Help in this regard.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Ranjodh,
      To do this you would create a new blank drawing file, then run the process to link a property to a note (like this: ua-cam.com/video/3Uh6jPLOS9E/v-deo.htmlm25s ), then go to 'File', 'Save Sheet Format' to save the linked property into your Sheet Format (the file containing your Title Block). Then, each time you use that Sheet Format file it will link to whichever part you use in that particular drawing. It will change according to whichever part you placed a view for.

    how can you do this for a assembly drawing?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 років тому

      Hi Ferdaus,
      Linking custom properties in your drawing in the way described here should work fine for both part and assembly drawings. If you are not getting the results you want you may need to go into the sheet properties (right click on the sheet in the feature tree and go to 'Properties') then set the "Use custom property values from model shown in:" to a drawing view of the appropriate part or assembly.

    • @scientist100
      @scientist100 4 роки тому

      You can't since assemblies consist of multiple parts that may be different materials.

    How do i link drawing scale to model, so that scale on title block print itself.....
    And as i change drawing view scale, changing will be done in title block simultaneously.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Gulshan,
      Typically you would leave a view set to "Use sheet scale" to do this. You could then set the scale for the sheet within the sheet 'Properties' (right click on the sheet and go to 'Properties') and set the scale there. The titleblock on the sheet would then reference the Sheet Scale property allowing them to always match just by changing the scale value for the sheet.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Κωνσταντίνος,
      If you wish to have materials of specific bodies called out you would need to construct the model as a Weldment then insert a Cut List table into the drawing where one column in the Cut List is specified to call out the material of the bodies.

      Hi David,
      The file location for the text file that normally contains that list is likely not pointing to the correct folder anymore. You will want to go into ‘Tools’, ‘Options’, ‘System Options’, ‘File Locations’ and show folders for ‘Custom Property Files’. This location on your machine should have a customproperty.TXT file in it. If it does not then you may want to get this file from the corresponding folder on another SOLIDWORKS machine or do a search of your hard drive for this file and move it into this folder listed under 'File Locations'.

    How to Link material Thickness in sheet format ??, can any one help me with this...

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi Nithin,
      If you create a sheet metal model then you could then go into 'File', 'Properties' to the 'Custom' tab to create a property with the following selections
      Property Name: Thickness
      Type: Text
      Value/Text Expression: select from the drop down menu "Thickness"
      This would create the custom property that could then be linked in the title block of the sheet format.

    You skipped a VERY important step. If you are new and just setting up the templates for parts, assemblies and so on, there are no custom properties available.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  6 років тому

      Hi John,
      Yes, the video does not do all steps for a setup but is just a quick tip. The templates themselves can be edited to include properties so that each new file comes standard with those properties as well.
