Proudly I worked on "Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX" game on PS1 when I was a "Games Tester" for a UK Games Developer called "Runecraft" - I loved every minute of working on it as I grew up riding BMX daily when I was younger, I loved freestyle BMX and a few of us devs are in a hidden video in the game, it's a pretty crap little vid but it's great to actually be in a vid hidden in a game. Mat Hoffman is a living BMX legend in my eyes & heart. R.I.P Dave Mirra too.
I watched matt live at Naz fest in the uk, i was the only one who screamed and put my arm up in salute and he looked straight at me and saluted back, chills went up my spine, i rode for 21yrs and i am in such dire pain, how he still does it is beyond me. A master.
Mat is the GOAT, can’t compare foam pit and resi mat tricks to those learned on wood and concrete. Today’s riders rip hard and do unimaginable things but from a gen 2 rider standpoint it goes Hoffman, Bestwick, Mira. Gen 1 was Dominguez, Blyther, Wilkerson.
100% the GOAT The leaps he made will never be repeated. He did it twice. First on vert, then that wasn't enough, so did big air in 93 !!!!!! I will never forget that. Got him to sign my birth certificate at backyard jam in England in 96. He rode vert in the rain for the crowd !!!!!!!
Me and my brother used to watch matt hoffman and tony hawk when we were young. Now we don't even talk :( Thank you matt and tony for the memories whenever you stumble while im scrolling I'm always remembering how happy I am when I was a child.
He will always be the GOAT! Dave Mira is arguably the best rider ever, but Matt Hoffman set the standard back in 86 I think? I remember seeing him for the first time on international bmx beat in the uk. I think he was 15 at the time? And he was up against a uk rider called Carlo Griggs, who was pretty rad to be fair, until the condor came out! I was gob smacked when I watched him. He just tore up the place with massive airs. He was just incredible!
I always wonder seeing more current riders(Ryan Williams, Dennis Enarson, kevin Peraza, Broc Raiford, Scotty Cranmer, etc, etc etc) how they would've stacked up against Matt Hoffman if they had their primes at the same time in the sport.
Ryan williams had no skills to ride in a vert ramps, cuz vert in my opinion were the hardest and toughest from all bmx discipline. Dennis and scotty surely will do their best cuz they are all rounded and have ability to ride in a vert
Back then, it wasn’t just about today’s tricks-it was about pushing the limits with much heavier bikes, and the creativity and difficulty were on another level. Riders like Matt Hoffman and Dave Mirra were pulling off vert runs with insane combos that, even today, stand the test of time. The level of difficulty and precision they achieved on those heavier bikes hasn't really been matched, even with modern advancements. Their runs still set the bar, proving just how legendary their impact on BMX truly is.

Age is just a number Condor is still killing it! RIP Mirra!
