About Trainspotting:
Danny Boyle's explosive film tracks the misadventures of young men in Edinburgh trying to find their way out of joblessness, aimless relationships and drug addiction. "Bumdiggydiggydiggy bumdiggy dum" - can't argue with that logic.
Manzabhad Mann 90s
LOL
That song represents, i think, Renton's need to distract himself from heroin. He's not really "quitting" heroin he's just avoiding it...during these scenes he never seems sincere in his contentment. It seems like the loud music is almost trying to drown out his addictive thoughts until Begbie shatters the whole illusion by ringing the door bell.
Ice MC - Think About The Way (1994)
And that drop further proves his thesis right.
I forgot trainspotting included an ad from the London tourism association
Christopher Barber for real?
@@lucashitoshi I believe it's an incentive provided by the UK gvt, like in Canada.
Christopher Barber Are you been sarcasric or was this actually what it is?
It’s so terrible, that it almost has to be intentionally terrible. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Christopher Barber Please, I need closure on this anecdote.
"School is going well at the moment. I'm not pregnant, but thanks for asking."
Given her taste for picking up older guys at discos, he probably thinks it's a reasonable question. In the film Renton appears to remove a condom after they have sex but there is no mention of one in the book.
Obviously she has his London address but I wonder how Begbie got it - I don't see Renton giving it to him and he seems to be turning his back on his old haunts.
@@kaczynskis5721 It's not that there's no mention of one in the book : Welsh even goes into detail, describing the way fluids exit her parts

Go to France and you can see what happens when you don’t rain in your trade unions.
Margaret Thatcher (PM at the time the film's set) famously said "There's no such thing as society", meaning everyone was at their core, selfish and individualistic.
Here, McGregor's quote is an ironic jab at the idea. While at first he appears to agree, he then admits he could be wrong - that there is a society - and that rather than human beings are not naturally selfish, but simply ignore the truth (that there is a society) by living unnaturally.
@@jimmy2k4o rain in your trade unions?
Best British film of all time: it captured the 1990s perfectly.
It was supposedly set in 1985...
@@runawayplane6166 That's the book. The film seems to be set 5-10 years later (rave culture for eg.)
@@rdor011 I think it was set in the late 80's. There was no Aids epidemic in the 90's.
That would make sense mathematically yes, but it's not the case. The original is supposed to be in the late 80's and the sequel in present day despite only 20 years passing. Danny Boyle has admitted to taking liberties with the timeline.
Also, to further add to the confusion, Danny Boyle wanted the original to have "90's feel" even though it's set in 1988.
Jock Mackay despite the sequel clearly being set in 2016/2017 yet being 20 years after the first film

I don’t know if anyone has ever mentioned this but I really love the colour scheming of this film everything has an overlay of greys and browns evoking both that this a film about smack but also about literal shit and about how disgusting we as a society have become even Marks eating here is revolting this has to be one of the most brutal depictions of humanity I’ve ever seen

Harvey Weinstein was a terrible man, but his company did make some of the best films of the 90’s and 2000’s, and you can’t ignore that fact.

Interesting thing is this describes Irving Welsh himself. He made a living flipping houses/flats in ‘up and coming’ parts of London until he had success publishing his books
I've seen 10 clips by now.....
I might as well just re watch the whole movie

I think Begbie had some sort of respect for Rentboy as he chose to hide out and lay low at his flat.
That or Begbie thought Rentboy was the softest of the bunch.
What do you think?
By that point Renton had fully kicked heroin, which is certainly something Begbie would have highly respected. There's also the line later on, "Begbie didn't trust Spud, and Sick Boy was too careful these days", so he probably also trusted Sick Boy but decided getting out of Scotland was the better idea.
I think it was as far as he could get from Scotland without having his passport checked.

Trainspotting can be relatable to anyone growing up when they have to start managing their own lives. Its hard and life aint fair and rosy. Them being addicts isnt really what the film is about its about being young and immature until you see the real world for the first time and you have to fit into that world or have no life. Its the biggest thing in life when your that age and you have to go do it on your own because personal responsibility is the law, breaking that law u end up poor and alone with a shitty life that society will judge you for forever. The original and the sequel Should be mandatory viewing for teenagers.

@Luke Thomas oh that makes it ok then , two wrongs don't make a right. They invented stealing countries , slavery and genocide long before our countries even existed. Guess we should invade Italy in revenge for the Romans.

I was very apathetic before I met her but she brought so much light into my life , made me run around and do things for her, and most importantly for myself.
