- This is a short video I made about the band Steam Powered Giraffe.
I originally made this video for a school project. Chances are, I got some minor stuff incorrect (I'm like 60% sure I pronounced Steve's last name wrong). I'm just a really amateur video-maker-person who loves music. But I'm really proud of how this video turned out!

Duuuuude it's so fuckin cool that her transition was incorporated into the lore as well. Really good idea the storyline too.

It's January 2020, and only last week have I become aware of these beautiful people. I'm so glad for Bunny, and that she was able to "Transform."
Bruh I found the song Mecto Amore on youtube in 2020, im still confused about them.
This video is actually how I found out what happened to Hatchworth. I didn't know he'd left! I'm pretty sad about that... The band just won't be the same without him. :(

I actually thought for a while that walter robotics had existed for real and that their characters were based on real life animatronics

Dude same. I've been saying that forever. Creative differences was the real reason he left. I used to watch them off hangouts, and got the spine to answer me because I wanted to know what happened.
Very good video, i joined around Honeybee but fell off when The Jon left.. so seeing just a huge explosion of history i missed is..melancholic.
Jon didn't just leave due to scheduling. He wasn't exactly forced out either, but there was a lot of negative tension going on. Jon wasn't putting in the effort, he didn't even record a lot of his parts in the 2 cent show. The Spine details this in a reply to a reddit post.
I've heard however that he's happy with his life now, so let's all just celebrate that. Also, I added him on Facebook, and he added me back, but I've never tried to message him. I'm not sure what I'd even say.
This is closer to being correct. Like, the drama was so minimal outside of fan reaction. We talk to the guy still, he's a cool dude, but back when this all happened we were going forward and he wasn't on board. That said, our journey isn't a story easily told. I just remind people there's no bad blood.

right till this vid i thought she played as male for a few years would never of known
I'd been debating listening to her voice - when I was younger and on a small church choir, while I could sing Tenor and Baritone, we had an Alto that would help out our Tenors when we needed depth, and she could get well into Baritone range if necessary ( she was also slender and small framed, go figure). So I'd been trying to puzzle out why the band transitioned between the two ranges/character change - except it was the singer transitioning. :) Love her voice, and the band.

Thanks you so much for this video! I found them 10 years ago but was mostly unaware of how the group came together and changed over time. I definitely want to read the comics now. I find the band extremely intriguing and it's amazing to see such unique and special performances. Also both Bunny's and David's voice range is just awe-inspiring. I wish I lived close enough to see any of their shows. EIther way, I hope that just like them, you keep being amazing and live the best of all lives!

In 2012 Hank Green posted the video of Honeybee on tumblr asking if it was weird in a good way. Later he was able to connect with the band and helped them with their UA-cam presence.

This is awesome! It is very well done and makes it SO much easier to explain the complexities of the band to those who don't know about them. Also, you did say Steve's last name correctly. ;)
I came into their world when Zero had joined. They performed a show for the Steampunk Weekend at Bristol Rennaisance faire that was included in that weekends entry price and I got hooked on that and came back the next year to see them again and I just haven't been able to ditch my addiction and love for their stuff. And, lets be honest, when they did Diamonds by Rihanna at the faire, I lost my ever loving fan shit and that was the tipping point that made me a fan
I'm going to share this video with anyone I need to explain SPG to, in my endeavors to get people hooked on the band. ^_^

A little disappointed that you didn't mention The Quest for he Golden Harp of Eternal Dreams. It's a very fun documentary style movie that the band sell on their website, and have uploaded on UA-cam too.

This comment section is kinda weird. I get missing the old band members and the old songs, but refusing the acknowledge or give the current band and their newer songs a try because of that is messy. It's been like 10 years y'all. Times change, and i've learned that you need to get used to that, cause times changing will NEVER change. Give the current band a try, or move on. It's harsh but it's true. No need to be rude about or ignore the hard work they still put in the band to this day. That's all I wanted to say. Hope y'all have a good day x

I like the older music quite a bit more, but it has nothing to do with the member lineup. I'm pretty sure david and isabella wrote most of the songs back then anyway, so they COULD continue that style now, they just aren't interested/don't wish to (which is fine, I mention it only to point out why the member lineup isn't the issue). They are also clearly very hard working, yes. I like the old I don't know why, it's just melodically catchier I guess? Those songs pop into my head as I walk around and get stuck, new ones don't. Can't really explain why mechanically, I'm not a musician *shrug*

So spines brother was rabbit then tranistioned became his sister and female rabbit came out? This whole time i thought they got rid of the male rabbit but decided to keep the name

I thought the current rabbit was the Davids wife, since the last name was the same. Bennett.
Male Rabbit's design is super cool, but when it comes to the character itself and Rabbit's personality, not a lot has changed lol. Except for the more mechanical glitchy voice Isabella gave Rabbit, which I personally really like. But Female Rabbit's design is really cool too. She went through a BUNCH of looks, including the original bronze look she had for Male Rabbit ;)
@@mrbusinesss1 The glitch is fine on its own, but it doesn't seem to fit the character backstory that well. This is supposed to be the more whole/fixed/correct version, but it is glitchier? Maybe there is an explanation, I didn't read those comics or anything.

I wish I liked any of the music since the transition at all. The old stuff had strong tone but losing the double male lead harmony and all the new characters killed it for me.

Great video! But can someone please tell me if either of these are true or if someone thought the same but, First I thought Zero joined this year like recent this year and if the steam powered giraffes appeared on any talent shows (AGA or something similar)?
They were never on any talent shows
Zero joined at the time stated in the video. Hatchworth and Zero were actually together for a short time, and I’m pretty sure they were both present in one of the podcasts

Cuz, y'know, my issues with him can't have anything to do with how he doesn't mesh well with the other members. They can't have anything to do with how I think his voice doesn't have the spark needed to blend in with masterminds like Rabbit and Spine.
Nah, clearly the singular reason I might have misgivings about his presence in the band can only be that I hate the particular hew of brass he's molded from...
But you still said it anyway...
He is getting better as time goes on. I don't know if his voice was the best choice to compliment the Spine and Rabbit. He is a loveable character though.

He's not a “new guy” anymore, though. Been in the band for well over 4 years now, and makes great music. I get missing the old members, but no need to push away Zer0/Bryan entirely. As the band said before, Bryan's probably gonna be here for the long run

SPG is pretty important to me. Bunny came out as trans around the same time as I learned I was and I thought that was awesome.

@@ataruarchives2428 dude mind blown. I just discovered this band and I was searching for who was rabbit before the female version but then it dawned on me from this video and this comment. In a perfect world I liked the older Rabbit better but cheers to Bunny for what she did. I also would have The Jon as well but sometimes things don't work out. Oh well, heres to many more years for SPG.
This band could’ve been so much more, no offense to the route they took but they had a lot of potential when Jon and rabbit was still around, at least musically
Rabbit is still around. Jon is not, and no offense to him he is cool, but he was also not really the central core of the band that everything hinged on or anything... usually was a support singer who didn't take mime classes and wasn't the lead on any song as far as I know. I'm not sure what glorious jon-based future you're imagining. Personally I did like their older songs more, but those were also mainly written by david and isabella. They're not writing in that style anymore because they just don't want to, I guess, not because thejon left.

I was freaking out cause I saw a chick in rabbit's outfit and I thought they replaced him with a chick and I got mad but then I found out it was the same person and they were just trans. I was... uncomfortable with finding this out but now that I look on it, they're still the same singer so that makes it easier to adjust. I haven't listened to SPG in years so I wasn't caught up

IE: "Everyone, please meet Jessica. You may remember her from school as Steve, he was the class president our senior year. She'll be hosting tonight's reunion so please give her a round of applause!"

Come on content writer... It's 'Brief' not 'Breif' Remember the old primary school rhyme? 'It's "I before E" except after "C" Although that is not always the case 'Reindeer' for example 9/10 the rule applies. In comments ect it really doesn't matter much as no one likes a grammar nazi, but in main titles care really should be taken, as misspelt headings show sloppiness and diminish the following content.
While I agree titles matter, that rhyme is actually pretty useless. It's accurate far less than 9/10 times and it absolutely kills people learning English as a second language.
