I met Bill Wallace twice in the 1980s , he is an accomplished wrestler and a judo player. When he was young, he was frighteningly musclebound and could kick close to 60 mph. I saw it with my own eyes. He was no joke.
Give the man some we earned respect. He was a hell’ve a fighter in his day. Martial artist are just simply building on his technique. I was always taught the goal of a good sensei was to give the student good solid technique and help them build on it so some day the student becomes the sensei. He was a hero to a lot of budding martial artists and got many people to put on a gi and start training.
I went to one of his seminars in Brisbane Australia back in 1981. He kicked me around a bit and was such a funny guy. It is good to see him still joking around and kicking. What a legend!
I attended one of his seminars in 2005 in Austin, TX. He uses his left leg like a boxer uses his left jab. High, belly, high; high, high, belly; and any other combination thereof. I asked him who the best boxer he ever faced was, and I’d forgotten he and Thomas Hearns’s exhibition fight. He said they made a deal not to try and knock each other out, but Hearns came out, got him in a corner, and started machine-gunning him with punches. He weathered that storm and, as Hearns stepped back, he said he threw that left leg with a little “authority” and spun Hearns’s head gear around. Having impressed Hearns, they played nice afterwards.
@shane youngblood i guarantee you all three you mentioned got there kicks from teakwon do. Bit they just won't give where credit is due especially Bill, Chuck can't kick worth a dam any way, and Bruce always gave credit to Tkd for the best kicks of all the disciplines, hence he's book on the best effective fighting styles and this was long after his meetings with Chuck. The book deetkundo the do part for teakwondo.
I met him probably 20 years ago at a week-long conference he participated in. He was a very nice and generous guy and willing to share his knowledge and perspectives on things.
Bill Wallace wrestled in college, got a black belt in judo after college, got a black belt in karate after that and won titles in point karate for years. He could have exited as a legend at that point, but he went into full contact karate when he was arguably past his prime, at least in terms of speed. He had a couple of close fights but retired undefeated in full contact. As far as what a boxer would have done to him, he sparred with Thomas Hearns and all the articles indicate that he landed some kicks without getting tagged too often. While video of that seems lost forever, Bill’s boxing skills look great in an exhibition match against Roop, one of the men to beat Joe Lewis at the end of his career.
I wrestled with Bill in college, it was at the intramural level but a bunch of very good former high school wrestlers, state champs, regional champs! He was extremely quick on his feet, we worked out together, he 165, me 191! He was also my first sensi, he was an exceptional athlete! My term paper for my kinesiology class was his side kick, on film! He was a good guy! Have a great day!
@@michaeljunod8610 Wow! Thanks for that! I used to read about him and Joe Lewis. Never met Wallace but paid for a seminar with Lewis. We were fortunate to get hands on training from such legends!
At the seminar, Mr. Wallace said he mangled his right leg wrestling. That’s why all his techniques are with his left leg. Even knowing this, his kicks are too quick to always block. I’m a one-legged fighter too, having mangled my left knee in football. People would tell me, “Look at Bill Wallace. He’s a one-legged fighter too, and is king of the ring”. My response was, and is, “Yeah, and he was a two-time All American wrestler. He is possessed of incredible strength and endurance, and he’s blessed with blazing speed. So, that’s not a fair comparison”.
@@jimjustice581 Hi Jim! Bill was a gifted athlete no doubt but I don't recall him being a 2x All American Wrestler! I knew Bill during my college years and honestly to the best of my recollection he just wrestled intramurals at BSU! I wrestled intramurals for four years I believe Bill wrestled just one year in the intramural program! Karate was his thing not wrestling! If you find out otherwise please let me know! Take care!
I so bad wish he could have been my Sensei decades ago. There wasn't internet around when I was karate fighting. We just walked into tournaments and fought opponents that we knew absolutely nothing about, unlike today in the "MMA" world.
I don’t agree with you. He is using tried and true techniques. Even today at his advanced age, he is a formidable opponent. Would probably kick butt of guys half his age.
@@fitofight8540 you never saw any of his fights though he was using the same technique to most of kickers he faught he's not a well known kick boxer for nothing
Go out and actually train something and you would not even make such an ignorant statement. You punch or you kick. That's it. It's the variations and combinations and knowing how to set things up where the real skill lies, not in memorizing 1000 new techniques. Most UFC and boxing Champs have 5 to 10 go to techniques max. Martial arts that teach you 1000 techniques are in it for the money...they dole out a few techniques a month and make you take a ridiculous amount of tests as an excuse to charge a "testing fee" which js a rip off.
❤️ Watching Bill Wallace; long time ago ; legendary Bill Wallace had an exhibition with boxing legend Tommy hearn;; nothing happened: just working out together
My daughters and I started Tykwondo once and I was really impressed at the kicking skills that were taught. And at a couple of tournaments the head kicks were sensational. Very effective.
I’ve experienced many of Bill’s seminars and he’s one of the best salesman in martial arts, which is very important when you are an instructor and teaching seminars. This is how you keep your audience engaged. Now having said that, you can take a few things from what he is is teaching and apply it to your foundation but his style is not a good foundation for modern point Karate, Tae Kwon do, or Kickboxing. I have no doubt with Bill’s genetics and work ethic he would of been a star in modern times. The sports have evolved and most of his techniques are now outdated and don’t work effectively at a high level of competition. This is not a knock against Bill I’m just pointing out that these techniques are old school and if you try to apply them against world class fighters you will get annihilated. I’ve been competing in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Kickboxing for 20 years and have four world championship titles so I think I’m qualified to give my perspective. Great guy, amazing athlete, techniques are outdated. IMO ✌️
His strength isn't just his speed, but the fact he can throw multiple kicks at different levels without setting his leg down. I don't see fighters doing that and it was very effective for him. It can keep your opponent off guard and off balance. He can't counter when you are kicking multiple times in a row without setting his leg down. That might be why he was undefeated as world champion. Plus, his punches were very strong. For modern MMA, he'd need BJJ training, but with his judo background, that would come natural.
I've used this move he is demonstrating in real fights and it works. I used my right hand to lead but he does it with the left which gives better balance.
One, two and same goes for you! That Wallace hand comes down way too low! Everything works when you demonstrate! Wallace is indeed a legend and always had great speed and skill!
I would love to see how he would do in his prime in MMA today because there's nobody like him. There's nobody in MMA that can kick you in the head like this guy. People don't train that exclusively anymore to develop that kind of technique but He's a real fighter and was pretty much unbeatable in the ring. If superfoot learned BJJ technique. He would have been a UFC champ, I am sure of it. Watch his old fights.
Be careful not to trap the knee or one wi be a right foot or a left xoot fighter. Hi Bill, I never got to meet you when you li ed about an hour from Scottzburg, Indiana. I a right foot as left knee is ruined. However, my i jury was getting hit by an SUV. Never stopped to help. Was a Butler University driver. Deniex responsibility
Great technique. But by all do respect. I was a WTF taekwondo fighter. We don't punch a lot. So after my last taekwondo fight 2008. I started kick boxing and muaythai. They don't block jabs like that. Kick boxer they parry or slip the jab while countering. And I don't know what their counter will be. It can be punches, knees, or kicks. And with the Thai fighters they block a jab with left elbow. I can do that sidekick technique with muaythai fighters. But the are very strong fighters. They conditioned their entire body with kicks n punches from all the guys train in the gym. It's crazy. I've been to Thailand. Train with the Thai. And I get knocked down taking hooks at the abs area while we are doing conditioning. I did this technique while I spar with one of the Thai fighter he took my sidekick smiling. WTF. I thought I kick hard. I knocked view people down with that sidekick in taekwondo match. They wear body protectors. But when you do that sidekick to a active Thai fighters it doesn't work. Yes I know we WTF taekwondo fighters didn't do conditioning. Specially for the abs area and legs. We don't kick legs. And when I get my 1 st conditioning training in Thailand i almost couldn't wake up the next morning. No intention of discrediting taekwondo cus i still love taekwondo but when you're fighting a different kind of styles you have to adapt to that style. I'm sorry I hope nobody get offended but this is my experience

Bill "slewfoot" Wallace . 60mph foot. He was there with all the names you know. Well respected .
