    I’ve never seen it done this way, it looks like you have more control of where it splits and it’s much safer if you’re far from any medical assistance.

    Thank you! I own a hatchet and have been doing the top-down technique with freestanding wood pieces but this way is so much better! 👍

    I've been splitting kindling from the side for a long time, but usually just whack it. Easier to miss sometimes, and the kindling tends to fly all over the place. This method looks a lot better. Aim first, then boom.

    Taras, Enjoyed the video but I thought I wouldn't have a use for this technique. Today I was making carrot strips and tried it on the carrot. Works great!!!

    You can do the same by just offering the axe head to the raw end of the log and gently tap the log and axe together downwards.

    taras there is another way, u put the hatchet to the top of log and hold both and hit the log in the wood but just a bit so the hachet is stuck and then u can just swing it (it gives more accuracy f size)
