- A few months ago, my boyfriend and savvy business manager Josh told me that I had an audition to be the face of a new guitar app that was going to be the next big thing in the music world. Little did I know it was an elaborate trick that would end in me playing a composition by one of my biggest guitar influences- in front of him in his own living room.

It makes me sad to think of the pure talent this world was robbed of when Jason came down with ALS.....truly a musical genius. Nita did him proud....she absolutely rips her version of Perpetual Burn. Two shred gods!
it's sad to think of how many live performances of altitudes we were robbed of. instead we have a grand total of fucking zero.
I can imagine Jason getting extremely sad but happy at the same time watching someone playing his music in front of him.

As a metalhead I have known about Jason for years, but since his mucis isnt really my taste I never knew much about him other than that he is a big name amongst guitars. So when I read an interview with him in a Swedish metal magazine I found out what he suffers from and I must say that a guy who can only comunicate with his eyes and still write an album... thats a legend.

it was cool to see someone who can shred in front of 50,000 fans break down like a little kid. Kudos to both Nita and of course Jason and his family.
Jason Becker is a legend and definitely should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

It's adorable how nervous she got when they pulled up to Jason's house because she is so fiercely confident all the time, and that moment of vulnerability showed how important that was for her.
I always underestimated her guitar playing but seeing her play perpetual burn just blew my mind , my apologies, I change my opinion , she is a great guitar player .... Seeing jason becker sitting on that seat always brings tears in my eyes...
This made me tear up. I would have been crying if I was there in person. Been listening to him since 1986 or 1987. What an honor!! At least you can shred like a beast. 💜

I'm so sorry you lost your Dad to this horrible disease. Im sure everyone would second you in wishing there was a cure,hopefully one day. When i see Jason i often think of the star that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
My father died in '99 from a stroke.The pain of missing him will always be with me but it's become something I can deal with. I hope you're okay bro.

Not ashamed to admit, I almost cried!
I've been playing for almost 30 years, and to see JB go from one of the greatest guitar players in the world, to almost vegetative, was/is really sad. Really cool that you got to meet and play for him. Even though he couldn't physically express it, you know he was really happy!

Jason is one of the best guitar players I have ever seen in my life and he seems like such a nice guy. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. Not just for what he has contributed musically to he world but also the absolute rarity of fighting ALS to the point most others would have given up.
Everyone who ever touches a guitar should have at least one Jason Becker piece they choose to learn. It almost instantly makes you a better guitar player.

I tried to learn altitudes
I have tried perpetual burn, altitudes and mabels fatal fable. I cant play any of them through but by simply getting little phrases and key parts I'm getting better. He is a fucking genius and trying to learn anything jason wrote just makes me wanna quit. I started learning serrana and I have decided to just do that over the next few years ahah!
And Jason is still composing and releasing music. He can't play it anymore, of course, but his mind is still as sharp and brilliant as it ever was and he has a lot of musicians who are willing to help him bring his visions to life.

I get emotional too when I see Jason becker vids too. I just think of what might have been and all the great music he would have made that we never got to hear. most of the world doesn't even know what it was deprived of. she is lovely.. and she can play....but this shows she can PLAY..
Not sure if you've heard it but Jason just released an album called "Triumphant Hearts." He still creates music using only his eyes. It's a testament to Jason's genius that a man who can no longer speak, move or breathe on his own is still capable of creating music that's beyond the abilities of so many of us who still can play our guitars.

I opened for my guitar hero (Tony MacAlpine) back in 1997, so I can kinda feel what you went through. It's magical and surreal. I was an insect among gods.

Jason's music always gives me goosebumps but seeing him and his family interact with other guitarists always makes my eyes water a bit. so good to see this, thank you.
Must be so awesome for people to play his music right in the room with him, a feeling of recognition very few musicians ever get to experience.

To the people saying she's lucky: She's not, she worked hard, and most certainly still does.
I couldn't care less about most shred guitar stuff, but Perpetual Burn is such a badass composition; it's like someone revived Paganini from the dead, handed him an electric guitar and a Marshall stack and said "here, make something with this."
In terms of complex harmony and melody it gets so much closer to the spirit of classical virtuoso style composition than Yngwie ever did.
primeDecomposition I find Yngwie has a style that is more of Vivaldi and Bach than Paganini. Where as Jason is more technically proficient and really terrifies you with his playing like Paganini did.

Interesting thought. I love the music of Jason Becker and Malmsteen. In fact, I think Malmsteen's Rising Force and Perpetual Burn are the reference for neoclassical virtuoso guitar music. However, I think "Far beyond the sun" is completely comparable to the song "Perpetual burn" and both remind of Paganini. I really don't want to get into comparing Jason and Yngwie because both are so talented and gifted that doesn't make sense. At that level you just can't say one is better that the other. We also have to remember that Yngwie was a big influence on Jason. Those arpeggios and fast scales maybe where inspired by Malmsteen :)
you`re rigth.. is really far beyond your normal shred composition... its even far beyond ... far beyod the sun lol.. which is an amazing composition... it is of the caliber of a master composer from the times of old... like you just said... Its a shame that Jason almost never mentions how he composed that ... it sees he probably doesnt realize how brutal that song is. and Im not event talking technically but as work of art

I hate seeing him like this!! All those guitars hanging on the wall and his amazing skills wasted because of that fucking disease. I can't even imagine what his thoughts might be while looking at people in front of him, playing his songs and holding a guitar on their laps. I'm sure he tells himself, "damn, i wanna do that again!!" Sorry if my english is a mess, but i really wanted to express what i feel.

Billy C. I heard an interview he did about what it was like before he had ALS and it was very depressing, he said people would get angry and be rude to him because he could barely stand up, because the disease was progressing
Life is unfair. How great he was when this came on, and how much greater he would've been (as a player) if he didn't have ALS.

I'm 49, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman were my idols when I was growing up. My step daughter has ALS, although here in the UK we call it MND Motor Neurone Disease. What a beautiful thing for Jason to invite this lovely couple into his home. This ladies playing was spot on.
I come back & watch this every few months. What a joy.
This video almost made me shed a tear, just to know that Jason watches others doing something he can't anymore.

+CyberLeaf Unfortunately, ALS doesn't usually let people stick around very long. He's already lived 3-4 times longer than most with the diagnosis.
+niptodstan After you lived with it soon 20 years you pritty much compensate with your condition and don't even think about stuff like that. He seemed rather joyful that someone plays and appreciate his music.
We could never understand the frustration of your body not doing what the mind what's it to. He truly is a far better man than me, because I'd probably try wheel myself off a cliff. He is a special person, and I hope one day nanotechnology is advanced enough so no-one would have to suffer such tragic diseases.
I would be happy that a chick like her came to visit.

There are no words I can say to accurately justify how awesome and inspiring this video is, I saw Nita Strauss with Alice Cooper in 2016 I managed to move up to the front row due to a very kind security guard, I absolutely lost my mind in the entire show Nita kept looking back at me smiling and at the end of the show before we had to leave Nita gave me a hug absolutely one of the best nights of my life I played it cool and waited until she left before I cried I could barely contain how happy I was at that point someone I look up to took the time to notice me that feeling is absolutely indescribable thank you, Nita as far as Jason Becker he has shown me you can still make music no matter what happens, and I have nothing but respect and love for him as well as Nita Strauss. 💚😊stay safe, everyone, and happy new year. \m/
Jason is such an inspiration, his attitude is just so awesome, never bitter or angry or as it seems anyways so glad fellow players haven't forgotten home and can bring his music to life.
Coming back and watching this years later and seeing her growth from then til now is amazing, but to know that she was well on her way in making her mark and still questioned herself, it’s humbling. Love how there’s the cuts back to her shredding effortlessly after you hear the doubt in her voice..ah hell, I said I wouldn’t cry before I wrote this…such a feel-good moment

Two great guitarist every time someone mentions greatest guitar players I never forget Jason Becker.Greg Howe played Guitar Center one time and told everybody the story of how he roomed with Jason and said he stayed up all night playing this classical piece.There are a lot of great Jason Becker songs my favorite is Little Ain't Enough with David Lee Roth .Always great to see Jason hanging in there he is such an inspiration as a human being and guitar player. Nita is spot on with her cover happy for you that you had the chance to meet him.

That was awesome. How Jason has managed to hang in there for as long as he has is nothing short of a miracle. I was first introduced to Jason's music when he played lead guitar on David Lee Roth's A Little Ain't Enough album. He's an inspiration to anybody who wants to advance their guitar skills to the next level. God bless him and his amazing legacy of music.

I think it is so cool David Lee Roth did so much for him when he first became ill. He never talked about it, didnt brag, just helped him with no need for media or praise.

Great that you got to meet Jason! Truly a memory to cherish forever. Richmond CA was a minor hotbed of metal talent in that time. My friend Tony Evans was born & raised there too, sadly passed away before his talents were really discovered. We were SO HAPPY when Jason was recognized as the huge talent he is. First off, I’m geeking out just as much as she did. Secondly, Jason Becker has taught me a HUGE lesson: Make the biggest positive influence you can with the time you have because you have no idea will come at you and derail all of you plans. It may not be ALS or something like that, but you never know... so always be doing good, always be the best influence you can be.

Maybe in order to overcome an illness as powerful as ALS, one has to be even more powerful themself... Frustration, when channeled properly, can become motivation.
He isn't frustrated because he is still making music and the gods of guitar will happily play his work and do it with pride

Let's be real. Meeting someone with such an advanced stage of a debilitating condition as ALS for the first time must be very uncomfortable. Then trying to perform in that mindset is a whole other layer of discomfort and pressure. Nita did a great job and I'm sure Jason was all the more flattered that he was still influencing other guitarists. Such a cool video.

+Dennis T. That system is one he came up with with his parents. They read the only part of his body he can still control, his eyes, and using the method they devise, it's how he communicates everything.
There's no other interface that could use.
doesn't Steven Hawking kinda do the same thing? he uses a computer with his eye movements...
+Dennis T. - No, actually he moves a mouse pointer with his cheek muscle, if you Google pics of him, you'll see it hanging from his glasses, it's this light scanner that reads his cheek muscle moving . For some reason they can't do it with the eye, but they said now his cheek muscle is going as well as his eye movements which means he will be completely locked in, meaning no way to communicate so right now they are trying to devise ways to read his brain signal which I think they've had some success with.
ooh, man...this is sad. they still should find a way to make a computer speak for him though
