I am so thankful I came across your video. I was having trouble with my car and having to jump start it. Took it to the dealership and they said it was the alternator. So, I replaced the alternator and the battery. It was neither one. So, checked the the rear view camera like you said in the video and boom. It had alot of corrosion. My battery started going up to.
It certainly a strange situation where a back up camera system won't allow a vehicle to start. Good for you to have it taken care of. Thanks for the comments. - Greg Buckley
i own this exact vehicle (even color) in the video. It was at a ford dealership for 3+ weeks. battery was completely draining within 8hrs of shutting the vehicle off and couldn't locate the issue. I saw your video and requested they take a look. the wiring plugs for my backup camera were stained blue from the washer fluid, causing a short, and in-turn caused the bcm for the power liftgate to never shut off. thank you for posting the video.
This is one of the 1st videos I watched in researching my issue. If i had simply removed my hatch cover and inspected that connector I could have saved myself $367 for the patasitic draw testing. Not to mention the $850 for alternator, battery, and labor. The tech filled the connector with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion and keep out moisture.
I literally just got home (March 2023) from Ford Dealer on my 2018 Explorer with a parasitic draw killing my battery. After having my vehicle for a week, the problem turned out to be corrosion on rear backup camera connection just as in your video. 4 hrs labor and $600 to diagnose the problem. 😥 Wish I had seen your video sooner 👍

A Ford that won't start.. Big surprise. Though, I am sometimes amazed at how they find ways to not start.
