My dad loved this film. Not just because it was funny but because we'd lost mom a couple years earlier and it resonated strongly with him. Leave it to Pixar to come up with the most absurd premise and make you live, love and laugh all the way through it.
Coco did the same thing for me as I have a Latino background. Lost my mother in 2017. It was tough but life is an adventure and these movies are made with love to remind us of that. I'm sorry for your loss. Just remember "The Spirit of the Deceased Lies in the Memory of the Living " ❤🙏
I honestly think this movie is a masterpiece. I don't think there's that many movies that leave me this emotional throughout, it's a rollercoaster! It's wonderfully imaginative and contains some very important lessons for people of all ages. It's one of those movies everyone should watch at least once.
The opening will never not draw out all the emotions. And then when the montage ends, and you think to yourself that it is over, emotionally speaking, the movie hits you with the "No" and then keeps going
The 5 minute montage at the beginning of this movie is more emotional and heartfelt than many movies today. Doug is ALWAYS going to win, because dogs are colorblind and they are all grey to him. Dogs aren't really colorblind, but that is the factoid that has come about. edit: Do me a favor and watch the movie "Tangled." While "UP" is the last great Disney film they made, "Tangled" is their magnum opus and it's not even Pixar.
Dogs absolutely are colour blind. They have only two colour receptors (called cones) in their eyes, whereas humans typically have three. The misconception is that they see in black & white, where the reality is that they see the same way a colourblind person does.
this movie does a surprisingly good job of showing what people go through when they lose their partner. It's been a while since my fiance passed away, and his loneliness, struggle to find a reason to keep going, and finding things that are worth living for and letting other people into his life is handled so incredibly well. To me this is pixar's best film and i will always be impressed a silly kids movie handled it all so much better than any other movie i have seen
This is the *perfect* movie for you. Never apologize for having empathy - you have a good heart, and that is quite a treasure. Revel in it ❤ And when they were spotting cars at the end - Dug's a dog. Colorblind. All cars are grey to him. Of course he'll win!
RIP Ed Asner. He passed away in 2021. He's one of the voices burned into my brain since I was a little kid, thanks to him playing J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man:The Animated Series. Even now, when I think of the character, it's a toss-up if I hear Ed or JK Simmons in my head. And then this movie, with Carl and Ellie....UGH.... The first 11 or whatever minutes of this movie are absolutely devastating. And when he finally reads the rest of her book..... I think having Ed Asner's voice in my life since I was like 8 makes everything that happens to Carl feel like it's even more real, and happening to my grandpa or something.
Reading your first sentence, I thought you were about to say, "thanks to him playing Lou Grant." He also had good guest roles on Route 66 and Naked City.
My husband died at the age of 40 20 years ago. There were so many things we wanted to do and we never got to do them. I've been in a relationship now for over 17 years with a very good man. But he's in his '60s and I'm 70 and we haven't done a fraction of the things that we want to do together. Life just goes by so fast. If you get a chance to do things you want to do, do them. Don't let life pass you by.
“Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” The opening of the film having their life together cut short absolutely tugged on the heartstrings, but it was the reveal of the Ellie’s adventure book pages filled with their life together that really got me.
This is one of the best movies I've seen as it is a true depiction of life. How fast it goes by and, to charish all the special moments whenever possible.

After watching this movie the first time I started joking with one of my blonde sisters who loves blonde jokes. I would interrupt any conversation by pointing and saying "squirrel". To this day it cracks us both up.
Dogs are not color blind, at least not in the sense you imply. They have color receptors in their retinas, but not as many as humans, and they do not see reds and greens very well.

It's a hell of a thing to meet your soulmate in childhood. Detaching from them at such an advanced age almost beggars belief. But it's the ultimate honor of them and resolution to grief to carry on as if they're still here. Whatever you believe, when people are gone, they are essentially reduced to memory and feeling. And when you reflect you realize that this person came and went in your life and there was this....entire theme to them and the effect they brought to your view of the world. To live under the lesson(s) their entire life taught you is the best immorality you can give them. They don't live anymore...but their effect proves that they did.
❤😂😢 yeah this movie takes you by surprise, and as a 54 year old single dad of a 9 year old boy, it hits hard sometimes . I watched it with my son and he had seen it before luckily he didn't spoil it for me. Had lots of great characters with Doug and Kevin the Doberman who squeaks like a chihuahua, lol but it was an adventure that was definitely worth the trip and I'm glad I got to watch you go through it too. May we take many more together, live long and prosper
Doug reminds me so powerfully of my Dog (not the breed, he was a Border Collie, but in the whole happy loyal kind sweetness) who I lost a few years ago that I've always found "Up" an almost physically painful watch since. I wish I could've just told him once that I loved him and know that he understood like Doug could.
Great reaction to one of the best animated films ever made. So beautiful, funny, and heartbreaking. 40-year-old me bawled like a baby when Ellie passed away at the start of the film.I always appreciate your insight and your emotional investment into the stuff you watch-keep up the great work!
The timing of this movie aligned well with another move I watched last night- Nomadland. Both touched upon how life might go on after losing ones spouse, and how leaving on an adventure can alleviate some of the pain, but in the end, one must find peace inside oneself. I had to fight off tears during the whole movie.
Like everything Pixar has done, Up is a brilliant film. I don't know at what point exactly Pixar evolved from 'well made family movie with a good story and lesson' to 'kids are still going to find this a well-made movie with a good story and lesson, but for everyone else we're going to stick a knife in your emotions, and twist, and you will be crying and even a little transformed', but this is definitely in the latter category. I think the transformation might have been Wall-E. Loved your reaction and engagement with the movie, as always!
True about how as kids she did enough talking for the both of them. My interpretation is that he's an introvert, but she's not an extrovert. She chatted his ear off and even shared secrets with him, but she didn't really push him for verbal reactions, yet they did share an interest in having an adventure. And that last line "You don't talk very much... I like you!" then left him alone. She didn't say "You should talk more!" or the like.
The montage at the beginning is the most talked-about part of the movie, and there's certainly a good reason for that. But the moment that hits me even harder--every single time I watch this--is when Carl finds the photos Ellie put in the adventure book. I don't even have to explain why because you already said everything I would've said about it during the reaction.
Yes. The Adventure Book is the pivotal moment in the story. Ellie's last words to Carl enabled him to let go of his grief and get back to enjoying life.
Such a cute reaction 😊. I think a lot of people do not realise what they’re getting into when they watch this movie. It’s so much better than it looks!

Thank you for your honest and pure reaction!! This is the Best of the Pixar movies. I've seen Hardcore high school students cry watching this movie. I cried the first time I saw this movie (at 47), My grown daughters and I cry each time, and I cried with you. --- Best Part(s): "Kevin's a girl?" Russell "Hi, I just met you and I love you." Dug. The saddest: Carl realizing Ellie was his adventure and he didn't get it until after she was gone. Quoting a song: "Sometimes the obvious things are the hardest to see." Martirio - The Warning😎
While don't want you get upset, I appreciate you sharing this watch with us. (I hope you had a good cry and feel better now) This is quite a wonderful movie. "Up": In 10 minutes, Carl and Ellie live a life with more love and emotion that most Hollyweird productions can't match in 2 hours! Then Carl is alone, surrounded by the city. Wilderness Explorer Russell knocks on his door and the adventure begins... 25:15 "I'm not the right person to watch a movies like this." Really? But you've seen "Alien" (1979) and "Train to Busan" (2016)! For a change of pace, get on the Speedy Beaver bus to Oregon. Spend some time at The Mystery Shack in "Gravity Falls." Or, take a look at "Firefly.";)
When I first saw this movie, I didn't know that it was going to hit me as hard as it did. At the beginning and at the end, I cried so much watching this movie.
Pixar: We should make a movie that is wholesome and geared towards kids...... Satan: BUT LETS RIP EVERYONE'S HEARTS OUT IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES!!! Pixar: Ooooh yeah.
Technically, I still consider this a creation from Pixar Animation Studios. Disney can add its name in the title but this is in its heart and soul a creation from the studio in Emeryville. Peter. Peter Docter is one of the creative heads at Pixar and wrote the stories for Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999) plus WALL-E (2008), directed and wrote the stories for. Monster, Inc. (2001) , Up, and Inside Out (2015). The brilliance of Up is that it so effective as an animation in the first five minutes to bring adults to tears in a montage with very little dialogue. It has you hooked at the very start. Such a powerful movie. It is Disney in name only. Disney meanwhile, did a dirty with John Carter (2012) which was directed by fellow Pixar alumnus, Andrew Stanton. It was poorly marketed. Do yourself a favor and check out this film, based on the first book of the Barsoom science fiction series, A Princess of Mars (1912), penned by Edward Rice Burroughs, famously, also the creator of Tarzan. It is my opinion, that John Carter is a highly underrated film.
Pixar Animation Studios did indeed make this film. Disney was just the distributor. Pixar became a subsidiary of Disney in 2006, but it is still the same film-making entity. The good people of Pixar still make their own great films.
24:03 “Why didn’tcha… ask your _dad_ how to build a tent?” “I don’t think he wants to talk about this stuff.” Besides, a lot of dads don’t know _how_ to pitch a tent.
For years, I wouldn't watch this film. Nothing against it, I just seldom watch Disney animation. Friends kept telling me I need to watch it because it relates to everyone and if you watch it you'll understand. I finally watched it and I did understand. Many of us have lost people very dear to us, the circumstances may be different, but the hurt and the need to heal is universal. It's a beautiful film, and I'm glad I decided to watch it.
12:20 “I mean, what I want to know is how long has he been _prepping_ this?” Don’t try to impose _adult_ considerations on this, Bunny. It’s a _kid’s_ movie.
This film is not a “kids movie”. It’s a brilliant film for everyone young and old. We can also argue that younger children shouldn’t watch it, as they will not fully understand and appreciate the serious themes in the film.
@@Stogie2112 "Because there are parts they won't understand" is not a reason kids shouldn't watch a given movie. Consider _Shrek 2._ The target audience is kids, but it was made by people who understood that the kids who saw it in _theaters_ would mainly be kids who saw it with their _parents,_ so they added a lot of themes that kids wouldn't understand or notice, but the _parents_ would. Like all the puns in the Kingdom of Far Far Away. A shop called Versarchery, another shop called Olde Knavery, and such. These are puns that kids won't appreciate but parents _will._ It does not make the case that the movie is inappropriate for kids, though. _The Terminator_ is a movie that's inappropriate for kids. It's inappropriate because it's _graphic_ and has moments of _nudity._
"Incredibly sweet and emotional" sums it up pretty well. :) Up is one of my favorite Pixar movies, ever. Made by Pete Docter, who directed another Pixar masterpiece, Inside Out, a few years later. I remember watching it, back in 2009, and thinking... "Ratatouille... Wall-E... now THIS... in a row... these people are geniuses". The best part being that the following year, they'd release Toy Story 3. ^^;
14:08 "Why is he . . . cutting balloons?" His daydream just showed that lowering Russel to the ground is probably a bad idea, so he's preparing to land the house to get rid of him. (Of course, the storm makes that a moot point.)
'Glad we got that woman's death out of the way, I always assumed she died...now the movie can get going'. First time I have heard that response to the opening of Up.
I've heard that Carl was based on a real person and his life (roughly). In spite of that, if you look up the guy who voiced the character (Ed Asner), I think the animation captured his essence as well.
Mrs. Bunny, it's been a while since I've watch this film , I'm 63 and manly (I THINK) when it comes to this film I loved it! Many of my friends loved it because of laughter in it , but to me it's important to do things together and show love to those who are close to you ,because we know the time will come that many of the stuff in this movie will effect us personally, we can learn from this movie make the time count to family and friends and make wonderful memories now so that one could look back and have joy and a smile. P.S I always think of the BIBLE BOOK OF ECCLESIASTES. You done well with this choice ,thank you BUNNY.
I've watched many reactions to "Up", and there are a few reactors who did NOT cry. Honest! 😲 They're the small minority, of course. The very large majority of reactors did cry, and some cried a LOT. 😭 I would give the "Needs A Crying Towel" Award to Bissflix, who dehydrated herself during the film. 🏆
Saw this at the great 1920's Theater the Castro in San Francisco when it came out with my then girlfriend. I remember after the first ten minutes thinking, how the hell are they going to recover from this? Im sad now with a mix of annoyance and curiosity. I had a lot of great dates with her, this was simple and not planned, but ended up being one of the best because of how great the film is.
Subtle joke, but an aerial battle between fighter aircrafts that are conducted at close range is called a "dog"fight. Love the main theme waltz in this movie and how a simple change in tone or tempo completely conveys what emotions are happening in the movie. What's crazy is that the director of my favorite normal animated movie, The Iron Giant (Brad Bird) ended up directing my favorite Pixar animated movie to date, Ratatouille. I am 38 yo male and there are a ton of animated movies that just destroy me. The Wild Robot (not Disney) which just came out is my animated film of the year and I couldn't stop feeling throughout the entire film. A Silent Voice is one I just discovered which is an anime that deals with some really hard topics. Just so many. Would love to see more animated movie reactions keep sneaking into your channel. It's okay to cry and feel emotional, we're all human.
Others if you havent seen... 1. Se7en 2. The Princess Bride 3. The Fall (2006) by Tarsem Singh 4. Stranger than Fiction 5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Dogs are not color blind. They have two types of cones in their retinas, whereas Humans have three types. Dogs can see shades of blue, yellow and grey. They can't see red or green. What a Human sees as red, a dog sees as yellow. What a Human sees as green, a dog sees as white.
Doug the Dog seeing gray cars was a colorblindness joke, though that is a misconception in part. Dogs can see colors, just mostly blue and yellow and no red at all.
There are alot of theories about this movie. 1 is that Carl Fredrickson is actually dead. 2 that Russell is really Carl's spirit helper or guardian angel guiding him to his 'heaven'. 3 that Russell is the re-incarnation of the baby Carl & Ellie lost and again is helping his 'father' hence the absence or his real father in the movie. Doug is just Dog with a 'U' in it. Most dogs except Doug have names based on the Greek Alphabet: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta ect. Pixar has a thing for Absentee Fathers. Both Andy in Toy Story and Russell in UP no longer have their fathers in there life with no clear explanation. Same the with Jonny Quest's missing mother. Ratatouille is a much better movie IMO. Much more realistic, once you get past the highly intelligent Rat stuff.🙂🙂🙂
Wait you stopped watching Disney & Pixar and feeling too old? This are words that doesn’t fit together. I am 27 and still watching Disney and Pixar in my freetime. Nice to get you back in the wonderful world of Disney and Pixar, can’t wait for you to experience it 😊❤

What is even funnier is when people watch the OG star wars films and think the new added cgi was actually the cgi used in tbe original films. 🤣🤣
Your comments are always so insightful. Love your reactions.
Thanks! 😊
Thank you, again, Bunny...one of my absolute favorites!
You're welcome!
This is one of my go to movies when I need to cry. It's so good!
No one survives the opening of this movie without a box of tissues. Pixar going right for the jugular...😢
Great reaction time to watch Big Hero 6.❤
Pixar: We should make a movie that is wholesome and geared towards kids......
Satan: BUT LETS RIP EVERYONE'S HEARTS OUT IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES!!!
Pixar: Ooooh yeah.
Perfect reaction. This movie is made for adults , but kids also like it.
I follow your ST TOS reactions. When this popped up as a suggestion, I had to watch. Thank you for allowing yourself to be vulnerable.
By your comments at the end, you showed you are a wise bunny. I enjoyed watching that with you, thank you.
Thanks!
I think I’m developing a Pavlovian response of tearing up whenever I see the thumbnail of a new bunnytailsREACTS video…and I’m grateful.
24:03 “Why didn’tcha… ask your _dad_ how to build a tent?”
“I don’t think he wants to talk about this stuff.”
Besides, a lot of dads don’t know _how_ to pitch a tent.
When you're as cool as Pixar, you have the right to start a cartoon with a funeral.
Been avoiding reactions for this given the sentimentality but because it’s you, I’m glad I waited. Great heartfelt reaction Bunny.
It is Pixar animation. Pixar Animation Studios made "Up". Disney is just the distributor.
Don't watch many Pixar films, as well.
12:20 “I mean, what I want to know is how long has he been _prepping_ this?”
Don’t try to impose _adult_ considerations on this, Bunny.
These are puns that kids won't appreciate but parents _will._
It does not make the case that the movie is inappropriate for kids, though. _The Terminator_ is a movie that's inappropriate for kids. It's inappropriate because it's _graphic_ and has moments of _nudity._
Another great Pixar film for you, Soul. Very colourful.

"Incredibly sweet and emotional" sums it up pretty well. :)
Up is one of my favorite Pixar movies, ever. Made by Pete Docter, who directed another Pixar masterpiece, Inside Out, a few years later.
I remember watching it, back in 2009, and thinking... "Ratatouille... Wall-E... now THIS... in a row... these people are geniuses". The best part being that the following year, they'd release Toy Story 3. ^^;
I know of nobody who can't cry with the beginning of this movie
I love it when you get emotional Bunny. So we can both be when i watch your reaction. Last pictures i cried were WALL-E and Hachi, a dogs tale.
This is a misquote. 😊 You are paraphrasing but you have misinterpreted my thoughts.
I did phrase it awkwardly, though.
I watched this movie for the first time not long ago and loved it. I turn 60 in a couple months. You're not too old, Bunny. ❤
...and yes, I also cried.
Reaches through my laptop screen and hands a tissue to Bunny and gives her a hug ....... SQUIRREL
Thank you Yung 😊
I hope they invent that dog talking collar. I'd use it to find out what my girlfriends evil cat is thinking. I know he hates me.
UP: Making more old men cry than the Chicago Bears
Hi I just wanted to say that you are very beautiful when you cry and you are both beautiful on the inside and outside ❤
I've heard that Carl was based on a real person and his life (roughly). In spite of that, if you look up the guy who voiced the character (Ed Asner), I think the animation captured his essence as well.
If you don't cry during this movie, you are dead.
This was the absolute best film I've ever seen in IMAX 3d.
You are one of the best reactors. Thank you.
P.S
I always think of the BIBLE BOOK OF ECCLESIASTES.
You done well with this choice ,thank you BUNNY.
I've watched many reactions to "Up", and there are a few reactors who did NOT cry. Honest! 😲
They're the small minority, of course. The very large majority of reactors did cry, and some cried a LOT. 😭
I would give the "Needs A Crying Towel" Award to Bissflix, who dehydrated herself during the film. 🏆
Love the Sailor Moon shirt!
Fantastic reaction. ❤
1. Se7en
2. The Princess Bride
3. The Fall (2006) by Tarsem Singh
4. Stranger than Fiction
5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Good reaction. If you haven't watched Ratatouille or Encanto already, then you should. Also, all of the Toy Story movies.
I have not seen Ratatouille or Encanto actually. I seen Toy Story 1 and I think 2
@bunnytailsREACTS Well Bun, definitely add them to your list!
40:30 Yes, it's a Star Wars bit, but because dogs cannot see color they are all Grey Squadron instead of Red Squadron.
Dogs are not color blind. They have two types of cones in their retinas, whereas Humans have three types.
Dogs can see shades of blue, yellow and grey. They can't see red or green.
What a Human sees as red, a dog sees as yellow.
What a Human sees as green, a dog sees as white.
Unless dog eyes can surgically be installed into a human and their brain, then there is zero way of knowing this. It is merely speculatory.
Yellow seems to almost glow for many of them. Probably why they go nuts for tennis balls.
@@Stogie2112 Unless you can attach a dog eye to a human to verify, this is just conjecture
@@WheresWaldo05 ... If you look up all the readily available scientific research on dog vision, you will no longer be in the dark about the subject.
Really enjoyed your reaction!
Glad you enjoyed!
You should also watch Dug Days. It's a collection of shorts that follow Carl and Dug in a new house and it's very funny and sweet.
I can so relate to him. I lost mine almost 20 years ago. 😮💨
Doug the Dog seeing gray cars was a colorblindness joke, though that is a misconception in part. Dogs can see colors, just mostly blue and yellow and no red at all.
I think you missed the gag at the end. Dug isn't seeing grey cars. Dogs are colourblind. All the cars going by are grey to him.
Yep, I did miss it. 😅
Always a pleasure watching you cry.
😭😉
There are alot of theories about this movie.
1 is that Carl Fredrickson is actually dead.
2 that Russell is really Carl's spirit helper or guardian angel guiding him to his 'heaven'.
3 that Russell is the re-incarnation of the baby Carl & Ellie lost and again is helping his 'father' hence the absence or his real father in the movie.
Doug is just Dog with a 'U' in it.
Most dogs except Doug have names based on the Greek Alphabet:
Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta ect.
Pixar has a thing for Absentee Fathers.
Both Andy in Toy Story and
Russell in UP no longer have their fathers in there life with no clear explanation.
