Awesome series. This video helped me to find the medicinal trees series, which is great. I've been studying up on local trees here in North Georgia lately, and I'm grateful for you guys at Pathfinder for sharing your wealth of knowledge. It's nice to have such a good resource for a similar environment. Keep it up.
"Live from Ohio, it's the Yurt Show with Dave Canterbury! Tonight's guest, Pathfinder Instructor Jeremy Janey..." Dave, love it, all you need now is a house band.
Holy crapp... it is the dude from Dual survivla, These videos are awesome just started watching them, i live in Tennessee and go for extended camping trips... It is my favorite thing to do.. that and hunt...
Ah. There is the Monster. I was wondering when that would show. It was good to see Jeremy, my classmate from the Sept 2010 Basics class. Good to see he is now one of your instructors. If I was in Ohio, I would hope to be one too.
I wore a pair of icebreaker longjohns when I was homeless for about 6months washing them inly a few times and they barely got stinky and stayed in great shape. they are not cheap but are well worth every penny
Dave, love how you mix it up with the different types of videos you post every day. Videos like this where you're just shooting the shit are great too, feel like I'm there with you guys. Going to go back to my cup of hot chocolate and rewatch some older videos. Keep it up, bro!
You are so awesome man! You make awesome videos. Really informative and entertaining. I can tell from watching that your really capable and an awesome teacher. And a good guy in general. Thanks a lot for the videos - keep 'em coming!
Not only is Chaga great for catching a spark, extending an ember and making a medicinal tea it can also be used to cauterize a wound, as an incense to remove an odor and ease a headache.
Huge fan of your stuff dave! been watching you before you went big on discovery and its been awesome watching you the whole time! I live about an hour away from chillicothe, been considering going to path finder school.
Dave regarding the Chaga, you would quite appreciate the forests further north and east...I play in the hills of western Massachusetts and it's the perfect hybrid of your eastern deciduous blending into the northern boreal...the resources from both types of forest are plentiful..and there is just so much wild food plant and animal
I heard you were talking about polypros in the begining of the video and was just wondering how the military versions compare to wool. Your videos are great and very educational and good luck with the discovery thing and your future endevors.
Last time I was in a hammock a crow landed on it and woke me up with it's call.. It was friggin' loud as heck! Hope you catch them, that will go good with the squirrel for sure.
I just about crapped myself when you pulled out that piece of chaga seeing how I just sent you an PM asking about it. I found some here at mt. Tom in holyoke ,MA. Boiled up some pieces and filled a picture . I have a cup or two a day heated up like tea mixed with honey and man oh man like you'de say a drink fit for a king.
The more I learn about it the more I think of the movie avatar in the sense of how the indiginous people were so connected to the trees and how the parallels of art and real life are sometimes one and the same if that makes any sense.
ive been wonerdering, i was watching an older video the other day and it was when you and a lady from american yurts first set up the yurt and how did you make a stove jack in the roof of the yurt because isnt it just a circular hole ? thanks again dave. i love watching all of your videos.
This is my favorite one yet. Would have loved to have been right there drink'n some hot chocolate and chat'n with you guys. Thanks for this window into your lives.
Chaga is one of the MOST useful mushroom fungi there are. Make a medicinal tea from it first then dry it out again and carry it as tinder to start a fire, use as an incense that keeps the flying vampires away (biting bugs) and the boiled then dried powder can be used to stop bleeding... It grows on white and yellow birch trees. The first time I went looking for it I found one chunk that weighed more than a pound in less than 15 minutes, but that was in Maine.
Hay Dave that chaga can be ground up and a tea made from it thas a lot like unsweetend coco. Supposed to be good for you too. Damn sure needed suger when we drank it!
I'm also interested in Nessmuk's bug dope. I was going to try it this summer, but it'll have to wait until next year (possibly pending a pathfinder review).
Boiled it fOr about 4 hours pieces were broken up from one the size of a soft ball. Some leave the black outside layer on for a less tart flavor ( which the honey kills) and some boil it without it. But from what I've learned the outer black layer is the best part much like an apples skin .
Just a quick question unrelated to this video, I was wondering if you could show how you would keep meat and killed game or fish while on a long term camp?
For the medicinal qualities of Chaga check out Daniel Vitalis's vids...David Wolfe also did a book on Chaga...I"m sure you'll appreciate his (Wolfe's)raw vegan ways.LOL..Chaga is off the chart in terms of Antioxidants the highest ORAC value in Nature...Chaga is 36,557 on the ORAC scale whereas Blueberries are for comparison 24.5...Tastes' kinda like Coffee. Supposed to be very good anti-cancer and protects against radiation issues.
Dave correct me if you think I´m wrong, but once the critical survival situation, is not so critical anymore, Boredom is the main threat, so its nice to have friends.
Don't know how you processed you walnuts for dye, but those hulls the squirrel left always worked best for trap dye. The blacker they get the darker the dye......just my 2 cents worth.
Exactly. If he's talking about Dual Survival with Cody, I can understand why Dave would get a little miffed at Cody, because Cody could be stubborn and want to do things his way. The show wasn't called Single Survival. I still don't get Cody's logic on going barefoot everywhere, all the time. Especially in any kind of snake/scorpion country. Hell, for cold weather, for that matter. You lose body heat through your extremities, and bare feet is one of the quickest ways to lose that heat.
If a man does not have a dream to live in the wilderness, than he is not a man! Dave me lad! i love your vids! Dont stop! The world need to lern these things. Btw? Have you ever tanned fish skin? I do and i work alot with leather and skin. Check out some of my pix an you will se som pices of armour iv done. I have 3 sons and i will teach them all about wilderness survival, just as my father did to me!
Good luck ''blasting'' a CROW Dave. Not the easiest bird to hunt it's said they remember people on sight and know just want guns look like. Being that I'm three quarters Crow American indian My ancestors had great respect for the Crow as they did their land, but also feared it as it was the ''bringer of death'' I enjoy your show, build a log cabin, that would be fun to see
Dave... you are the best at what you do. Your teaching abilities are outstanding. I learn something useful in every single video of yours.

Chaga can be grated into a dust and used to make one of the highest antioxidant teas available.

Yet Another Great Informational Video..
Awesome video!
i love all of your videos
2 good ol' boys livin it up! Good times
I heard you were talking about polypros in the begining of the video and was just wondering how the military versions compare to wool. Your videos are great and very educational and good luck with the discovery thing and your future endevors.
Alpaca wool is the best! I've mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again! Alpaca wool is my favourite material! It's warm, dry, and comfortable!
Last time I was in a hammock a crow landed on it and woke me up with it's call.. It was friggin' loud as heck! Hope you catch them, that will go good with the squirrel for sure.
this is a great vid, just listening to you guys chat is cool, more vids like this

This is a cool video... Just sitting back hanging out man... I like the "eat crow" pun at the end...
Love the Song in the beginning
i gotta come visit this yurt it looks sweet...
This is my favorite one yet. Would have loved to have been right there drink'n some hot chocolate and chat'n with you guys. Thanks for this window into your lives.

That is what this is all about, Enjoying life.
Did I hear MERINO ???
Finally, I've asked about Merino like a gazillion times on the web. I love Merino, better than plain wool I think.
Hey Dave was he talking about catching some Allegheny Woodrats or some other type of woodrats?
i wanna see that nessmuk insect repellent! ive always wanted to try it myself but never had all the materials. You should definitely do a video on it
I saw a video on chaga the other day, and the gentleman spoke about the medicinal powers of the chaga smoke. Anyone else know about this?
almost felt like cracking a beer and joining in on that one.
great video what brand was your cardigan in the beginning of the video
Really have been interested in nessmuks repellant hopefully I am down there when that gets broke out

"ca caw ca caw" -Jermey

Thanks.
Dave eatin' crow? That would be a feature event!
I think he called the "space blanket" once in an older video, but don't quote me on that.
that chaga is great for making tea and the it is wicked for the body!!! health benefits wise

Thumbs up if you have watched every "Journal of the Yurt" episode.
I see a dutch oven cooking show in the future if you get that squirel. Hahaha, yumm, squirel and biscuits served with cat tail root.
Dave correct me if you think I´m wrong, but once the critical survival situation, is not so critical anymore, Boredom is the main threat, so its nice to have friends.
You catch that squirrel how about a video on Yurt Cooking!!??
Why would someone dislike this?!
Probably just me, but the U.S. on the wall blanket being upside down bugs me. I know it is easily overlooked, just caught me eye.
Don't know how you processed you walnuts for dye, but those hulls the squirrel left always worked best for trap dye. The blacker they get the darker the dye......just my 2 cents worth.
Mlitary medical corps officers use the oak leaf as their emblem as well
would you eat the crow if you shot it? or just so its quiet in the morning?
first comment, just wanna say... DAVE YOUR THE MAN!!!
How do you keep the bugs and mice out of your Yurt?
does that include all oaks?
Just 2 guys hanging out in a yurt, talking about underwear...hahaha
With your vast amount of survival knowledge, you can teach Bear Grylls a thing or two..

You need something a lot faster than a shotgun on them crows like a .243 get them from a distance
