There were Thergothon,Skepticism,Unholy,Rippikoulu,Unburied in the early nineties but they were more or less Death/doom,Funeral doom stuff. And Unholy with it's obscure avantgarde stuff. Spiritus Mortis was the first traditional doom band yes,I was wrong about that but Reverend's "In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend" was the first traditional doom album.
Well. It really isn't a shame, since many seem to consider Reverend Bizarre as one of the best Doom bands of all existence. Atleast the songs I've heard ,have yet failed to fail me.
@ConvokedDemon I agree. Their earlier Gore metal was really some of the best of it's genre I've ever heard. Their interphase album DGOD was also very enjoyable. On the second album, however, the band had somewhat lost it's touch. It was too far from both of the genres ( Death and Doom ), and wasn't really a worthwhile mix of them.
Was RB really the first trad band in Finland ? Finland kind of rushed to the obscurities without stopping there at all. I could have sworn, that atleast Spiritus Mortis was/ is making some kind of trad doom.
Gothic is pretty close to this.
Yes a fine Doom/Death band.
What's interesting is that Reverend Bizarre was Finland's first trad. doom band.
