    "You're Not You Anymore" Lyrics
A garden grew between us in the love we lived without. Remaining faithful to the flood, our tears have purpose in a drought. Tread lightly, so footprints can't disturb the bed we've made. With restlessness reserved for both the bodies it contains. Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest. A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness. We dare not mourn our past lives, our loss will be reborn... because I couldn't love who you were, but you're not you anymore. Sew your skeleton to mine, I'm no good on my own. Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone. We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown. So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones. Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double sided knife. If we develop eyes for others, may we both be stripped out of sight. Liken our divide to partitions in the earth. Wrapped in walls of vines, growing out of common ground. A garden grew between us. Our tears have purpose in a drought. Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double sided knife. Taking steps towards each other, we could end both our lives... and that'd be fine.

2 years later and I still shed tears. I remember watching CP live in 2016 and this tall dude was crying next to me in the middle of the moshpit when they played Outlier. Grabbed his hand, low key gay. Held it up high and sang to the lyrics “I am what I am, and I am an outcast!”
Never felt a bro hug so good right after

About 10 months ago I tried to do the most selfish thing and leave this earth with out a trace. During my contemplation heard this song in my head. “Sew your skeleton to mine, I’m no good on my own. Stitch yourself to either side of me, so I’ll never be alone.” And I thought about the people that were most important to me and how my addictions and anxiety is what was killing me. But, these Certain persons helped me keep afloat even though I was sinking deeply. I wasn’t me anymore. So I got up and instead of going through with something so terrible. I put this record on and played it all the way through till I reached YNYA and I just balled my eyes out knowing I’m gonna be okay. I have all the help in front of me but I need to take it! I’m clean and happier then ever but some days are battles for sure but if it wasn’t for Brendan’s words I probably wouldn’t be here right now. Thank you so much Counterparts. My favorite band forever

Sometimes I wonder what people want from this band that keeps them from becoming more noticed. They have a sound that is very distinct, their lyrics consistently reference personal experience and reference other songs and albums they have written. This band is arguably one of the best in the hard/abrasive music scene, but still no love. Then again I guess some of that is just my opinion.

This video, combined to recent events, made me stop smoking weed after 4 years of daily use.
It made me realize that I was actually in the 3rd stage of addiction: abuse. That moment when the character took 3 pills at once and expected another moment of bliss but all he experienced was suffering, powerless, I was literally letting myself drown and stabbed by this women who represents the drugs effect. Now I am one week drug free, it is just the beginning of the fight but this video still gives me hope for the future. Thank you Counterparts for this masterpiece.

    Ringkasan
    Lirik
    Video
    Dengarkan
A garden grew between us in the love we lived without
Remaining faithful to the flood our tears have purpose in a drought
Tread lightly so footprints can't disturb the bed we've made
With restlessness reserved for both the bodies it contains
Arahkan panah tertajammu ke tengah dadaku
Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest
Sebuah peringatan untuk menandakan rasa ketidakberdayaan
A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness
We dare not mourn our past lives our loss will be reborn
Because I couldn't love who you were but you're not you anymore
Jahit kerangkamu ke kerangkaku. Aku tidak bisa melakukannya sendiri
Sew your skeleton to mine I'm no good on my own
Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone
We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown
So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones
Tandai berakhirnya penjelajahan tanpa tujuan dengan pisau dua sisi
Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double-sided knife
If we develop eyes for others may we both be stripped of sight
Ibaratkan kesenjangan kita dengan sekat-sekat di bumi
Liken our divide to partitions in the earth
Wrapped in walls of vines growing out of common ground
Sebuah taman tumbuh di antara kami
    A garden grew between us
Air mata kita memiliki tujuan dalam kekeringan
Our tears have purpose in a drought
Jahit kerangkamu ke kerangkaku. Aku tidak bisa melakukannya sendiri
Sew your skeleton to mine I'm no good on my own
Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone
We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown
So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones
    Tandai berakhirnya penjelajahan tanpa tujuan
Mark an end to aimless roaming
    Dengan pisau dua sisi
    With a double-sided knife
Mengambil langkah menuju satu sama lain
    Taking steps towards each other
Kita bisa mengakhiri hidup kita berdua
We could end both our lives
    (Dan itu akan baik-baik saja)
    (And that'd be fine)
Arahkan panah tertajammu ke tengah dadaku
Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest
Sebuah peringatan untuk menandakan rasa ketidakberdayaan
A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness

Mark an end to aimless roaming
    With a double-sided knife
If we develop eyes for others
May we both be stripped of sight
My favorite line in the whole album

Someone from my past recently killed themselves, someone that wasn't even a good friend of mine at all. Just seeing how it affected so many people instantly, I couldn't help but feel it myself eventually. Man this song captures that feeling, whatever it is.

Okay so someone inform me or correct me: but B and Steph had at one point had a relationship then she cheated on him and blamed her actions on him that is where and what choke is about. B has also stated that he has squashed the beef he had regarding choke and that "Him and Steph are fine now".
YNYA is using the metaphor of drug addiction to convey the physical addiction to a person (Steph) and the lyric of this song discusses the feelings that still exist "We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown" shows love and forgiveness as well as I couldn't love who you were but you're not you anymore. The actions that were taken were abominable however the person (steph or perhaps both) have matured and they're past mistake can be forgiven.

gwillsthewizard yeah pretty much and it looks like you meant to put another song name before “Choke” then i’m assuming you meant “Collapse” with “I would love to love you, if you were someone else” transitioning to YNYA “I couldn’t love who you were, but you’re not you anymore” or did you mean something else?

    • @gwillsthewizard
      @gwillsthewizard 6 років тому +3

harry_sandusky nice catch i didnt even consider collapse. Thats a good tie in that he CAN love her because she is someone new or "not you"!

Ackshully hahaha, being a bit aspy I think I figured that B was singing about Steph in Debris, she wasn't receptive to B at the time but he met Hannah, which is what compass was about. The compass has been cracked from choke is about Hannah cheating on him w/Exalt's frontman Tyler and then blaming B. Solace is about Steph and B's reunion.

    • @HDMRTWDP
      @HDMRTWDP 6 років тому +1

Chad Chen you’re probably right i never really kept track of the girls in B’s life i just assumed debris was something way back from his past and then between TDBHH and Tragedy was when things fell apart and then between Tragedy and YNYA was when it came back together

    • @HDMRTWDP
      @HDMRTWDP 6 років тому +1

Jordan Raley ok i didn’t know about the speeches and i like the theory with solace but that’s what i was thinking with Compass Choke Collapse and YNYA. I never followed him and I didn’t know there was Hannah and Steph. I just knew a little bit of background info and then pieced it together with the lyrics or at least i thought i did idk it’s nothing worth losing sleep over
