One of my wonderful female friends asked me why I listen to a lot of sad songs. Sometimes, I don't even know they are, but she catches it. I tell her, it's because it makes me feel that I'm still human and it at least makes me feel something. Been single for a long time. Actually really my whole life. Had a few girls here and there but it never really worked out. I realize that although all these songs are great emotional songs, for me I feel like it has kept me stuck in a loop. Always feeling some type of way, whether it be gloomy, sad or reminiscing of past loves. Hell, sometimes I'd imagine how it would feel, to have the same feels a certain song displays for someone that's not even there, just to feel something. . I feel that I'm not giving myself permission to be happy and do what I want to do, when I'm here listening to these great emotional songs. I realize, it's time for me to step out of these genre and tunes for awhile. It's like a fight against myself, trying to discover my true potential and happiness. Just wanted to randomly vent, since it's such a great community here. Happy holidays y'all and 2017 will be a rocking new year!
you are not alone, I feel the same way, the hack, I don't think that I have ever been in a serious relationship, but this great emotional music always gets me feeling some find of way, to be honest I don't it, it is nice to feel something, sometime life gets you caught up and you just forget how to feel such an emotion, don't know just wanted to say you are not alone.
Hey... I'm in a relationship but I have been listening to these songs since forever and I will be listening to them till the end. I can spot a difference between this kind of 'sad' the songs give off and the original kind of 'sad'. I am influenced by the songs and get sad, but I'm not really sad. I just broaden my thoughts. My life is really good and I'm really fortunate. But without that melancholy, I'd be nothing.
I think there's no need to force yourself to do something. Just try to relate the correct emotions to the correct events in your life. You can listen to sad songs even when you're happy. It means nothing because you ARE happy. Music can change our emotions, but that's something we control ourselves. Keep listening to sad music. Just don't forget to live happily, regardless of your music. There's a special one for you, like everyone on Earth. And when you find that special one, you'll understand what I mean.

My take on the video since I see lots of comments asking what the video is about. Seems fairly obvious that the lyrics are self explanatory but The girl is/has fallen out of love with the boy. She cares for him, and doesn't want to hurt him judging by the look she gives him but its not a look of love, its of not knowing how not to hurt him. He's in the mentality that it may just be a bump in the road or they've had hard times like this before and tries reignite what they had, possibly planning the overnight trip, but its apparent the silence of the whole night is not a good sign. The drive back and the trip to the pho place in between he comes to a realization that its over, and when she rolls over back at home in bed despite him still trying to hold her is her increasing need for space and her attempt to be more cold towards him in hopes it'll make things easier down the line.
Feel like some of us can relate a ton to this. The melody starts off with a hopeful tone to it with birds chirping and staring deeply into each others eyes and by the end we move to a more meloncholic yet cathartic realization in the boy has a sense of understanding yet unconditional love for her. We see and hear that we are at a point of no return and thats what makes us want to cling to the hope in the beginning, in a sort of nostalgic kind of way. Pretty crazy range of emotions for a short song imo. The beginning and end are beautiful in their own right.
I'd also like to add in the beginning she opens her eyes first and is staring. Most likely a sign of what she needs to do and let go, and that The lyrics are seemingly based on her emotions yet the music video shows more of the boys grief, kind of showing a communication disconnect in a symbolic sort of way.
I love everything you said and it all makes sense and is explained very well.
But what if the beginning and the end are just an endless cycle? The beginning and end they wake up in the same place with the same blanket and scenery.
At the end she wakes up again, maybe it was all just a dream. Perhaps there is still hope, or maybe it was her subconscious showing her how things will be. Maybe she can fix it after this dream and realize what she has. Again maybe it's just an endless cycle of dreams, or just the realization of everything you said portrayed inside of a dream. Is it all real or will it soon become real?

One of the things I love most about this song is the way that the lyrics are so ambiguous that they will resonate differently to each and every person, and the same can be said for its melodic sound. I’ve listened to this track probably every single day for at least 6 months, and it’s been a sad song, a love song, an inspirational song, a reflection, revelation.. depending on what’s happening in that present moment in my life. Who can’t relate to not needing “this” like you used to? Who hasn’t been “blinded” by someone or something? It can just be taken in SO many different ways. I’ve never seen a video for it until now and I’m IN AWE of how beautifully it captured the song!! For me, I have been them both in so many relationships. The times that I knew it was over, embracing those final moments. From the times I’ve been so enamored that I looked past the wrongdoings. The times you wish the person could change, or love you the way that you need. The times you wish you didn’t care so much, the times you genuinely don’t care at all, The times that you just want to be let in. The times that you just want to let go. The times that you love that person… knowing you’re not truly in love. What could have happened to them is a matter of perception, and that perception is based on experience. Whose to say to say that this was a happy or sad ending? Maybe it was just an ending.. or a beginning. “Blinded” is a masterpiece that showcases the profound brilliance of music and its ability to move you. Whoever made this video - all the respect & love!
Almost 2 years later I still love this video. For some reason I think it's so powerful how it's him who has lost interest vs her, it just hits your emotions harder I think. It's so beautifully done

Love is so dam interesting, complicated and hard sometimes. This video captures one of those complicated "endings" of a relationship most of us will have to go through and geez is it fu**ing difficult. It's like we all have this hopeless romantic part of us inside and see just what should/would/can be but that's the thing, that's not how life is and it's a painful lesson we have to accept. Like from the perspective of the guy, he probably sees her and thinks of how amazing she is and looks at her deeply...but the love just isn't there... Does he wish the love was still there? I'm sure. Does he think of all the good times they've had in the past? Definitely. Does he imagine what the future COULD be like just if..? I would think so. You want life to be simple and hopelessly romantic and amazing. It would still hurt him (as it does all of us) to accept letting her go and seeing her fall for someone else, with you having to start the process all over again while thinking of the adventures you once had with her. But that's just it.... that's life.... -thoughts from a hopeless romantic

I'm in a relationship at the moment and can see most parts of how my girlfriend and I feel. It's different from day to day, from minute to minute. And that's the interesting thing about our relationship. Not always being in the mood. Not always having a great time. Difficulties come often. You know, it might be helpful. Cause we'd think of the perfect relationship as one that is just flowing flawlessly. But that wouldn't be a relationship.

Stratos I agree. I was in a 6 year relationship and for me it was almost the same thing everyday but it was amazing for both of us. We were always in the mood and rarely ever had fights. We had little fights like a few times per year and we saw each other literally every day of our lives. We never married. I met her when i was 14. Our relationship was not flawless but close enough. So yea i hear ppl say all the time that fighting is part of a relationship, and ive had some pretty bad fights in that relationship but i can count them on one hand. Fighting and difficulties dont have to be commonplace to keep a relationship going. It only ended because we both wanted to experience something different and she ended up cheating on me.

This song/video is very ambiguous... Lots of ways you could probably interpret it, but here's my take:
It's definitely portraying a strained relationship, but I think some of the creative genius lies in the lyrics, which could be spoken by either character, but for different reasons. This is visually represented by the camera shots, which alternate between views of just him, and views of just her (i.e. his perspective / her perspective), almost like you are seeing what they each see when they look at each other.
Lyrics for reference:

His perspective: He's longing for the affection and playfulness they used to have in their relationship (note scene with other couple in the truck, 1:58), but he's trying to convince himself he "doesn't need it like he used to", because he's "blinded by" how much he loves her.
Her perspective: She's longing the rush and excitement of being infatuated with someone. They've been together for a long time, and and he doesn't make her feel that way anymore and so she "doesn't need him like she used to", because "she's been blinded" by the repetitiveness of being with the same person for so long.
And in the end she turns away from him. A lot of people think it means it’s over. But at the same time it’s left to interpretation. Btw I really like your take on this.

In 2015, after struggling with grades all throughout high school and college, I finally decided to drop out to pursue my music in LA. Working at a pizza place to pay rent, I would wake up at 6am every morning before work and make songs in every genre that I could, just to push myself. One day, a friend of mine noticed this and asked me if I wanted to sit in on the songwriting class that he was taking at UCLA. Having absolutely no formal knowledge of songwriting, I decided to take him up on his offer and see what I could learn. On the first day of class, I quickly realized that not a single person, including the professor, had any idea that I wasn’t a UCLA student, so I decided to continue attending the classes until someone noticed. Each week we would bring in an original song, and each week the professor would absolutely tear my song to pieces. “There’s no structure…none of your lyrics make any sense.” On the forth week, as we were running through lyrics from one of my songs, one of the lines repeated itself. Mid sentence, the professor stopped me and said, “Emmit…this is the best thing you’ve done in this class so far. Repetition is going to be your strongest tool. It will emphasize the true meaning of a line ”. Absolutely furious at the fact that repeating two lines was his favorite thing I had ever done, I thought it would be funny if the song I wrote the following week only repeated the same two lines, over and over again. Instead of emphasizing the meaning, I wanted the meaning of the line to change each time it was repeated so each line had a different story behind it. After about ten pages scratch and hundreds of lines, I finally wrote “I don’t need this like I used to, I feel blinded, blinded by you”. The song was finished that night.
I never went back to the class. Never showed it to the professor.
That is the story of “Blinded”

Ahahaha better not to hear those words trust me, twice my ex boyfriend almost shot himself and called me with a gun pointed to his head, so I stayed on the phone for hours and talked him out of it, told him that he was stronger, he wad good enough, tha I needed him, and he was worth living and all stuff like that. He told me those words after. "If there wasn't for you I wouldn't be alive right now." But then he forgot everything I did for him and betrayed me with the first passing by girl. You know how does it make you feel ?! It makes you feel like he doesn't deserve to even be alive after all that. After you are shaking, crying, calling friends to get to find him, scared to death that he will just pull the freaking trigger, after you save him from himself he just finds another girl, just like nothing happened, like you were nothing to him, like you two never existed like that. 😂🤷♀️ If someone will ever say it to you I hope that person will be sincere and loyal at least to her/his words. ❤️

I found this song by sure luck but damn I just wanted to say that this is the best song I’ve heard in a long time. It hits a spot in a way that I can’t even explain with words.
First time I heard this song was back in 2019 when this guy came up to me and we heard the song together. That was the first time I have ever felt connected not only to the song but to someone else. Back in my college days, I used to go on walks with my girlfriend late at night (12-4 AM).
We'd walk down to the gas station near where we lived and get ourselves a couple sodas and a snack. And we'd just chat, snack, and walk the night away. Walking down that late-night road, where only tired truckers and speeding racers visited.
Those emotions shown in the video are so strong!
Interesting how everyone saw it as the guy trying to reach out to the girl and connect with her again; for some reason I saw it the other way too. The guy looked sad from the start; and she'd look at him and quickly look away etc - like she was afraid or not sure how to help him. And the flashbacks of 'happier times' - perhaps a past camping trip when they first started dating? And this trip was sort of a last ditch effort to rekindle their love? God it makes me sad. The way she turned her back at the end. The ending though, when they woke up like they did at the beginning, was it all a bad dream? His worst fear? I just want to watch this over and over. Love the cinematography and I really want to know what its actually about.

I kinda like that it's distorted. when your feelings are fucked up and your mind weighs heavy nothing is clear and for me the distortion is a perfect representation of that

Same here. This song popped up on my spotify after my wife left. I had never in my life felt such heavy loneliness. 2017 was the most depressing year of my life. After my wife left my mom died a few months later. This song was my theme song that year.

I think she was dreaming the entire time of him loving her like she wanted, when it seemed like he was the sad one throughout the video.. but it was really her in her dreams.. she was the blinded by him.. at least that's how I took it.. the last scene was her waking up...
