i remember making a simple platformer level in blender game engine. kinda sad that it was removed. i never got into those bigger engines like unity or unreal.
It still exists, just not in the official Blender releases. If you want to use it, It's a fork called UPBGE. It's only getting better, and they even got it setup to run with eevee.
@@D.S69blender game engine has a feature most other game engines don't have, and that is logic nodes
I hope this is understandable, I use a translator.
I want to correct something, the newest Blender Game Engine version is "Range Engine". UPBGE 0.3.X has a horrible performance, because there more the old engine in the core is integrated again and again into the newest Blender version. In addition, Eevee can produce good graphics but is too slow for games, yes Eevee is even worse than the old renderer of Blender 2.79 for games.
Range Engine is supposed to change that by rewriting the engine piece by piece. There were already modernizations like PBR, Python 3.1, new interface (based on Blender 3.x), a new debugger and other new features.
Range is still using OpenGl 2.1, but in the future they will upgrade to OpenGl 3.2.
The problem with the license will also be solved via the Armor Export.
These are the points that I currently know.
Also, one of the biggest performance killers of the engine is finally being addressed, CPU skinning. GPU skinning is supposed to come soon
Currently, general range version 1.2 is publicly available and the 1.4.x versions are for Patreon. Once 1.5.x versions are available for Patreon, the 1.4.x version will be free for all.
Of the 3 Blender game engines (UPBGE, Armory3D, Range Engine) Range Engine currently has the biggest chance to become a stable and serious usable engine. Armory3D has also a high potential as an engine developed since the beginning but it is still too cumbersome to use and spits out too many bugs. UPBGE honestly makes me sad, I have enormous respect for the work but it is unusable from 0.3.x due to terrible performance.
Big Buck Bunny done in 2008 done 15 years ago was the open movie that steered me towards blender. It was a high level 3D movie done at the time and it still holds up today 15 years later showing that blender have been doing great indie projects for almost 2 decades now. With the first movie being Elephant Dream which was great as well.
It was a wrong decision just look at UPBGE based on the Blender game engine! it's so capable! you can use all of the Blender power in real time! with Eevee Next UPBGE will be so powerful even! I don't know why they can't see the power here! Godot can't come close to it! making an entire game in Blender would be soo god! UPBGE is capable of 2D and 3D with Grease Pencil and all of the Blender power like Geometry Nodes! good thing we have UPBGE! I definitely will check it out when they support Eevee Next and when Conjure SDF Add On come out!
i like the idea of playing you characters to animate them, creating npc for background charcters, general features in the game engine such as creating and destroying objects for construction/destruction effects. i also miss particle reactor!
They still have it, it has just become it's own software
Hi.
In video.. Time 7:29.. I saw watch ⌚ tutorial or...
Can someone tell me where I find this video?
I think some aspects of the game engine would be useful for long projects.
Pure nostalgia, I had a lot of fun doing things in the Blender Game Engine, nothing serious, just for fun. Good times.
Well I can guess it either the team or person working game engine frame work is not easy. Plus the outdate code could harm blender some degree. It need clean up to reduce some bugs and crashes. Finally the API stuff which is a lot work and a lot of changes. Still there many people willing to work it still as long there no shady stuff going on. It hard to maintain to build game engine node system. It would required a lot of people talk and the use of other develop team. As well understand of the artilect design.
GOOD VID MAN keep going nice job love ya!
I'm using the game engine in blender 2.79 to develop my first game.thinking of switching over to the BGE UP engine or range engine but I need to have something that can transfer over to unity for release and conversion reasons.but I've been having loads of fun making it in blender!!it will be my first commercial release 😁🙌🔥🔥💯✅❤️
don't know what gpu you are using but having bought a 3060, i after found out 2.79 cycles won't work with it. not an issue for the blender renderer/realtime game graphics but it did feel like a kick in the gut after blender 3.0 wouldn't work with w7 (though i could have got around that as upbge 3.0 has a version that does).
Did not know that
Bro can you make a video on which render engines are available for Blender currently just an overview sort of thing.....!
At one point all of them but most are commercial and you're at the whim of them providing new plugins every blender release which they dont... MentalRay, LuxCore, Octane, VRay, Maxwell, PovRay Those are all the ones I've tried through the years with blender :)
Did UE5 have anything to do with it? doesnt EPIC also fund Blender? Anyone know of DREAMS on PS4
it was anb error, now the only version i have on my computer is upbge of course
proprietary code is such a terrible excuse to remove a feature
The documentation specifically says you can sell your games made with this gnu gpl engine with no problem whatsoever. You can not however claim the coding rights as yours; while you can still copyright your 3d 2d assets if you made them.
when I first using blender I expect to make game with blender game engine. But it to be hard decision of contributor because back then blender has many feature but few people using that
It's a good call. UE5 it's already great and blender must focus on being a 3d software
They should create a separate game engine instead of incorperating it.
Don't forget; Unreal ALSO made a hefty donation to Armory and the guy mysteriously stopped working on the engine and went to focus on the painting and shader authoring tools instead.
But much to Unreal's chagrin, Amory is opensource and now easier for everyone to access and modify now.
I also thought the blender game engine was rather cool. I even made my own game called twin towers were you control a projectile airplane and fly it into to block towers in an attempt to knock them both down with one
they should bring it back
@@urmomsareolaI agree with you, I would rather that time be placed somewhere else like slightly faster soft body sims :(
I would rather them focus on their strengths. Hopefully to either light a fire under Autodesk or overtake their market share.
I hope they bring it back
Tho atleast theres upbge
Interesting!
Becouse Godot better than old node-based BGE (btw its still alive in classic Blender 2.79). Blender will can be trying made new built-in game engine, but this is very long work (make another good fast game render instead slowly for full and nice realtime eevee, make exellent new scripting instead old node logic or powerfull, but very worst looking/useful current phyton implementation) and after this final result can still be dramatic far away from both current Godot lines.

the assets arent GPL, it make 0 sense for an asset to have an software licence.
I don't think they could compete, Unreal 5.0 is a massive upgrade and Unity is making big AI advancements
Thanks!
I’ve been using UPBGE for the past 5 years very difficult 😥 but I love fact that I can use IK animations.
I’ll check out the Range Engine!!🎉
they could have just kept it and not update it just as a starter idea
3:15 video starts
The showcased Unreal Engine logo has the number "4" to indicate Unreal Engine 4 - however, Unreal Engine 5 is the latest Unreal Engine version. Perhaps use a more up-to-date logo next time?
they should team up with godot or something to reintegrate the Godot engine into
The Godot engine is probably the closest you get as its also uses the Python syntax for programming but the difference is that GDscript is optimized for game development and thus as I understand many times faster then actual native Python that Blender uses. I have not checked the actual performance difference betweeen GDScript and native Python but as I have seen Python is the slowest of all programming languages when it comes to execution speed. I think Lua might be even slower executing then Python when I checked a performance list recently, there Lua was at the bottom and Python nr 2 from the bottom when it came to execution speed. Still Roblox games use Lua and performs very decent without lag and performance issues including in fast paced racing games (at least in my experience when I play Roblox games with a friend now and then) so I dont know how important this fact is.
@@johnpekkala6941 yeah personally I think that modern computers are adequate enough to where even what we consider to be slow languages like Python and luar fast enough to still be used for games. I remember playing Counter-Strike mods written entirely in l u a r & spine, which I know isn't really a good comparison but I agree with what you're saying
just as i was looking into the game engine. its removed lol fuck
1M2$ is nothing...
I must say that I loved having the game engine simply for testing animations and animation blending. It's sad to not have built in anymore.
I think there's a Plug in which adds it back
