I turned 18 two days before this broadcast. Today I'm 51 years old and I love these ladies and their gorgeous harmonies as much now as I did then. 😊❤🎶🎵
the killer trio with a superstar band... John Starling, Mark O'Connor, David Lindley, Herb Peterson, Russ Kunkle, Leland Sklar and Steve Fishell. Not the least bit surprised but what a treat to see all those guys together backing those ladies.
This is balm for the soul...despite being a huge admirer of all these talented artists, together and separately, I had no idea they’d appeared together on The Tonight Show in 1987. What a tremendous find-thank you for sharing it!
Nothing else sounded like this - not in 1987 - certainly not now. Three voices creating a fourth voice. Fine players surrounded these gals - a pleasure to watch Carson celebrate them.
I know Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Remy Hendrix I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Emmylou makes me cry almost every time I listen to her. Linda makes me cry when I think of what she is going through -- I lost the love of my life to MS. But I miss Johnny too!
They are great but Linda the queen of rock voice is so amazing that she can sing anything to perfection !!! Linda is such a nice person and super talented !!! Blessings and greetings from USA !!!
Dolly's mike is too close or too hot on the first song. But the background vocals come back on the last verse it seems, sound mix for mono NBC audio is a tough job. the softer song is mixed great
@@et2petty Thanks for the insight. I revisit this video regularly just to see three of the most talented, beautiful, and selfless artists that ever graced a stage.
Wow! Mark OConner, David Lindley, Leland Sklar but the guitarists were quick cutaways-no trix - no autotune - straight from the voice harmony- How it should be done
Song written by Bluegrass artist, Alan O'Bryant (of Nashville Bluegrass Band). BAND (l - r): John Starling - guitar Mark O'Connor - fiddle, mandolin Russ Kunkel - drums David Lindley - mandolin, electric guitar, acoustic guitar Leland Sklar - bass Herb Pederson - guitar, banjo Steve Fishell - Weissenborn slide guitar, Dobro
The best of the best. Ms. Ronstadt is the only member of Trio who is not in the CMHOF. Should be. Such sweeties. I laughed when Ms. Ronstadt whispered to Emmylou as 12:06 "(You talk.)" And you can see how fast Johnny is, for example, when Dolly asks him at 13: 46 "Are you superstitius?"
Never pay attention. There are people who get off on doing the thumbs down. I often see Trumpites calling Ms. Ronstadt names because of her politics. Listen to the music and smile with the rest of us.
@@claudejulien6791 I stand corrected. Mark O'Connor plays fiddle on the first song and switches to mandolin in the second song. David Lindley plays mandolin in the first song and switches to electric guitar in the second song.
They are backed by an all-star band. Goodness. Emmylou Harris just raises the hair on my skin. Linda can sing anything...and with power. Dolly is just Dolly....got to love her.
Linda Ronstadt was a great singer (even if I don't agree with her political views) and it is very unfortunate what she is going through so much pain from the illness that took away my mother, Parkinson's Disease.
@@georgebur My parentheses were to indicating Linda's back up band name, not that Frey and Henley were the Stone Poneys. I phrased it wrong with my addition of the word "members." Thanks for the clarification.
Man, I just had a thought while watching this. Wouldn't it be awesome to use this video and song in the movie The Tree Amigos lol just a funny thought .
Linda’s my favorite, but why with all the music out there did you pick the hobo song? 🤷🏻♂️🙂 And great time to get a plug in about being Mexican since Canciones de Mi Padre came out about the same time. I thought I’d struck gold twice getting two albums so close together.
Not a question for me. The hobo song is glorious. Ms. Ronstadt's soaring, soaring lead and Dolly and Emmylou backing. Dolly and Emmylou are inconsistently backing, too. Dolly drops out at one point and Emmylous continues harmony. Dolly puts her hand on Emmy's shoulder, and they both laugh.
@@stevevasquez1084 I do. You are saying that Ms. Ronstadt didn't need much make-up. Well, it's tv -- hot lights, etc. Or maybe you are right. Ms. Ronstadt was gorgeous with no make-up. Anyway, for me it's about the music. This is perfect to listen to while I am patiently sitting at home waiting out the quarantine.
Just divine. I could listen to them all day every day.

Thanks for identifying everyone. I did not recognize Messrs. Starling and Fishell.

Thank you so much, you really help me out !
@Cash Cristiano happy to help :)
Three distinct styles in looks and music formed an intoxicating blend of beautiful performances
Music the way it should be played and sung. These three ladies are the epitomy of excellence.
True... completely their voice melted to a perfect melodies..

love the sound of these three heavenly voices in unison,, but when Linda sings lead,,,,, her voice just soars head and shoulders above the other 2.
Emmylou is the greatest. Linda is awesome as well and has been a wonderful friend to Emmylou.

Voices of angels all great ladies with a world of talent. They can’t be matched.😇😇😇💗

Who’s band were they? Linda’s, dolly’s or Emmy Lou’s?
Emmy Lou...those BOOTS!! 💓💓💓💓
I was so cool to find out that David Lindley was Linda Ronstadt's cousin.
Huge Linda and Jackson Browne fan… I did not know that.

Absolute magnificence! I'd like to know which four people disliked this...
Never pay attention. There are people who get off on doing the thumbs down. I often see Trumpites calling Ms. Ronstadt names because of her politics. Listen to the music and smile with the rest of us.
The 4 dumb ones...
As I always say, ignore the haters. They are everywhere. They spend their time dong thumbs-down on various threads. They are not fans.
I HAVE THIS ALBUM, I THINK I WORE OUT SOME OF THE SONGS... WHEN IT CAME OUT ON CD , YES I BOUGHT IT..... IT'S THE BEST........ LOVE EM....
Great singers. But I'm tickled to see David Lindley playing mandolin in the backup band.
Thank you, Tom. Trying to educate myself about all the musicians I should've paid attention to back in the day.
It's Mark O'Connor who plays the mandolin (he plays the fiddle on the first song)
@@claudejulien6791 I stand corrected. Mark O'Connor plays fiddle on the first song and switches to mandolin in the second song. David Lindley plays mandolin in the first song and switches to electric guitar in the second song.
Since Johnny mentioned it being Friday the 13th, this must have aired on March 13, 1987.

i hope one day, somebody finds in the vault enough material for TRIO 3
That somebody better hurry up as time is running out on all three of them.
@@UFGator1972 , i was speaking of already recorded material. sadly, Linda will never sing again.

Live TV! Great observation 🌴😎🌈Aloha
This is what the Angels sound like when they sing
sheer poetry
talk about an all-start backup band!!
O'Connor on the fiddle, it looks like?
Oh Linda
I wonder if Johnny and viewers realized what an ALL STAR BACK UP BAND the gals had that night?
I was just thinking as I watched this - how good would a guy have to be to play back up for these three ladies? And how lucky!
Back in time, two of Linda's original band [The Stone Poneys] members, Don Henley and Glenn Frey, went on to form the Eagles.
@@wagonmaster1974 Not exactly. They did back Linda but were not The Stone Poneys.
I do see Leland Sklar on bass, and we've been told of Mark O'Connor on fiddle. Who else?
